Due to a complex series of anthropological mishaps, the Wayans Brothers are a huge deal in Brazil. Around these parts, White Chicks is considered a national treasure by a lot of people, so it stands to reason that Brazilian audiences would continue to accompany the Wayans’ comedic output long after North America had stopped taking them seriously as comedic titans.
This is the only reason why I originally watched Michael Tiddes and Marlon Wayans’ 2013 horror spoof A Haunted House – appropriately known as “Paranormal Inactivity” in South America – despite having abandoned this kind of movie shortly after the excellent Scary Movie 3. However, to my complete and utter amazement, I found myself mostly enjoying this unhinged parody of Found Footage films almost as much as the iconic spoofs that spear-headed the genre during the 2000s. And with Paramount having recently announced a reboot of the Scary Movie franchise, I think this...

“Abba Zabba, you my only friend!” Imagine they made a Half Baked 2. That sounds like a slam dunk, right? After all, the original didn’t set the box office on fire, but it’s presumably made a mint on home video. Well, it looks like Universal finally pulled the trigger on a Half Baked 2, but of the original cast, the only person to return is Rachel True, who played the love interest, Mary Jane. Yes folks, it happened, and the sequel, Half Baked: Totally High, is going straight to Blu-ray, with an April 16th release date.
All this begs the question, why, twenty-five years later, make a Half Baked sequel without either Dave Chappelle, an infinitely bigger star now than he was in 1998, and Jim Breuer? Chappelle, I kind of get – the man is busy and would probably cost millions and millions to get, but Jim Breuer? Could...

Exclusive: Half Baked 2, the sequel to the 1998 cult comedy, has finished production in Baton Rouge, LA with Rachel True reprising her role as Mary Jane in the Universal 1440 Entertainment title. Also joining the cast is Maze Runner‘s Dexter Darden, as well as Moses Storm, Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), Ash Santos (True Story), Joel Courtney, and David Koechner and his best friends Miles (Storm) and Cori (Young) as they search for the money to bury their other best friend Bruce (Courtney), who died from smoking the most powerful joint in the world. Michael Tiddes directs off a script by Justin Hires. Pic is produced by Griff Furst.
“We are thrilled to announce the next chapter in Half Baked, with new characters and a hilarious story that is sure to satisfy followers of the original film while attracting a whole new generation of fans,” said Glenn Ross, General Manager and Executive Vice President, Universal 1440 Entertainment. “The sequel features a talented young cast alongside Rachel True reprising her role as the fan-favorite ‘Mary Jane.’ We can’t wait to show audiences where the story goes from here.”
Half Baked 2 will debut on non-theatrical platforms worldwide next year from Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. The original 1998 movie, which also starred Dave Chappelle and Jim Breuer, grossed 17.4M at the domestic box office.

Sextuplets, directed by Michael Tiddes, stars Marlon Wayans as not one but six characters in a Peter Seller’s/Eddie Murphy inspired comedy. A feature that not surprisingly plays out more like the Nutty Professor than Dr Strangelove but is nothing like the disaster you would imagine. Sextuplets follows Alan, who is inspired by his pregnant wife, to track down his real family after her Judge father uncovers his original birth certificate. In his efforts, Alan discovers one sibling after another, more absurd and distinctive as time goes on.
Say what you will about Wayans as a performer. However, he and his entertainer family have created an empire of cinematic/television ventures that have shaped a highly successful level of entertainment for audiences.

Once the funniest and most ubiquitous family in Hollywood, the Wayans siblings — Damon, Keenen Ivory, Kim, Shawn and so on — have largely faded from the scene in recent years, leaving youngest brother Marlon (now nearing 50) to carry the mantle. Audiences may not be showing up for sendups like “Scary Movie” and “Dance Flick” like they used to, but Marlon has figured out a foolproof solution: Make lowbrow laffers with search-friendly titles directly for Netflix, and the checks keep rolling in.
First it was “Naked” — a “Groundhog Day”-style infinite-repeat scenario in which Marlon plays a groom who wakes up au naturel on his wedding day, over and over until he gets it right — and now it’s “Sextuplets,” which is the first thing that pops up when you type “S-e-x” into Netflix. In both cases, lonely viewers looking for something spicy will have to settle for a relatively bland and half-baked comedy,...

"Since we hit the road together, I've done things I've only seen on television." Netflix has just launched an official trailer for a new comedy from Marlon Wayans titled Sextuplets, and it looks as awful as it sounds and seems just from that title alone. From the director of the spoofs A Haunted House and Fifty Shades of Black comes a new comedy about an expecting father-to-be who discovers that he has many other siblings and tries to track them down before his baby is born. This is a spoof on, another comedy, maybe? But who cares, it looks terrible. Marlon Wayans stars in the lead role, and plays all the other siblings, much like Tyler Perry does in his movies. The cast also includes Molly Shannon, Glynn Turman, Bresha Webb, Debbi Morgan, and Michael Ian Black. Why do they still make these kind of movies? It looks so, so bad.

Marlon Wayans of White Chicks fame, is set to star in a new Netflix comedy called Sextuplets and he will play six different characters in the film! Wayans is known for his silly comedy movie work, so it's not surprising to see him take on a project like this. Here are the story details:
Sextuplets tells the story of Alan (Wayans), a man embarking on a personal journey to meet his birth mother before the arrival of his first child. When Alan meets his brother, Russell, he discovers that he was born a sextuplet and decides to seek out his four other siblings (all played by Wayans). Together, the two brothers set out on a road trip to track down the rest of the family that they’ve never known, and Alan quickly realizes he may have gotten more than he bargained for.

(Aotn) There’s something about some of Marlon Wayans’ career choices this decade that could understandably be seen as “frustrating.” The youngest of the Wayans brothers has demonstrated a great knack for physical comedy (the first two entries in the Scary Movie franchise and even the goofy yet riotous White Chicks) and an equally impressive potential as a serious actor (his dramatic turn in Requiem for a Dream), but his latest – the declining Haunted House movies and the abysmal Fifty Shades of Black, which actually managed to make the series it’s spoofing look like Last Tango in Paris by comparison – are a an embarrassing nose dive in comedic standard. Enter Michael Tiddes’ Naked, not the 1993 Cannes winner by Mike Leigh, Netflix’s latest comedic offering and a breath of stale air that actually manages to find a hint of freshness and showcase some of the good qualities of Mr.

For many, Groundhog Day qualifies as a near-perfect comedy. Apparently, though, there are some highly motivated people out there who think it’d be a whole lot funnier if the guy stuck in the endless time loop were constantly running around with his bare ass exposed and his hands covering his junk. Back in 2000, Swedish brothers Mårten and Torkel Knutsson tested this theory with their film Naken, in which protagonist Anders relives the same hour leading up to his wedding, over and over, waking up nude in an elevator each time the loop resets. Nobody liked Naken much, but Marlon Wayans seems to have decided that the problem lay in the execution, not in the conception—and to have further decided that he and director Michael Tiddes, with whom he’d previously collaborated on the critically reviled A Haunted House and Fifty Shades Of Black, could succeed where the ...

"I'm freakin' out!" Netflix has unveiled a trailer for a goofy comedy titled Naked, another new time loop film (in addition to two others this year alone - Before I Fall and Happy Death Day). From the director of the parody comedy A Haunted House, Marlon Wayans stars in Naked as a guy about to be married, who ignores his responsibilities and spends the night before the wedding partying with a friend. He wakes up naked in an elevator and must relive the next hour until he gets things right on his wedding day. Yeah, what a unique concept. The full ensemble cast features Regina Hall, Dennis Haysbert, Scott Foley, Loretta Devine, Neil Brown Jr., Dave Sheridan, Megan Messmer, Jonathan Todd Jackson, and Cory Hardrict. As much as I usually enjoy time loop films, this one looks pretty bad. Doubt I'll be watching this. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Michael Tiddes' Naked,...

As we head into the thick of awards season, it’s time to celebrate all the incredible films that 2016 brought us. La La Land, Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, Deadpool and Arrival will no doubt find themselves on the lips of many moviegoers over the next few weeks, while talent like Amy Adams, Casey Affleck, Emma Stone, Adam Driver and Denzel Washington, among others, will also start picking up some serious buzz.
But, as the best of the best start to take up most of the spotlight, there’s another another awards ceremony gearing up to get underway, and it’ll be celebrating very different types of movies and actors/actresses. We are, of course, referring to the Razzie Awards, which shine a light on the worst that the year had to offer. It only took a year: here's the spoof take on 50 Shades Of Grey. Chortle.
When Scary Movie came out back in 2000, some remarked that the sleeper hit horror parody was spoofing a satire by drawing inspiration and iconography from Scream, which Wes Craven intended as a trope-riddled satire of the genre. Nevertheless, four sequels and a slew of other parody movies (mostly by 'two of the six writers', Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg) followed and have served to run the art of cinematic parody into the ground over the last 15 years.
Fifty Shades Of Black hasn't been anywhere near as big a hit for co-writer and star Marlon Wayans as Scary Movie was, although it's arguably in a similar situation as that first breakout hit. Many of us (this reviewer included) felt that last year's E.L. James adaptation Fifty Shades Of Grey was already hilarious by accident,...

Open Road Films is throwing its weight behind "Fifty Shades of Black," a parody, of course, of "Fifty Shades of Grey." Scheduled to shoot this Summer in Los Angeles, the spoof reunites bankable funny man Marlon Wayans with director Michael Tiddes, whose "A Haunted House" franchise was also backed by Open Road. What should we expect from this film? Well, "Fifty Shades of Grey" and its ridiculous and kinky and cold-souled sex scenarios screamed parody from the start when the film arrived on Valentine's Day this year. Its spoof-ability was all but baked into E.L. James' novel, which was about as sexy as a car crash. Wayans and crew should have a blast eviscerating this property. He penned the "Fifty Shades" spoof with his longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez. The project was shopped on the Cannes market and, according to Deadline, almost went to The Weinstein Company. "Fifty Shades of...

“Fifty Shades of Grey” parody “Fifty Shades of Black,” a comedy written by Marlon Wayans (“Scary Movie”), has been acquired by Open Road Films for U.S. distribution. The project spoofing the Universal box office hit starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson reunites the team behind the “A Haunted House” franchise, including director Michael Tiddes. Breaking: Open Road acquired U.S. rights to Fifty Shades Of Black, the Marlon Wayans comedy that Im Global is producing and funding. I’m told final bidding came down to The Weinstein Company and Relativity, and that Open Road paid a $5 million minimum guarantee and committed to a wide January 29, 2016 release date. It helped that Open Road worked with Wayans and Im Global on the Michael Tiddes-directed A Haunted House. Tiddes is directing this as well. The announcement…...

Five days into the new year and the movie awards season is in full swing. A chance to celebrate all of the cinematic gold bestowed upon us by filmmakers over the last 365 days, the majority of awards bodies veer towards the positive. The good, the great and the outstanding movie achievements. Of course, you can’t have yin without yang, and that customary glint of deviousness amidst the showers of compliments will soon be upon us, in the shape of the The Annual Golden Raspberry Awards.
Known informally as The Razzies, the achievements are dished out based on how bad the category nominees performed, and this year’s nominees have now been announced. Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways To Die In The West beat out its closest competitors for the esteemed honour of most nominations with a whopping eight altogether. Recent limelight comedy, The Interview, also snagged four nominations across three categories.

Marlon Wayans is back with another spoof of the horror genre, but it's one that's really, really not worth your time...
Just when you thought it was safe to go back onto movie theaters, Marlon Wayans is back and taking aim at the horror genre yet again with yet another spoof movie. Malcolm Johnson (Marlon Wayans) survived the events of A Haunted House, and a year after the possession of Kisha (Essence Adkins), he's found a new girlfriend named Megan (Jaime Pressly) and he's moved into a fancy new house in the suburbs with Megan's children Becky (Ashley Rickards) and Wyatt (Steele Stebbins).
As it turns out, you can't kill your problems in a car wreck, even if your problem is a possessed woman. Malcolm moves into his new house and the problems immediately start. There's a creepy doll, a box that drives Becky insane,...

A Haunted House 2 is not a movie. It is a nervous breakdown. Directed by Michael Tiddes but largely the handiwork of star, producer, and co-writer Marlon Wayans, the film is being billed as yet another Wayans-ized spoof of the horror movie genre, à la the first Haunted House movie and the wildly successful Scary Movie series. (Keenen Ivory Wayans and his brothers were responsible for the first two Scary Movie films; they have since left that franchise, which may explain why a new one was needed.) And there are some familiar digs at recent horror flicks: This time, the creepy doll and the closet from The Conjuring, the family-murdering demon from Sinister, and the dybbuk box from The Possession all make appearances. But this new film is mostly an excuse for star Marlon Wayans to have extended freak-outs in response to the horrors visited upon him — shrieking, screaming,...

When did "spoof" become such a dirty word? There once was a time when filmmakers like Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein) and brilliant comedians like the late Leslie Nielsen (Airplane!, The Naked Gun) mastered the art of parody. Chicago – The parody industry that the Wayans comedy machine has generated has provided big laughs and big box office for years. In 2013, Marlon Wayans launched another series, with “A Haunted House.” Faster than the fastest green light, that success led to ‘A Haunted House 2.’
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Moving to a personal note, I absolutely despised the first film, mostly because I felt that (writer) Wayans relied on tired gags and a strange, misogynistic attitude toward women in that film. But it’s nice to report that “A Haunted House 2” was much better, the gags were sharper (and weirder) and the supporting cast was stronger. While the anything-for-a-laugh pacing that Wayans practices will never get a Mark Twain Award, “A Haunted House 2” is bizarre spoof – especially of last year’s horror epic “The Conjuring” – that effectively elicits some guffaws for a night at the movies.
The film begins at the end of the last film,...

Chicago – Marlon Wayans will do practically anything for a laugh, and that is to the audience’s advantage in the sequel to last year’s smash comedy, “A Haunted House 2.” Joining him for the second go around is hot comic Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias and the reliable Affion Crockett, who is reprising his role as Cousin Ray Ray.
‘A Haunted House 2’ was given the green light after the success of last year’s “A Haunted House.” Marlon Wayans – with his writing partner Rick Alvarez – has formulated another spoof regarding the latest horror films, in this case mostly from last year’s “The Conjuring.” Wayans, who is also part of the Wayans Brothers comedy family, leaves no hilarious stone unturned as he sends up all of the weird elements of that film, and his on-screen supporting cast brings great improvisation and comic timing to the mix.

It would appear that 2013's most vexing question — "What can we, as a nation, do to prevent A Haunted House 2 from happening?" — has been definitively answered.
Maybe it's just as well, since 2014 is seeing the release of two movies in the Paranormal Activity franchise, so why shouldn't its direct spoof series try to keep up?
It may be a low bar, but Michael Tiddes's A Haunted House 2 is actually an improvement over its predecessor. Though it's still a hodgepodge, it's a more finely-tuned hodgepodge, like Marlon Wayans and the producers were more selective when editing the down the hours of improvisation.

In A Haunted House 2, Jaime Pressly plays Megan – the lighter side of an interracial couple with more than the usual problems. A mother of two, she and her kids move in with Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) – but little does she know his possessed ex-girlfriend Kisha (Essence Atkins) is living right next door...
And there’s nothing worse than a scorned demonic woman.
Pressly is no stranger to the horror genre (her first starring role was in the straight to video sequel to Poison Ivy, back in 1997), but she’s mostly known for comedy (the actress won two Emmys for her performance as Joy in "My Name Is Earl") – so what could be more perfect than mixing the two for A Haunted House 2?
We had a chance to sit down with Ms. Pressly at a press junket in Beverly Hills and get the scary scoop, 1:1.
