Washington, Aug 25 – Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal says that it is ok to fail at being a perfect parent sometimes and to take the aid of a nanny in bringing up kids.
Gyllenhaal, 32, who plays the role of harried young mother Mrs. Green in the movie ‘Nanny McPhee Returns’, says she almost became like her character when she tried to balance the demands of movies and motherhood.
“Mrs. Green literally had a birds nest in her hair and children hanging from the chandelier and she kept saying she was fine. I was definitely like that,” Fox News quoted her as saying.
“When my daughter was first born I kept saying ‘I don’t need anybody, I’m just going to do this by myself’..

Yes, it stars a Gyllenhaal and it's a kids' movie, but it's all about and by women and you should care about that.

Here.s a movie intended for the youngest of audiences that.s full of many pleasant surprises. Nanny McPhee Returns is a sequel to 2005.s Nanny Ncphee. I didn.t see the original, so I came in with a fresh set of eyes having only seen the trailers. These trailers seemed to just focus on various characters falling in the mud and poo(warning parents: you get to hear that word about 25 times in the first half hour) and shots of the adorable farm animals. Happily the film itself has much more to offer than slapstick.
The film opens in the English countryside during World War II ( although WWII is never spoken during the film, it.s just referred to as the war). Mrs. Green (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal as a woman in dire need of rest) is running a small farm with the help of her two sons and...

I didn't watch Nanny McPhee when the movie was released in 2005. Frankly, I found the image of the lovely Emma Thompson done up with hairy moles and snaggletooth quite frightening. However, after seeing Nanny McPhee Returns this week, I learned my own lesson from Nanny "little C, big P" McPhee -- don't judge a book by its cover. Award-winning actress and writer Thompson reprises her role as screenwriter and star, but this time she's also the executive producer, which might explain some of the big names in Nanny McPhee Returns. However, it's not just the stars in the cast that make this film enjoyable. Thompson's screenwriting skills provide the youngest members of the cast with well-developed characters.
Based on characters created by Christianna Brand in the Nurse Matilda series, the central plot of Nanny McPhee Returns focuses on the same formula. An unintentional single parent is pestered by misbehaving children,...

See new pics from Universal Pictures' "Nanny McPhee Returns" starring Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rhys Ifans and Maggie Smith. Emma Thompson writes based upon the "Nurse Matilda" books by Christianna Brand. The family film finds theaters on August 20th and is helmed by Susanna White. The first film opened January 27th, 2006, earning $14.5 million in its first weekend before ending off with $47.1 million domestically and over $75 million overseas. Enough to warrant a sequel considering its $25 million budget. Also known as "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang," Nanny McPhee appears at the door of a harried young mother, Mrs. Isabel Green (Maggie Gyllenhaal), who is trying to run the family farm while her husband is away at war. But once she's arrived, Nanny McPhee discovers that Mrs. Green's children are fighting a war of their own against two spoiled city cousins who have just moved in and refuse to leave.

I’m afraid I cant get massively excited about this movie but I know a lot of people out there who loved the first one. The cast is impressive and as well as Emma Thompson reprising her original role, she’s joined by Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ralph Fiennes, Maggie Smith, Rhys Ifans and Bill Bailey. It’s out March 26th so if you’re desperate to see this movie, you’ve not got too long to wait.

Mother and Child
Opens: 2010
Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.
Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.
The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not...

Remember when the first Nanny McPhee hit theatres back in 2005? Friends, family, colleagues, everyone kept telling me how fantastic the film was. Me being me however, I dismissed it as a silly family movie…that is up until I finally caught it on Sky Movies in 2006.
Continuing on from that first, fantastic installment is Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang – and it looks like the series has lost none of it’s charm!
