Sky plans to broadcast one new film a week from 2022.
UK pay-tv broadcaster Sky is to launch 30 new Sky Original films this year and will increase this to one a week from 2022 in a bid to become “the best home cinema service in the world”.
It represents a major push into film for the UK pay-tv operator, taking on streaming giants Netflix and Amazon as well as Disney, whose channels were removed from Sky last October following the launch of Disney+.
The plan to launch one original film per week from next year echoes a similar commitment made by Netflix earlier this month.

Family animation is set to bow in 137 sites this weekend.
Sky’s first move into day-and-date ’Original Films’ in UK cinemas will kick off this weekend with family animation Monster Family, set to open in 137 sites this Friday (March 2).
The release will be made available to Sky’s TV customers on the same day as the planned theatrical roll-out via the paid-for subscription package Sky Cinema.
The number of sites programming the film is a record for a day-and-date release in the UK, surpassing the previous benchmark of 120 which was set by 45 Years when it went onto Curzon’s home cinema platform at the same time as its theatrical run.
However, the UK’s three largest multiplex chains, Vue, Odeon and Cineworld - which between them operate around 64% of UK cinema screens - are not programming Monster Family as they continue to adhere to traditional theatrical windows.
Typically, a distributor will have to wait 16-17 weeks to make a...

Actors Kellan Lutz ("Twilight") and Spencer Locke ("Resident Evil") will play the characters 'Tarzan' and 'Jane', based on author Edgar Rice Burrough's book "Tarzan", in Constantin Films' upcoming performance capture movie "Tarzan 3D", to be directed by Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe.
In the new adaptation, Jane is reportedly the daughter of an African guide, committed to the conservation and preservation of the African jungle.
She eventually teams up with Tarzan to defeat the mercenary army of 'Greystoke Energies'.
Tarzan, as first written by Burrough's for a magazine publication in 1912, is regarded as the archetypal feral child raised in the African jungles by the 'Mangani great apes'.
The character's adventures were first published in book form in 1914, followed by twenty-five sequels, three authorized books by other authors, and innumerable works in other media.

Kellan Lutz (photo), best known for playing Emmett Cullen in the Twilight movies, and Resident Evil actress Spencer Locke, will star in the performance-capture 3D movie Tarzan, adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic tale, and to be directed by Animals United’s producers / directors Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe. Needless to say, Lutz will bring Tarzan back to life, while Locke will play Jane. The screenplay was written by Klooss, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs‘ Yoni Brenner and Jessica Postigo, whose sole listed credit on the IMDb is Harald Zwart’s The Mortal Instruments, currently in pre-production. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it updates Burroughs’ story by having Tarzan’s parents killed in a plane crash, the CEO of Greystoke Energies as the film’s chief villain, and Jane as an environmentally conscious heroine. Come to think of it, the first "update" isn’t something really new: Boy’s...

If one Tarzan reboot trilogy wasn’t enough, another adaptation of the classic character is coming to screens. While Warner Bros. works on their version with Craig Brewer (Footloose, Black Snake Moan), Constantin Films is putting together their own update.
THR reports that Twilight and Immortals star Kellan Lutz is set to star as the title character, while Spencer Locke, known for her role in the Resident Evil movies and most recently Joseph Kahn‘s overlooked Detention, is set to play Jane. Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe are teaming to direct the film which will actually be completely motion-capture and in 3D, course.
I don’t enjoy harping on projects right off the bat, but this just sounds like a complete disaster. Without the budget of a major studio, two inexperienced directors are going to command two actors who haven’t quite proven themselves in a 3D, performance capture film?...

"Twilight" star Kellan Lutz and Spencer Locke ("Resident Evil" films) are set to play Tarzan and Jane in the performance capture movie Tarzan 3D , to be directed by Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe. The Constantin Film project updates the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs jungle hero. For example, Tarzan's parents, billionaire adventurers, are now killed in airplane crash rather than being marooned with their child. And the movie's villain is the CEO of Greystoke Energies, a man who took over the company from Tarzan's deceased parents. In the script, Jane is the daughter of an African guide and is committed to the conservation and preservation of the African jungle. She eventually works with Tarzan to defeat the mercenary army of Greystoke Energies.

"Twilight" hunk Kellan Lutz and "Resident Evil" actress Spencer Locke have been cast in a performance-capture 3D feature re-imagining of "Tarzan" for Constantin Film says Heat Vision.
The story updates the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs jungle hero. In this version Tarzan’s parents are billionaire adventurers who are killed in an airplane crash.
Jane Porter meanwhile is the daughter of an African guide and committed to conservation of the African jungle. She eventually works with Tarzan to defeat the mercenary army of Greystoke Energies led by the film's villain - the CEO that took over the company after the death of Tarzan's parents.
Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe are helming from a script by Klooss, Yoni Brenner and Jessica Postigo. Kloos and Robert Kulzer will produce.

Tron: Legacy (PG)
(Joseph Kosinski, 2010, Us) Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde. 125 mins
Less a brand-new vision of the future than an upgrade of the old one, this reboot delivers digital thrills beyond your wildest electric dreams, but ties itself in knots with an analogue-era plot. There's sleek, sexy design, gladiatorial arcade game action and Daft Punk-scored retro styling, but questions pile up as Hedlund seeks to rescue his long-lost Zen-spouting dad (old Jeff Bridges) from Tron-world and its evil techno-führer (young Jeff Bridges).
Burlesque (12A)
(Steve Antin, 2010, Us) Christina Aguilera, Cher, Cam Gigandet. 119 mins
A rags-to-riches showbiz fable that makes Mariah Carey's Glitter look self-effacing and Showgirls avant garde. The mask of Cher presides over a bitchy La club where Aguilera's talent for warbling while modelling frilly lingerie eventually shines through.

If you may recall from the first teaser trailer for Reinhard Klooss & Holger Tappe's upcoming CG animated adaptation of Konferenz der Tiere (translated as "The Animal's Conference"), it paints a serious tone until the very end when a meerkat pops-up and says something in German with a comedic theme playing in the background. The second teaser continues to go in that route with a gag scene where we get to see some characters interaction for the first time. Here's a rough translation of the official synopsis:
Surprised the animals in the African savannah is: Where is the water? Long it should have come through a gorge from the distant mountains. The thirst is getting bigger, the concern also is small considering that the last water hole of fierce buffalo and rhino defended. The brave little meerkat Billy and the peace-loving lion Socrates pull off to check the water. They...

Constantin Film has unveiled the teaser trailer to Die Konferenz der Tiere (translated as "The Animal's Conference"), an upcoming CG animated film co-directed by Reinhard Klooss & Holger Tappe (Impy's Wonderland, Impy's Island) and produced by Ambient Entertainment. Its based on a 1949 children book by Erich Kästner that tells the story about the animals from all over the world banding together to persuade mankind to live in peace and united harmony. There is already an animated film adapted from the book back in 1969. Judging from the trailer, I'm not sure what to expect. Is it a serious drama or a silly comedy?
Coming in 2010. You'll find the teaser embedded below.
