From the mosh pit of TV cancellations, the animated cult hit Metalocalypse rises up and delivers Army of the Doomstar. And without missing a beat, the story of the world’s most successful death metal band Dethklok picks up right where it left off. This new feature-length film serves as a direct continuation of 2013’s sublime and singular metal-opera The Doomstar Requiem. Those hanging plot threads are now finally answered in this climactic music odyssey brimful with hellfire and end of world stakes.
In the universe of Metalocalypse, the band Dethklok reigns supreme as metal lords whose global success has a direct effect on both society and the economy. The government keeps a watchful eye on the band as well as any trends and incidents influenced by their actions. Despite their godlike power, the five members of Dethklok — lead singer Nathan Explosion (Brendon Small), bassist William Murderface (Tommy Blacha), lead...

If you’ve watched TV in the past 10 years, chances are you know Bear McCreary’s music. He’s become one of the most (if not the most) sought-after and prolific composers in television, ever since he came into his own writing the boundary-pushing score for the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series. He counts The Walking Dead, Outlander, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. among his credits. And this March theater-goers got to experience his music with a big screen presentation; he composed the chilling and thrilling score for J.J. Abrams’ 10 Cloverfield Lane. Today McCreary is juggling so many projects that he can’t count all his current TV shows and movies and video games — “I can’t even tell. I honestly don’t even know,” how many projects he’s in the midst of, he said during an interview at Cafe Laurent in Culver City, CA. The...

For some, the corporate cubicle setting is as horrifying as the creepy boiler rooms that Freddy Krueger haunts in the A Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Script excerpts and storyboards for an imagined tenth film in the Elm Street franchise show Freddy tormenting a coma patient by placing him in a mind-numbing office environment where meaningless meetings, tear-inducing small talk, and countless hours of hellish tasks reign supreme, with no escape in sight. The upcoming Starz "Outlander" won't premiere for a few more weeks, but you can see how it all begins here. Starz has released the show's opening credits, featuring new footage. The time travel-romance finds 20th century nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) sent back to 18th century Scotland, where she discovers romance and adventure with swashbuckling highlander James Fraser (Sam Heughan). Executive produced by Ronald D. Moore ("Battlestar Galactica"), the series is based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon. The new opening features an arrangement of the Scottish folk ditty "Skye Boat Song" by the show's composer (and fellow "Battlestar" vet) Bear McCreary featuring the vocals of his singer wife Raya Yarbrough. Watch the opening credits here: The show's first episode premiered at Comic-Con. "Outlander" premieres August 9 at 9 p.m. on Starz.

Starz’ Outlander had its world premiere screening to a rapturous crowd of 1,500 fans in downtown San Diego on Friday night. But before the airing the first episode, Emmy-winning composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead) treated the audience to a live performance of the show’s score, including his title credits song. It’s an arrangement of the Scottish folk tune “The Skye Boat Song” — appropriate for Starz’ romantic adventure following a 20th century woman who travels back in time to 18th century Scotland.
