“We’re out there listening [and] consuming content … and you start to recognize that there are changes afoot. There are new voices that want to see themselves on screen and talk about their lived experiences in different ways,” Day told TheWrap for this week’s Office With a View. “When you’re listening to that, your filter then is authentic people that have a passion for doing something, and there’s a marketplace for that in the television landscape.”

Exclusive: The era of the Reveille of Ben Silverman is officially over -- Howard T. Owens will step down as managing director of the Shine-owned company in June when his contract is up. He plans to spend time with his family while consulting for Reveille through the end of the year. A search for Owens' replacement is already under way. Owens was Reveille's first employee when Silverman launched the company in 2002. He was one of a core troika Silverman brought with him from Wma, along with Chris Grant and Mark Koops, who together took over running the company when Silverman left for NBC. Following Shine's 2008 acquisition of Reveille, Grant became head of Shine International, with Owens and Koops becoming co-managing partners of Reveille. "The Biggest Loser" is bigger than ever this season. Not its contestants, although its 20-plus cast are sure to be a challenge for trainers Jillian Michaels, Bob Harper, and host Allison Sweeney. But no, "Biggest Loser" is thinking outside the ranch this year and including not only the contestants but their communities as well.
For the first time, "The Biggest Loser" follows the contestants to their hometowns from the start, kicking off with challenges necessary to earn their spots in the ranch. Michaels, Harper, and Sweeney all travel to seven cities: Los Angeles, Portland, Atlanta, Detroit, Phoenix, Oklahoma City and Boston.
Out of the three hopefuls, along with cheering crowds, only the first two who finish the challenge first actually make it into the house. The show also gets those usually stagnant spectators in on the action as well through community fitness challenges. So not only do we see the respective contestants dropping weight,...

Just when you thought it was safe to take the ice cream out of the freezer and step away from the treadmill, Jillian Michaels is back. CBS is getting its own dance show.
The network is partnering with Reveille to bring U.K. hit "Got to Dance" to the States.
The competition series is billed as the first all-ages all-genres dance series. A wide variety of acts will compete for a panel of judges, with viewers getting to vote during the semifinals and finals.
CBS has greenlit the project for an unspecified number of episodes. This marks the third major network to have a dance-competition series, joining ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," with NBC's "Got Talent" also having a foot in the genre.
Sources say CBS alternative topper Jennifer Bresnan liked the relatability of expanding the genre beyond professionals to include amateurs with undiscovered talent and high aspirations.
Elisabeth Murdoch, Howard T. Owens, Mark Koops and Robin Ashbrook will executive produce the Shine Group format created by Princess Prods.

And we thought poor Shay was larger than life. Today, NBC announced that the ninth edition of The Biggest Loser on Jan. 5 will feature the heaviest cast ever, with one participant - a Chicago man named Michael - tipping the scales at an astonishing 526 lbs. He'll be at the ranch with his Italian mother Maria, where the avoirdupois duo will work out along side a pair of identical twins (James and John of Florida) who NBC says "together weigh close to a half a ton" on this special family edition. Fun? The record-breaking size of the latest contestants doesn't exactly...

From Tracey's frightening trip to the hospital to the group's special tour of the White House vegetable garden, it was quite a year on The Biggest Loser. EW talked to creator-executive producer Mark Koops about the show's most memorable moments and whether we've seen the last of the 400-pound plus contestants. Entertainment Weekly: Was this a milestone season by virtue of the fact you went to the White House? Mark Koops: I think every year we gain momentum. There is no greater embrace of how far this show has come. In season 9, we'll go to the Olympic training facility in Colorado.

Fox is expanding its line of Gordon Ramsay reality shows by giving a series order to Reveille's "MasterChef."
Ramsay will co-produce and star in the program, in which nonprofessional cooks compete to create perfect dishes. The project is based on a Shine TV format that's popular in the U.K. and Australia. The show joins Ramsay's other titles on Fox -- "Hell's Kitchen" and "Kitchen Nightmares" -- and should keep Fox stocked with the temperamental chef's reality fare nearly year-around.
"A huge reality format that works great in other countries plus Gordon Ramsay guarantees success," Fox president of alternative Mike Darnell said. "Gordon is like our 'CSI.' "
The "MasterChef" format has aired in several incarnations in the U.K., with the earliest dating to 1990. The Australian edition premiered this year and has been a ratings powerhouse, its finale ranking as one...

NBC is attempting to touch Americans in a more personal way through "Losing It with Jillian". A companion series has been created for "The Biggest Loser" to visit families in need to change their unhealthy lifestyle. Trainer Jillian Michaels will travel the country to help people changing their diet and exercise habit.
The idea was born out of consideration that people may be skeptical about the TV show. "I hear all the time from people about 'Oh, it'd be so easy to do if I was on the ranch, if I had a personal gym,' " Michaels explained. "I got sick of hearing it. So we're telling people, we'll come to you and teach you how to be healthy."
The deal is, Michaels will stay for a while in the family's home and teach them about nutrition, fitness and wellness. Thus unlike "Biggest Loser" which focus is to shed pounds,...

The big, on-air argument between "The Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels and Filipe Fa on the last season of the series is now explained -- and attributed to drug accusations! TV Guide magazine.com reports that the quarrel between the trainer and the contestant took place after Fa made the accusation that Michaels was giving her team drugs. As a result of the allegation, an internal drug investigation was instigated. It was her sense of betrayal that led to the disagreement that aired when Michaels refused to do a one-on-one workout with her accuser. “We had an entire ‘Kenneth Starr’ investigation," Michaels tells the Web site. "Because the minute someone makes that claim, you have to. They didn’t shut down production, but it took a week. I was so furious, so disgusted. I felt so betrayed.” According to the Web site, Fa has since said he never made the accusation,...

NBC has slotted two new reality series from Mark Burnett.
The family competition series My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad will succeed American Gladiators in the 8 p.m. Monday slot beginning Feb. 18, while the comedy quiz show Amnesia will take over the 8 p.m. Friday slot Feb. 29, following a Feb. 22 debut at 9 p.m., after the season finale of 1 vs. 100.
NBC's original scheduling plan had another reality series, The Baby Borrowers, airing in the 8 p.m. Monday slot after Gladiators ends its run. But NBC executives are said to have gotten excited about "Dad" following the show's first taping over the weekend. Because of its format as a high-energy competition, it was deemed a better fit out of Gladiators than the social experiment Baby Borrowers.
Hosted by Dan Cortese, "Dad" features fathers and their son or daughter competing against other teams. The show, created by Jon Hotchkiss, is produced by Reveille, Mark Burnett Prods. and Hotchkiss Industries. Burnett, Mark Koops, Howard T. Owens, Mike Nichols and Jon Hotchkiss are the executive producers.

USA Network's Nashville Star is moving to NBC.
After weeks of ramblings, NBC has picked up the country singing competition for a sixth season to launch in the summer, along with the second season of American Gladiators.
The two unscripted shows will be cornerstones of the network's NBC's All-American Summer promo campaign leading into NBC Universal's coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
"These exciting new reality shows will be a vital part of 'NBC's All-American Summer' building up to the drama of the Beijing Olympics," NBC's reality chief Craig Plestis said. "We are thrilled to feature the powerhouse 'Gladiators' this summer, and it's a real coup to bring 'Nashville Star' to NBC."

Silverman is exec producing Nashville with Howard T. Owens, Mark Koops and Sallyann Salsano.
Multi-city auditions for Nashville will begin in February. For the first time ever, the series will be open not just to solo artists but also to duets and singing groups.
