Sony Pictures Classics has nabbed the North American rights to the Sundance award-winning film The Persian Version, a mother-daughter dramedy written, directed and produced by Maryam Keshavarz.
The film’s critical acclaim at Sundance, where it earned the Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic Competition and The Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award in the same sidebar, brought buyer attention to the film and a subsequent bidding war where Sony Pictures Classics prevailed.
Keshavarz’s film about Iranian immigrants in New York and New Jersey feeling neither at home in America or Iran stars Layla Mohammadi, Niousha Noor, Kamand Shafieisabet, Bijan Daneshmand, Bella Warda, Chiara Stella, Tom Byrne and Shervin Alenabi.
The film centers on Iranian-American Leila, played by Mohammadi, who comes from two countries at odds with each other, and strives to find balance and embrace her opposing cultures, while boldly challenging the labels society is so quick to project upon her.

After scaring millions of viewers in the first season of American Horror Story, Evan Peters is returning to his spot on the big screen alongside Juno Temple for a coming-of-age drama. According to Deadline, the pair will be leading writer-director Tony Aloupis‘s feature debut, titled Truck Stop.

The Hacienda Film Company’s Cory Neal and Andrew Mysko will produce alongside Aloupis Productions’ Joe Kreig.
To be honest, I’m not all that familiar with Temple‘s work — which is kind of sad on my part, mainly because she has been gaining celebrity status in the recent years with her work in The Three Musketeers, as well as the upcoming Linda Lovelace biopic,...
The ’70s-set drama “centers around an unlikely friendship between a high-schooler with cerebral palsy (Peters) and a troubled runaway with a dark past (Temple)”. The first-time director collaborated on Rotimi Rainwater‘s 2011 film, Sugar, of which he lent his writing talent to. The Hacienda Film Company’s Cory Neal and Andrew Mysko will produce alongside Aloupis Productions’ Joe Kreig.

Both Adam Green and Joe Lynch have made no secret of their man love for Twisted Sister's Dee Snider and the influence his music had on their lives growing up. Now with their new show for FEARnet, "Holliston", the boys are getting to live out a dream! Dig it!
For those not in the know, "Holliston" will be an offbeat half-hour, multi-camera buddy comedy series starring genre filmmakers Adam Green (Hatchet, Frozen) and Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Knights of Badassdom). It marks the first original production for the linear network. (FEARnet has done original digital series for the Web.) The show is expected to join FEARnet’s Tuesday night "Twisted Comedy" block.
Set in the town of Holliston, Ma, "Holliston" is described as "Wayne's World meets Saw" and stars Green and Lynch as lesser versions of themselves. They will play Adam and Joe, two friends chasing the dream...

Guest poster Tim Sullivan shares the making of a head shattering scene in the recent festival hit, I Was A Teenage Wearbear.
One of the highlights of I Was a Teenage Werebear, mysegment of Chillerama (hitting the streets this coming Tuesday, November 29th where all brand new flicks are sold, rented, downloaded, illegally pirated etc… ) is a scene in which I, as the lecherous Coach Tuffman, have my head squashed by conflicted student Ricky O’Reilly (played by Sean Paul Lockhart) in rebuttal to my ‘generous’ offer to do for Ricky what ‘my wife will never do for me…”.
It’s a moment designed to be the first really big gross out moment of the film. The gasp inducing “Oh, no, they didn’t!” kill scene equivalent to the ‘Drawn and Quartering’ of the lovely Miss Pussy (Gina Marie Heekin) in 2001 Maniacs, and the ‘Buzz Saw Halving’ of siren Alana Curry in Field of Screams.
