Emily Cook is a huge Doctor Who fan. She has been since 2005 when, as a young girl, her parents suggested she join them to watch the return of a sci-fi show they had loved back in the day. ‘That sounds boring,’ thought Emily – and then she reluctantly sat down in front of ‘Rose‘, the debut episode of Russell T Davies’s revamped Doctor Who, and the rest is history.
“It was the most exciting thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” she says, “it really just drew me in… From the moment you see the shot zoom down to planet Earth and Rose is in her bedroom and she whacks the alarm, I was just hooked.”
Emily became so obsessed with Who, in fact, that during her English degree she persuaded a contact to get her work experience on the show’s official publication, Doctor Who Magazine, which had...

The Covid-19 pandemic has been tough on people all around the world, but Doctor Who fans have benefited from a group of creatives, both old and new, who’ve delivered a ton of new content over the last few months to keep Whovians entertained.
Indeed, it’s getting more and more difficult keeping sane with all the social distancing rules and curfews in place to curb the spread of the infectious disease. And even if not for that, the fact that people have to spend more time at home self-isolating without much to do is enough to drive everyone over the edge, especially now that the entertainment industry has also essentially come to a halt. The crew of the Tardis, on the other hand, continue to save time and space on an unbreakable streak.

Happy birthday, Mr. David Tennant! April 18th marks the day the Doctor Who star turns 49 years young, so let’s take a moment to celebrate one of the most popular Time Lords there’s ever been.
Way back in 2005, the 34-year-old Tennant made his debut as the Tenth Doctor, assuming the iconic role after predecessor Christopher Eccleston bowed out after just 13 episodes. The Scotsman went on to lead the show through one of its most beloved periods in its 50 plus-year history before he handed over the sonic screwdriver 10 years ago in “The End of Time: Part 2.”
But he’s never really stopped playing the Doctor since. In 2013, Tennant returned opposite Smith and guest Doctor John Hurt for the big 50th anniversary special, and in recent years he’s reprised the character on audio numerous times for Big Finish Productions. As a lifelong Doctor Who fan, Tennant’s part of the Whovian family for life.

The Doctor Who fan community has really come together since we all went into quarantine, with various livestream screenings of beloved episodes keeping us entertained. First of all, “The Day of the Doctor” got the treatment, with writer Steven Moffat and star Dan Starkey sharing a hilarious new intro for the anniversary special. Then it was “Rose,” which aired 15 years ago last week. For that, ex-showrunner Russell T. Davies not only wrote a short prequel to the episode, but also released an even longer sequel story which reveals the untold tale of what happens next.
As fans will know, “Rose” was the first installment in the modern era of Who, introducing us to the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler as they battled the Nestene Consciousness and its army of living plastic mannequins. Obviously, the heroes defeat the alien monster in the end. However, this sequel reveals that the Nestene managed...

Jennifer Yuh Nelson's "Kung Fu Panda 2" dominated the Annie Awards nominations, but the International Animated Film Society decided to give its highest honor -- the Best Animated Feature award -- to Gore Verbinski's "Rango." Both films are from DreamWorks Animation and they still have to duke it out at the upcoming Oscars in the Best Animated Feature Film category.
Besides the Best Animated trophy, "Rango" also collected awards for Best Editing and Writing. I'm a huge fan of animation, animated films are getting better and better. Not only is the look and animation getting ridiculously awesome, but I find that many of these animated films actually have incredibly good stories. Not all of them are good though, for example, Cars 2 and Rio sucked. It will be interesting to see who ends up taking home the awards this year. Out of the movies on the list that I've seen and liked we have Puss in Boots, Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2. I guess it's no surprises that Kung Fu Panda 2 is leading the nominations with 9. Check out the list and let us know what your favorite animated movies of the year are!

DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 2 picked up 12 nominations for the 39th Annual Annie Awards — announced today by the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood — including Best Animated Feature and Best Director. DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots and Paramount’s Rango won nine nods, and Pixar’s Cars 2 earned seven. I don't put much stock in the Annie Awards and neither does Disney after withdrawing from the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood back in 2010. I have personally never found them to be a good judge of quality and as such don't pay them any particular attention, though I will pass along the information as they have announced their 2011 nominees with Dreamworks' Kung Fu Panda 2 leading the way with 12 nominations, followed by Puss in Boots and Rango each with nine. Of course, while Disney has withdrawn from the Annies that doesn't mean they aren't considered for the awards as Cars 2, Gnomeo and Juliet and Winnie the Pooh are among the nominees. Last year How to Train Your Dragon reigned supreme over Toy Story 3 and I wouldn't be surprised to see Kung Fu Panda 2 take home plenty of hardware, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, which beat out...

Gnomeo & Juliet
Stars: James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Matt Lucas, Jason Statham | Written by Kelly Asbury, Mark Burton, Kevin Cecil, Emily Cook, Kathy Greenberg, Andy Riley & Steve Hamilton Shaw | Directed by Kelly Asbury
A new twist on Bill Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy (you know the one…), the punnily titled Gnomeo & Juliet follows the rivalry between two neighboring gardens and their pint-sized inhabitants – garden gnomes, frogs and other potted creatures – replacing Montagues and Capulets with Reds and Blues, and the forbidden romance between the titular star-crossers, Gnomeo (James McAvoy) and Juliet (Emily Blunt).
While not being entirely original (clearly), the film does have a good go at putting a new spin on events, with the Red & Blues’ rivalry being mostly based on making one garden look worse than the other, or racing lawnmowers down the adjacent alleyway, sometimes resulting in unfortunate smashes. However, this new spin isn’t...

In the second prominent movie about an aging cheerleader since Dubya, New Line have acquired the rights to the life story of one Laura Vikmanis who, at the age of 42 is by some distance the oldest cheerleader working in the NFL. The story was taken up and pitched by Emily Cook and Kathy Greenberg who are currently enjoying a great deal of success with their script for Gnomeo and Juliet, which has been strong at the box offices both here and abroad.
And in Vikamanis, they clearly see the narrative of the individual heroin against the odds that plays particularly well to American audiences, especially given what a specifically American phenomenon cheerleading is.
Vikmanis took up cheerleading after her husband left her as a means to filling in her time. She witnessed the Cincinnati Bengals cheerleading team at a match with her sister and spent the following year training before...

New Line may have picked up the rights to a new cheerleading story, but it will certainly be a far cry from the likes of "Bring it On" and its several (unnecessary) sequels.
Laura Vikmanis, the 42-year-old Ben-Gal who currently holds the record as the NFL's oldest cheerleader, will be the subject of a new big-screen project according to The Hollywood Reporter. Don't expect just a fluffy comedy about blonde cheerleaders though, as the story is being compared to Sandra Bullock's "The Blind Side."
Co-writers Kathy Greenberg and Emily Cook explain that while there will be some humor in the story, it will definitely hold more substance.
"It's really a feel good populist story in the vein of 'Blind Side,'" Greenberg says. "It's got more comedy to be sure, but it's an earnest story."

The Hollywood Reporter is hearing that New Line Cinema has picked up a treatment by Emily Cook and Kathy Greenberg (Gnomeo & Juliet, Ratatouille) about Laura Vikmanis, who’s a 42 year-old Cheerleader. The film is said to be a “feel good populist story in the vein of Blind Side. It’s got more comedy to be sure, but it’s an earnest story,” according to Greenberg. Richard and Lauren Shuler Donner are producing the film with Jack Leslie, Donner’s Co. President. No word on who could direct or star in the film just yet.
Cook found that it was easy to find inpiration into Vikmanis’s life. “She is a 42-year-old in a sea of 20-year-olds; she’s definitely a fish in out of water. It’s a great contrast. And she proved you can reinvent yourself at any age,” Cook said. Vikmanis is a mother of two teenage daughters,...

Mom, cheerleader, and now, inspiration for a major motion picture.
At 42 years old, Laura Vikmanis is the NFL's oldest cheerleader. If it sounds like a Hollywood film, well, it soon will be.
New Line Cinema has picked up the rights to Vikmanis' story, The Hollywood Reporter reports, with "Gnomeo and Juliet" writers Emily Cook and Kathy Greenberg set to translate her life to a film script. It's a story that has already been documented in the national press.

Any producer with half a brain is eager to compare their potential project to The Blind Side, the movie that grossed $300 million worldwide when nobody expected anything out of it. But New Line may have the actual next Blind Side on their hands-- an inspirational sports movie with a role tailor made for Sandra Bullock. As THR reports, they've got producers RIchard and Lauren Shuler Donner working on the life story of Laura Vikmanis, who at 42 is the oldest cheerleader in the NFL. The movie will be based on both on Vikmanis's life rights and a pitch from writers Emily Cook and Kathy Greenberg, who worked on Gnomeo and Juliet but I'll choose not to hold that against them. Vikmanis didn't exactly age up in the cheerleader ranks-- at 39, when her husband left her for a younger woman, she spent a year training in order to try out for the...

The studio has picked up Vikmanis' life rights and Emily Cook and Kathy Greenberg will be penning her story.

The famous family feuding this time takes place at lawn level, spanning the backyards of two warring neighbors (in the suitable geographic locale of Shakespeare’s birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon). Red and blue gnomes (politics undisclosed) — poisoned into conflict by their owners’ attitudes — scheme,...

This one sheet is a seriously great bit of marketing for "Madea's Big Happy Family" that riffs on another iconic poster.
Stills from Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, posters for Scream 4 and A Better Life, heaps of hi-res images of the toy line tie-in for Thundercats, and the logo artwork for The Muppets.
A beauty-sucking Queen and battle-hungry dwarves are the highlights says a script review of the upcoming "Snow White and the Huntsman" at Universal Pictures.
A fun video comparing scenes from both versions of "True Grit".
Warner Bros. Pictures has announced an April 15th release date for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One". The film will be available as both a Blu-ray combo (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy) release and a single-disc DVD.
"Emily Cook & Kathy Greenberg have been hired to write the ensemble romantic comedy "The Gaggle" for New Line. The story aims to explore...

Most of us here at Pwhq have Olympic fever, and however you feel about the rest of the coverage, there's one cool way to follow these games that we've never had before: Athletes themselves are tweeting the experience! Indeed our debut stud of the day Chris Plys is one of Vancouver's most prolific tweeters, but a lot of members of Team USA are active Twitterfolk. Behold: Alpine Skiing Hailey Duke Erik Fisher Ted Ligety Julia Mancuso Steven Nyman Marco Sullivan Lindsey Vonn Andrew Weibrecht Jake Zamansky Biathlon Jeremy Teela Bobsled Steven Holcomb Steve Mesler Elana Meyers Justin Olsen Cross-country skiing...

Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the designing sisters behind the ethereal Rodarte line, usually get press for dressing trendsetters such as Keira Knightley, Kristen Dunst, Milla Jovovich, Emma Watson and Natalie Portman.
But the designers accepted a challenge from the New York Times Sunday magazine to design activewear for 13 Olympic athletes competing in Vancouver for an upcoming photo spread in the Nyt's Sunday magazine.
According to Wwd, Johnny Weir was shot mid-spin in a colorful crocheted jumpsuit (left).
We might consider taking up snowboarding or skiing if we could wear cool Rodarte duds.
Other models include figure skater Evan Lysacek, Rachael Flatt, and pairs skaters Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker; freestyle skiers Jeret "Speedy" Peterson, Hannah Kearney and Emily Cook; snowboarders Hannah Teter and Kelly Clark, and ski jumper Anders Johnson.
Think Rodarte Sport!

Miss America 2010, hosted by Mario Lopez and What Not To Wear's Clinton Kelly, airs live Saturday at 8 p.m. Et on Tlc. Below is an interview reel featuring a few of the contestants speaking about the scholarship program. Early favorite: Miss Kentucky Mallory Ervin. For starters, her name is Mallory, which, of course, makes you think of Family Ties. Then, you've got her non-pageant posture — she's almost hunching in her director's chair. Then, she somehow manages to explain how nice all the contestants are in a way that doesn't make you want to slap her. "I know you all watch the pageant,...

Paramount Vantage has purchased the rights to British author Grant Stoddard's debut book, Working Stiff: A Memoir, with screenwriters Emily Cook and Kathy Greenberg attached to adapt.
Published by Harper Perennial in January, Stiff chronicles Stoddard's journey from London student dropout to celebrated sex columnist for Nerve.com in New York. In his weekly column --"I Did It for Science" -- the author recounts his hilarious, and often exotic, sexual misadventures and the lasting effects they have on him.
Ross Martin, head of programming for mtvU, will executive produce. He took the book, before its release, to Vantage production head Amy Israel, who brought the project into the studio.
Stoddard is repped by CAA, Claudia Cross of Sterling Lord Listeristic and Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein & Lezcano.
Cook and Greenberg (Ratatouille) are repped by Gersh.
