On the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel, we will be posting one full movie every day of the week, giving viewers the chance to watch them entirely free of charge. The feature we have to share with you today is the German mystery thriller The Last Compartment (a.k.a. Das letzte Abteil), and you can watch it over on the YouTube channel linked above, or you can just watch it in the embed at the top of this article.
If the fact that this is a German production makes some of you hesitant to take a look at the movie, hey, I understand. My taste in genre movies tends to lean toward the American as well. It brings to mind Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet, expressing his preference for Pabst Blue Ribbon over Heineken. While I’ve commented on the rise of Cosplay over the years, it’s usually referring to the quality of costumes and how much the bar has risen in the last decade. Not only are the materials used in the costumes better, but we’ve made leaps and bounds in makeup, design, and even the settings in which the shoots take place. Speaking of the shoots, another key element that you have to appreciate in a quality Cosplay production is the photography itself. While the Cosplayers are often the talents behind the makings of the costume, a photographer puts the final touches and

The last generation of games saw the birth of a new franchise, and subsequently the birth of a new leading lady with Platinum's Bayonetta. You certainly can't confuse the supernatural ass kicker with anyone else, as people whose hair can be used as an actual weapon are in short supply these days (and no, Willow Smith does not count). Bayonetta will be getting a new lease on life on the Wii U later this year. While you are waiting, here is a compilation of some of the best cosplay around.

Most Flogged is Psylocke | Photo by: Joseph Chi Lin
The X-Men aren't exactly lacking in firepower, but one of their most valuable weapons is their resident telekinetic ninja Psylocke, and for good reason. Aside from being able to “ask” someone to make her waffles at anytime with her telepathy, she can also create telekinetic constructs, which is a fancy way of saying she can create a crossbow with her mind. I think we can all agree that is awesome, and it seems the cosplay community thinks so too. While most of these pictures feature the classic Jim Lee era outfit, I was able to find a few modern and alternate versions of the character as well, so take a gander at some of the best Psylocke cosplay around.

We Are The Night Movie Review
Is it possible for a vampire film to feel really fresh anymore? I can happily report that yes, yes it can! We Are The Night (Wir sind die Nacht) is a recent vampire genre film out of Germany and despite the familiarity it felt very fresh and it was extremely entertaining.
The film felt like a mixture of The Lost Boys, Near Dark, and American late 90’s vampire films with that distinct European flavour. It ranges in classic genres too; it is part horror, part romance, part drama and part action. Director and co-writer Dennis Gansel successfully blended all these elements, and it was obvious while watching the film that this was a passion project. The film is Gansel’s own take on Camilla the gothic novella that pre-dates Dracula, a subject seen before on film but not quite in this way.

Terri (20th Century Fox) An awkward, obese teen (Jacob Wysocki) finds himself forming an odd friendship with his equally left-of-center vice-principal (John C. Low key film is filled with pathos and humor, but is ultimately too laid back for its own good (not to mention too long). Worth seeing for young Wysocki’s amazing, completely natural performance, and Reilly’s goofy charm. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Featurette; Deleted scenes. Widescreen. Once past the heavy-handed opening song whose primary lyrics are “self-fulfilling prophecy”, We Are the Night unfurls its themes of feminism, forced perspective and love’s resistance to expectation in a visually exciting style creating a film that proves to be more than just another emo-pandering vampire flick. If We Are the Night has anything to complain about, it’s the additions that came from the American side including the awful dubbing and a soundtrack that doesn’t know when to take a backseat.

Female vampires just want to have fun in We Are the Night.
A stylized vampire horror movie by German director Dennis Gansel (The Wave), 2010’s We Are the Night (or Wir sind die Nacht in its native German) follows a sect of seductive female vampires that hide out in Berlin’s alternative nightclubs, enjoying the luxuries and pleasures their attained immortality provides them. Oh, and when they’re not partying, the vamps are wreaking horror and havoc on a string of unsuspecting victims.
Starring striking German actresses Karoline Herfurth, Nina Hoss, Jennifer Ulrich and Anna Fischer as a quartet of blood-sucking babes who make the Sex and the City gals look like fruit bats, We Are the Night played in theaters in Europe last year and then popped up on a couple of screens in the U.S. in May to little fanfare.

It would be rad to be a vampire. "Curse" my ass.
Especially a vampire with flashy powers and massive sexiness. You could do awesome things like jump out of Lear jets in flight, rather than having to wait at the terminal like all the oxygen-breathing schmucks. You could inhale Tony Montana-sized quantities of blow and then walk on the ceiling for giggles. Your body would finally reject that awful teen angst tattoo, all by itself, no expensive laser surgery required.
We Are the Night gets that. It gets that vampirism sells itself for the most part, and that obnoxious gang initiations, like in Lost Boys and Near Dark, aren't required to force newcomers to the unlife to get with the program.

It takes a lot to make a noticeably different vampire film these days. The genre has been seemingly mined to death through the inanity that is the Twilight series to the more visceral thrills offered in the HBO adaptation of Charlaine Harris’ work in True Blood. Maybe that’s why it fell to a foreigner to offer us something messy but thought-provoking. Director Dennis Gansel conceived of his story, We are the Night back in 1996 and let is gestate in his mind before finding willing financial backers. Apparently, vamps don’t inspire moneymen in Germany so when the film failed to launch in 2006, Gansel went off to direct his acclaimed film, The Wave, and that finally got him his money.
The director says his inspiration came from the 1872 novel Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu and it shows. Louise (Nina Hoss) has been seeking the reincarnation of her one true love,...

We Are The Night is this cool and sleek German vampire film from director Dennis Gansel. This is definitely one of the better vampire flicks I’ve seen in a while, it has a few flaws but ranks right up there with vamp favorites like Interview With the Vampire and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It’s modernized, updated and has a story that involves a small circle of beautiful vampires.
We watch Lena (Karoline Herfurth) go from a street trash punk girl to one that gets transformed into what else, a vampire. Before all of this happens she is chased down by Detective Tom Serner (Max Riemelt) and they kind of make a quick bond, definitely a chemistry between these two. Anyway, she gets a way , something bad happens and she meets up with Louise (Nina Hoss) who becomes a mother figure of sort to Nina, with Louise is also...

Title: We Are the Night Director: Dennis Gansel Starring: Karoline Herfurth, Nina Hoss, Jennifer Ulrich, Anna Fischer, Max Riemelt Base-line expectations, just as in real life, can sometimes be a powerful determinant when it comes to movies. Given that the Twilight craze has made all things vampire hot once more, one could certainly be forgiven for settling into We Are the Night with a sleepy yawn, thinking it no more than a hollow, hyped-up European genre exercise owing its entire existence merely to a recent trend. On the contrary, German filmmaker Dennis Gansel’s movie is an engaging, well sketched, punky romp that, in telling the story of a hedonistic all-female vampire clan whose delicate balance is...

I’ve been following the progress of director Dennis Gansel’s We Are The Night for (literally) almost a year now. The film, which has been described as a female Lost Boys, is a Berlin-based female vampire drama starring Karoline Herfurth, Nina Hoss, Jennifer Ulrich, Anna Fischer and Max Riemelt.
One night 18-year-old Lena is bitten by Louise, leader of a female vampire trio that are as deadly as they are beautiful. Her newfound vampiric lifestyle is a blessing and a curse at the same time. At first she enjoys the limitless freedom, the luxury, the parties. But soon the murderous blood lust of her comrades in arms proves too much for her, and she falls dangerously in love with Tom, a young undercover cop. When she resolves to turn her back on the bloodsucking band of sisters, Louise’s fury knows no bounds. Lena will have to choose between immortal love and immortal life…...

We Are The Night ArtThe German language film Wir sind die Nacht aka We Are the Night has a new graphic, which shows off the sexy vampires from the film. The tagline for the flick is "Immortal, Insatiable," and this short line is an obvious double entendre. In case the message is not clear in the tagline, the sparse clothing and longing looks seem to state that this will be more than your average vampire film. If you are unfamiliar with the film, a trailer is provided below, which shows a vampire trio on the movie in the dark nightlife of Berlin.

Cologne, Germany -- History repeated itself in several ways at this year's German TV Awards, held Saturday night in Cologne. Public broadcasters ZDF and ARD once again swept the honors, taking 16 of 21 trophies, and all the main winners were historic dramas looking at Germany's recent past.
ZDF's "Die Wolfe" (The Wolves), a docu-drama set in the 1940s, won three TV awards, helping the channel to a final tally of 10, far ahead of all competitors.
But it was ARD's "Mogadischu," a "Flight 93"-style drama tracking the infamous 1977 terrorist hijacking of a Lufthansa flight, that scooped the evening's top prize as best TV movie. Produced by Berlin-based teamWorx, the movie stars Thomas Kretschmann, Nadja Uhl and Said Taghmaoui.
For a change, the top winner was also a ratings hit. Roland Suso Richter's drama scored a 21% share in its first airing last November, with 7.3 million Germans tuning in.
