Paramount Global said it would bake a new suite of data into all ad deals “at no additional cost” that examines whether a commercial spurred a consumer to take a particular action, a measure known as “attribution” that is gaining new sway on Madison Avenue as marketers struggle to determine the effectiveness of their paid media pitches.
Paramount said it would offer data from both Mastercard and Edo, a start-up founded in part by actor Ed Norton, that will help clients examine “outcomes,” such as a visit to a marketer’s web site or showroom, or a consumer search for a product being advertised. The company unveils the offer with just days to go before the start of the industry’s annual “upfront” market, when U.S. TV networks try to sell the bulk fo their commercial inventory ahead of their next cycles of programming.

Although recent years have witnessed fewer performances from Edward Norton, it is safe to say that fans do miss him. Norton has a reputation for being particularly intense on film sets, however, when he does, people are sure something great is going to come out on the other side. American History X was one such movie! His co-star in the movie, Edward Furlong, recently revealed what it was like working with such an actor.
Edward Norton as Bruce Banner in a still from The Incredible Hulk
Edward Norton’s Acting Process on the Set of American History X
Edward Norton‘s reputation for maintaining a no-nonsense attitude on set is well-known, yet it’s fascinating how his seriousness seamlessly aligned with the demands of American History X. The film required a gritty and intense portrayal, which Norton undoubtedly delivered flawlessly.

Nearly every commercial that runs on TV is backed by a guarantee of how big an audience will watch it. Late last year, Fox and Netflix decided to throw out that rule, one of the oldest in media economics.
In November, Fox ran a two-minute-long segment during its Sunday-afternoon NFL showcase — one of the most-watched programs on TV. After one of Fox’s announcers told the audience to stay tuned for a special segment, viewers saw former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman having a conversation with film director Zack Snyder. With the help of augmented reality technology, the filmmaker quickly ushered the athlete into the world of “Rebel Moon,” the sci-fi epic Snyder wrote and directed that was released on Netflix late last year.
What audiences weren’t told is that the vignette was an experiment of sorts conducted by Netflix and its media buying agency, Interpublic Group’s Mediahub,...

Prices for TV commercials have long been determined based on how many people were expected to see them. But A+E Networks is trying to advance a different kind of vision.
The TV company, a joint venture of Disney and Hearst, is introducing a new research effort that aims to show sponsors how many actions their commercials spur consumers to take. After all, whether someone sees an ad may be less important, ultimately, than whether someone is prompted by the pitch to visit a car showroom, surf for more information online, or buys a ticket to see a movie. All this comes as advertisers have begun working more intently to demonstrate a connection from showing a commercial to affecting a particular “business outcome.”

Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are on board, and signs are that the MCU may give the superheroes the film they deserve
There is an argument that Marvel would never have flourished in quite the same way had the studio not got its casting right from (almost) the very beginning. While Ed Norton never seemed the right fit as Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk in 2008, it was the signing of Robert Downey Jr in the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man that inspired the newly Disney-owned outfit to embark on a decade-long run of smartly interconnected, far-out superhero epics that redefined the genre. Marvel made the careers of the previously little-known Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Chris Evans (Captain America), re-appropriated high-end TV talent in the shape of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and turned heroes of indie cinema such as Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and...

Mavis Leno, who married Jay Leno in 1980, has been in the news this week. The 73-year-old talk show host, Jay Leno, filed legal documents to become conservator over his wife’s estate, citing an Alzheimer’s Disease diagnosis as the reason. The couple’s longstanding marriage has been a Hollywood success story, but their love story is hardly traditional. Mavis Leno insisted she never wanted to get married and entered her relationship with Leno in the 1970s without an agenda. She didn’t want to have children, either, and she never did. The Honeymooners inspired that decision.
Mavis Leno once revealed that ‘The Honeymooners’ inspired her decision not to have children
Mavis and Jay Leno do not have any children. It seems the couple made that decision together, but Mavis Leno’s mind was made up long before she met her now husband at The Comedy Store. In fact, she...

Have you ever wondered what the cast of classic TV shows made? While they certainly didn’t earn what current-day stars are earning, plenty of big contracts floated around during the golden age of television. The cast of The Honeymooners was paid pretty well when all things are considered, but there were some pretty big salary discrepancies on the set. So, how much are they making, and what would that look like in today’s money?
Jackie Gleason made the most out of the cast, followed by Art Carney
Jackie Gleason, the famed actor best known for portraying Ralph Kramden on The Honeymooners, was the creative mastermind behind the series. Because he came onto the show as the resident creative with the name recognition to draw a crowd, he understandably made much more than anyone else. According to several sources, Jackie Gleason’s CBS contract was worth $11 million, but that wasn’t his money,...

Joyce Randolph, who played Trixie Norton on the television classic The Honeymooners, died Saturday at her home in New York City, according to multiple reports. She was in hospice care at the time of her death, which was from natural causes.
Randolph played the wife of sewer worker Ed Norton, played by Art Carney. The couple were the best friends and neighbors of Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason), and Alice Kramden (Audrey Meadows).
Randolph was tabbed for the role after Gleason saw her on a chewing gum commercial.
Trixie was married to a sewer worker, and I guess she considered herself a little better than the character of Ed Norton,” Randolph said in a 1999 interview with the Television Academy Foundation. “But she was just a housewife — she and Alice didn’t have jobs. They stayed home all the time, which was kind of amazing, but the husbands didn’t want them to work.

Randolph, the last surviving member of the famous foursome that also included the stars Jackie Gleason (as Brooklyn bus driver Ralph Kramden) and Audrey Meadows (as Ralph’s level-headed wife, Alice), died Saturday at her home in New York, her son, Randy, told TMZ.
Gleason spotted Randolph doing a commercial for Clorets and hired her to play Trixie on his DuMont network variety show Cavalcade of Stars, which premiered in 1951 and featured the Kramdens and the Nortons — neighbors in a rundown Bensonhurst apartment building — in a recurring skit.

The 2010 San Diego Comic-Con was not the biggest gathering in the event's history, but in terms of its importance as a movie marketing event, this was the freakin' year. The gargantuan, hangar-sized Hall H, christened in 2004 as the home for star-studded studio panels, was packed on both peak days as major stars and filmmakers shilled the next two years' most anticipated genre titles. Friday was all about "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which, with all its major stars present, turned into a shriek-filled presentation as deafening as The Beatles' 1964 appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
And then there was Saturday.
Warner Bros. kicked off the Hall H festivities with a buzzy panel that could've matched the "Twilight" delirium had the main Harry Potter trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint showed up for the "Deathly Hallows: Part I" preview. The day threatened to descend into chaos when a...

It's probably the fault of closed-minded, conservative propaganda that the idea of subversiveness within art received a bad reputation. Just as all art is political, all art is (or at least can be) a little subversive. Certainly the dictionary definition of the term, where a work of art intends to undermine the power and/or authority of an established idea, system or value, is heavily akin to the way plot structure tends to be broken down within plays and screenplays: a period of Stasis being interrupted by an Intrusion or Inciting Action, and so on.
Given how weird a number of people are when it comes to the behavior and attitudes toward the Christmas holiday, it's no real surprise that any art having to do with Christmas tends toward subversion. This can manifest in tangential ways (like the slapstick violence of the "Home Alone" series) or direct ways (Santa Claus...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe set an ignominious record at the box office as its latest film The Marvels debuted with $47 million, the lowest-opening weekend in the history of the MCU.

As Woody Harrelson's character, Marty Hart, frequently observes in "True Detective" season 1, Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) is a weird dude. Try to make polite small talk about what he thinks of his new detective posting and he's more likely to say something like "It's all one ghetto, man. A giant gutter in outer space" than "It's very nice, thank you for asking."
Finding an actor who can play a hard-bitten detective, a grieving father, an alcoholic who wanders on and off the wagon, and a free-wheeling nihilistic philosopher — all in one character — isn't easy. Not everyone can deliver lines like "Death created time to grow the things that it would kill" with a straight face. And "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto had a very specific type of actor in mind for the character of Rust, not just in terms of style but in terms of physicality as well.

Anderson’s distinct visual and narrative style is apparent more than ever in his newest project, spawning dozens of new collector’s items inspired by his most beloved films — from “The Grand Budapest Hotel” to the “The Royal Tenenbaums.

A man’s body was found today in a 55-gallon drum on the beach in Malibu, and an investigation is underway.
Authorities went to the 23200 block of Pacific Coast Highway about 10:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. That 23200 Pch address is directly adjacent to the lagoon that sometimes feeds into the water at Surfrider beach north of the pier.
A sheriff’s department official told reporters at the scene the drum had been seen in the water at Malibu Lagoon State Beach on Sunday night by sanitation workers, but they were unable to retrieve it. A lifeguard spotted the same barrel Monday morning and was able to bring it to shore, then opened it and saw the body inside.
Longtime local resident, realtor and advocate for the restoration of the Malibu Lagoon, Andy Lyon, posted a photo to social media which was shared by others online.

Abramorama has acquired North American distribution rights to “Uncharitable,” a documentary about the roles that charities and non-profits play in society. The indie distributor will open the film on Sept. 22 in New York at Angelika’s Village East and Sept. 29 in Los Angeles at Laemmle’s Royale before beginning its North American rollout.
“Uncharitable” was directed and produced by Stephen Gyllenhaal, the director of “Waterland” and “Dangerous Woman.” It features the humanitarian activist Dan Pallotta, whose Ted Talk “The Way We Think About Charity is Dead Wrong” was viewed more than 17 million times and has inspired conversations about how charities can be more effective and how we can support them.
An opportunity to address our own bias and overhaul the way we think about charities, the film expands the conversation including interviews with Scott Harrison (Charity Water), Dorri McWhorter (President and CEO Ymca of Chicago, Advisor First Women’s Bank), Steve Nardizzi,...

Paul Schrader might not have seen the memes, but the Oscar winner is calling “Asteroid City” the most Wes Anderson film ever.
The “Master Gardener” director took to Facebook to praise Anderson’s “Asteroid City,” comparing it to Alain Resnais’ surreal 1961 French New Wave classic “Last Year at Marienbad.”
“The most Wes Anderson film Wes Anderson has made. And for that reason, the best,” Schrader wrote of “Asteroid City,” now in theaters. “He has distilled his design-driven anti-empathy film style to its essence. It’s hard to find a comparable film. The one that comes to mind is ‘Last Year at Marienbad.'”
Schrader added, “I’m heartened that it opened so well, though not quite sure why.”
Fellow auteur Guillermo del Toro similarly took to Twitter to express his admiration for Anderson’s vision.
“Unique signature – What started as an Ashby-esque rhythm and a Demy-esque image design mix, has evolved,...

Paris-based auteur Wes Anderson filmed his sci-fi comedy “Asteroid City” in Spain during the pandemic in 2021, but it embraced a 1955 American milieu. The well-reviewed movie offers Anderson’s usual sprawling ensemble — Scarlett Johansson, Jason Schwartzman, Bryan Cranston, Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Margot Robbie, Tilda Swinton, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, and more — but it’s not the actors who will pop up with Oscar nominations. No one gets enough individual screen time.
Like Anderson’s most-lauded “The Grand Budapest Hotel”, “Asteroid City” will likely clean up with the crafts, and possibly, like “Moonrise Kingdom”, also nab a nod for Original Screenplay.
Written by Anderson and long-time screenwriting partner Roman Coppola, “Asteroid City” stars Schwartzman as avuncular writer Augie Steenbeck, typewriter and pipe in tow. He is bringing his whiz-kid scientist son Woodrow (“Eighth Grade” standout Jake Ryan) and three daughters to the Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention in the New Mexico desert,...

The release of Wes Anderson’s latest movie is just a few weeks away, and Focus Features have released a trio of Asteroid City character posters. They feature Tom Hanks (making his Wes Anderson movie debut), Scarlett Johansson, and Jason Schwartzman.
Written by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola, Asteroid City is said to be a “poetic meditation on the meaning of life.” Set in a fictional American desert town circa 1955 and its Junior Stargazer convention, the film brings together students and parents from across the country for scholarly competition, rest and recreation, comedy, drama, romance and more, before being spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events. As you can see in the poster, the stacked cast of Asteroid City includes Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau,...

Wes Anderson is thanking his lucky stars for Covid protocols overlapping with the “Asteroid City” production.
The auteur, whose science-filled out-of-this-world film debuted at 2023 Cannes, credited the global pandemic for inspiring the quarantine plotline in his latest script.
“During the intense part of the Covid period, we were writing the script. I don’t think there would be a quarantine in the story if we weren’t experiencing it,” Anderson said. “It wasn’t deliberate. Writing is the most improvisational part of the whole process.”
The subsequent pandemic protocols on the “Asteroid City” set in Spain also grounded the ensemble feature. The film was shot between August and October 2021.
“The making of the movie during Covid protocols, it really suited us. It worked for us,” Anderson added. “I loved that we formed a troupe and stayed together and sat at a long table and had dinner.”

Wes Anderson’s 1950s-set “Asteroid City” takes place in a fictional desert town as a cosmic event disrupts the annual Junior Stargazer convention. But does the filmmaker actually believe in extraterrestrial life?
“Well, you know… I wouldn’t rely on my opinions about that in any significant way,” Anderson said to laughter at Wednesday’s Cannes press conference for the film. “The research that went into this, as extensive as it was, it wasn’t anything you’d find in academia.”
“Stephen Hawking insists it is numerically improbable that there would not be extraterrestrial life,” he continued, adding sheepishly, “I don’t really.”
Anderson, who wrote the film with Roman Coppola, was joined at Wednesday’s press conference by Scarlett Johansson, Jason Schwartzman, Maya Hawke, Bryan Cranston, Stephen Park, Jeffrey Wright and Rupert Friend. Wes Anderson brought cowboys, aliens and movie stars to the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, earning a six-minute standing ovation at its world premiere.
Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, Matt Dillon, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Jeffrey Wright, Ed Norton, Margot Robbie and Jeff Goldblum are among the starry ensemble cast — many of whom were in attendance at the Grand Palais with their notoriously stylish and exacting director.
The project tells of a desert tourist trap that was one the sites of an asteroid landing, which also doubles as the location of an annual camp for “stargazers and space cadets.” The conceit is a story-within-a-story, as the cast plays a troupe of actors and stage crew for a play. Johansson had the Cannes crowd swooning as a movie star derailed in Asteroid City (and also as an actress playing that actress in the meta story).

In the grand scheme of television history, The Honeymooners didn’t air for terribly long. The show was filmed over a single calendar year. Still, the iconic sitcom has a cult following and has provided the world with plenty of pop culture references. Fans of the series might have noticed that the cast often wore the same wardrobe, but not many people realize one staple wardrobe piece came from an actor’s personal collection. Art Carney portrayed Ed Norton in The Honeymooners and provided the character’s iconic porkpie hat.

A Wes Anderson-Directed ‘Star Wars’ Trailer Created By AI Is Going Viral And The Internet Is Divided
Artificial intelligence continues to cause controversy online, and this time Wes Anderson is the latest point of conversation.
The iconic filmmaker, known for movies like “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “The Royal Tenenbaums”, is going viral, but not because of his filmmaking. Instead, an A.I.-generated rendition of an Anderson-directed “Star Wars” trailer is making its rounds across social media, and users remain divided on the possibilities of A.I. filmmaking.
The trailer for the faux film, titled “The Galactic Menagerie“, was uploaded to YouTube by the Curious Refuge channel on Friday, April 28. The teaser does its best to replicate the minute details of Anderson’s filmmaking techniques, including heavy use of pastel colours, symmetrical angles and deadpan narration.

Poor Wes Anderson. The filmmaker must rue the day the masses were able to use artificial intelligence to create tribute content that mimicked his signature visual style.
The latest piece of Anderson-like content to go viral is a trailer for The Galactic Menagerie, a YouTube clip created by the Curious Refuge channel. The trailer wonders what a Star Wars film would look like if Anderson had directed it, and features a lot of supposed traits that the filmmaker is known for, including symmetry, pastel colors, sardonic narration, painstaking attention to detail and offbeat humor. The mock cast also includes Anderson regulars Scarlett Johansson, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, Willem Defoe, Ed Norton, Timothée Chalamet and Owen Wilson as Darth Vader.
The Galactic Menagerie was posted on April 29, but reposted by various accounts on Twitter on Sunday where it has been seen and liked by millions and commented on by thousands.

(Welcome to Did They Get It Right?, a series where we look at an Oscars category from yesteryear and examine whether the Academy's winner stands the test of time.)
As someone who frequently peruses the past years of the Academy Awards, more often than not the results just wash over me. Rarely are the winners the most exciting options, but I generally understand how and why a given person or film walked away with a trophy, even if they wouldn't have gotten my vote. People like to grouse about the results of the Oscars, but their whiffing on a massive scale actually doesn't happen as often as people claim it does.
Of course, there are those "What were they thinking?" moments, like "Crash" winning Best Picture and "That Thing You Do!" losing Best Song. Few make me scratch my head harder than Best Actor at the 1975 Oscars. It's a slate...

In May, Prime Video will return to the world of live awards shows as it again broadcasts the Academy of Country Music Awards on May 11. The major event will be hosted by country-music superstars Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks. The 58th ACM Awards will stream live from The Star in Frisco, Texas. One of the benefits of an awards show on a streaming service is that it doesn’t run commercials. If Prime Video continues the tradition it started last year, the ACMs will utilize the entire venue to keep the action moving throughout the show.
Coming to the streaming service in May is Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom,” a charming, stylized coming-of-age adventure about two offbeat 12-year-olds (played by Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman) who find solace in each other. Their touching romance is a potent reminder that love comes at all ages — and adults have much to learn from children.

Does writer Scott Z. Burns have a crystal ball? The acclaimed writer foreshadowed Covid-19 in his 2011 “Contagion,” the Steven Soderbergh thriller about a highly contagious virus that becomes a worldwide pandemic. And now he’s warning the world about climate change in “Extrapolations,” Apple TV +’s eight-part anthology series with an all-star cast led by Meryl Streep, Ed Norton, Kit Harrington, Sienna Miller and Daveed Diggs.
Michele Norris, an opinion writer at the Washington and longtime friend of Burns, recently discussed the series over Zoom with the writer/creator and Norton.
Burns noted it’s a balancing act to educate audiences while simultaneously entertaining them. “I think I started from a place which is a documentary. It is a bit of a self-sorting organism. That’s changing a little bit; we’ve seen a lot of docs that have been made. Some are really wonderful that try and talk about the risks of climate change.

Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City” is out of this world.
The first look at the stylized universe behind the fictional city has Wes Anderson fans already desperate for more of the auteur’s signature symmetry and tableaux-inspired shot design. The trailer for the film gives a sneak peek at the lush desert landscapes and beige-toned themes of “Asteroid City,” which filmed in Spain.
The film is set to debut in theaters June 16 from Focus Features before a wide release June 23. This marks the first collaboration between Focus and Anderson since the Oscar-nominated 2012 coming-of-age story “Moonrise Kingdom,” the style of which has set the tone for his movies ever since like “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Isle of Dogs,” and last year’s “The French Dispatch” — all distributed by Searchlight.
“Asteroid City” is, of course, shot by Anderson’s trusted cinematographer Robert D. Yeoman, Oscar-nominated for “Grand Budapest” and the visionary behind...

Wes Anderson has kept busy the last few years. While putting the finishing touches on The French Dispatch as the pandemic hit––causing the film’s delay for over a year––he was also developing two more movies, both of which will arrive this year. Before his Roald Dahl adaptation of The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend, and Richard Ayoade, lands on Netflix this fall, we’ll see Asteroid City. Set for a June release from Focus Features and tipped to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, its first trailer has arrived.
