“Every Little Thing” has changed for Carly Pearce over the past few years. Gone are the days of cleaning Airbnbs to make ends meet, of music executives saying, “You sound dated,” of being told “no.” It’s a comeuppance Pearce long dreamed about that has finally arrived.
With her hit song sitting inside the top 10 on the country charts, the singer-songwriter — named “One to Watch” by People for 2017 — will release her debut album, Every Little Thing, Oct. 13 on Big Machine Records.

There’s a saying around Nashville that “it’s a 10 year town.” As a singer-songwriter, it often takes 10 years (and at least one or two failed record deals) to get your big break. Based off of this theory, Carly Pearce is right on track.
Eight years after moving to Nashville, where she was once told, “I could throw a rock and hit six different girls that just sing pretty and look good,” Pearce, 27, is finally getting her chance.
As the only solo female artist currently on the Top 20 Billboard country airplay chart with her hit “Every Little Thing” (Maren Morris...

Two months ago, most of the movie-going world did not know that 10 Cloverfield Lane even existed. When the trailer premiered in front of 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, the internet seemed to be confused. There’s a sequel to Cloverfield? What does 10 Cloverfield Lane mean? Is that John Goodman? It comes out in two months?!
The only thing that seemed to make sense is that the man behind this mysterious marketing campaign was J.J. Abrams. The mastermind of the “mystery box,” Abrams is the king of keeping secrets in Hollywood. Most of his films, whether he produces or directs them, are hidden behind a huge curtain of secrecy, including 2008’s Cloverfield. That found-footage monster flick had its trailer premiere in front of Transformers and no title. No one knew what to expect come January 18, 2008, but a lot of people showed up as it debuted to $40.1 million, on its way...

The X Factor hopefuls Jake Quickenden and Paul Akister admit that this round of Judges' Houses feels like their last chance on tonight's episode.
Both Quickenden and Akister have reached the Judges' Houses stage before - in 2012 and 2013 respectively - but are now back in the same position after flying to Mexico with Mel B and the other Boys.
"I've been here before - if it doesn't go well again, I'm done," Quickenden says, as Akister agrees.
Quickenden adds that another rejection would be "heartbreaking" while Akister says: "When I got a no last year, the journey home was horrible. I don't think I could do that again."
Both of the men add that they are hoping to make their families proud this time around, as Quickenden says he wants to see "a proper smile, a proud smile" from his mum and Akister admits he'd love to tell his parents...

Simon Cowell might just be a genius. An hour into Wednesday night’s X Factor episode, all I could think was “Just an hour and change till the series premiere of Nashville!”
A mere 45 minutes later, however, the state of my mental health rested entirely in the fates of a lady rapper from Flint, Mi, who fancies a sequined eyepatch; a trio of Texas sisters who look like they’ve been perpetually trapped inside a tampon ad; five (possibly six) teenage boys glued together by Simon Cowell’s sweat and Marc Anthony’s tears (it’s hard to keep count...

Susan Tyrrell, an Academy Award-nominated actress, but known more for her off-beat cult movies, has passed away at the age of 67. According to her official website, she died Sunday, June 16. A cause of death was not immediately available.
Tyrrell burst onto the national film scene in her fourth movie, John Huston's 1972 cult hit "Fat City." She was the low-down boozer girlfriend opposite Stacy Keach's has-been boxer Billy Tully. The role earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
She went on to star in more cult classics like "Bad," "Forbidden Zone," "Angel" and "Avenging Angel," but some know her best as Midge Montana from "Big Top Pee Wee," Chuck the bartender from 1988 musical "Rockula" or Johnny Depp's on-screen Aunt Ramona Ricketts in the 1990 John Waters cult musical "Cry-Baby." She also starred in Depp's 1990 short film "Every Little Thing, Neil."

"Touch" has had an incredible season, but the two part season finale "Gyre" gripped the heart and never let go. If you haven't had a chance to watch the show, make sure you marathon it this summer, because Season 2 starts this fall.
Though we had beautiful b-stories this week, between the tsunami survivors connecting over the internet, the incredible music ("Every Little Thing Is Gonna Be Alright" was the perfect song), it was Martin (Kiefer Sutherland) and Jake's (David Mazouz) story that was the main focus.
It was brilliant bringing back in older characters as we wrap up the New York story line and getting closure on some stories, but the big moments were Clea's (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) "deception" and meeting the mysterious Amelia's mother (Maria Bello). Astercorp is definitely hunting Jake and they faked Amelia's death. Amelia speaks! We know that from the video. So what happens now? Jake held his father's hand (sob!

Once upon a time, when The Playlist was a fledgling blog, we had a semi-regular column called Videodrome, which looked at the world of music videos. While we focus mostly on movies, we've always maintained an interest in the places where they cross over with music, and the promo world has provided us with directors from Spike Jonze and David Fincher to Michael Bay and Francis Lawrence, as well as occasionally featured big name stars.
Between one thing and another, we let the column lapse a little, but music videos have by no means become less important: the month began with one promo veteran, Nima Nourizadeh, making his directorial debut with "Project X," while the last few weeks have seen Jake Gyllenhaal get murderous in a clip for The Shoes; Lance Bangs roll with Odd Future in the fun "Oldie" and Brett Ratner become attached to a project about the history of MTV.

A star with a Twitter account is every publicist’s nightmare and every pop culture junkie’s dream come true. That felt especially true in 2011, the year of the unfiltered celebrity tweeter. (We’re looking at you Ellen Barkin, Ashton Kutcher, and Charlie Sheen!) But which stars had the most entertaining — for better or for worse — Twitter feeds of the year? Is it Steve Martin, Seth Meyers, or Elizabeth Banks that deserves bragging rights for the best, thanks to their smart and silly musings? When it comes to the worst, does anyone come close to chronic over-sharers like Kim Kardashian and Courtney Stodden?...

A delightful site called Flavor Wire has come up with the rather ingenious idea of creating mixtapes for all the classic literary characters. Their most recent one is Lolita, from Vladimir Nabokov's classic novel. Her greatest hits include "Bad Reputation" and "My Boyfriend's Back."
But a wonderful one they did was for Holden Caulfield from J.D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye." His mixtape includes "Mad World," "Sing, Sing, Sing" and "The State I Am In." The site has also done Tintin and Humbert Humbert.
We're already formulating ones for more favorite characters:
Hermione Granger: "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," "Witchy Woman"
Laurie Lawrence: "Sisters," "Can't Fight This Feeling"
Raskolnikov: "Getting Away With Murder," "The Perfect Crime #2."
What are some that pop into your head?...

Rocker Sting had to fight back tears at the first date in his Symphonicity Tour in Vancouver, Canada on Wednesday, June 2 night as he struggled with stagefright and the sheer weight of what he had accomplished.
The former The Police frontman will tour the world backed by the London Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and before he debuted orchestral versions of hits like "Roxanne" and "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", the 58 year old star took a few seconds to savor the moment.
Calling his new band "50 of the best musicians in the world", Sting performed for three hours at the Center in Vancouver for Performing Arts. In an exclusive interview with TV show Entertainment Tonight just before the show, the rocker confessed to being more than a little anxious.
He said, "This is a big deal for me. It's a huge responsibility. At the same time, I'm thrilled -...

Though a mythology usually gets built up retroactively, most bands start more with a shrug than with any sort of spectacular introduction. Though it would make more sense for the members of Led Zeppelin to descend from Olympus or for Black Sabbath to rise from the depths of Hell, great rock bands tend to begin with a bunch of dudes shrugging and saying "Let's rock." Such was the case on this date in 1977, when Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers first played live together. They would later go on to form the Police, but when they played this show, they were members of a short-lived band called Strontium 90.
Formed by bass player Mike Howlett following his exit from a group called Gong, Strontium 90 was a short-lived group who played a handful of gigs in and around London (they also performed at least once as the Elevators). Though they recorded a...

On balance, Tuesday night's (April 27) episode of "American Idol" didn't end up as strange or terrible as MTV News' Eric Ditzian predicted yesterday. Shania Twain was a roundly excellent mentor (both in the one-on-one segments and during the judging), and none of the songs sounded especially odd or out of place (though the contestants did mostly pick some unusual selections from Twain's back catalog). While the performances themselves were somewhat middling, all told it was a relatively straightforward episode of "American Idol."
You apparently agreed, as "Shania Twain Week" finished a distant fourth in the poll we presented about the weirdest, most head-scratchingly "Huh?" theme weeks in the history of the show. What came in first place? "No Doubt and the Songs That Inspired Gwen Stefani," which took first place with 33 percent of the vote. That show — an entry from season six — was particularly odd mostly because the No Doubt...

Blake Lewis' latest music video for "Sad Song" is released in full on Monday, September 21, one day prior to the official release on his MySpace. The music video is shot as a 1940s film-noir style story about the end of a couple's relationship, highlighted with some 40s-meets-80s style fashion and video editing.
The female lead is played by Casey Carlson who was also an "American Idol" contestant in the recent season 8. Casey only managed to advance to the semi-final round where she stumbled after singing The Police's "Every Little Thing He Does Is Magic". Blake himself was the runner-up of season 6, beaten by Jordin Sparks in the final round.
"Sad Song" is a single lifted from Blake's latest effort "Heartbreak on Vinyl" which will be released in the U.S. on October 6. "[It] is the culmination of over 10 years in the dance scene -- the music that gets me...
