This Tuesday we had a chance to listen to the comedy trio known as Lonely Island as they spoke to us about their upcoming rap music spoof, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. The three, Andy Samberg and his pals and costars Jorma Taccone and Avika Schaffer (who also directed and produced the movie), appeared ill at ease at times talking about their success and inspirations, but seem genuinely dedicated to their work.
The upcoming film is shot mockumentary style, and centers on a self-absorbed rap star, Calvin 4Real (played by Samberg), as he attempts to make it solo after separating from his band. The comedy troupe told us that, with the movie, they wanted to explore how “social media and the number of outlets has changed the landscape of the industry.” They also sought to question how genuine the relationships between musicians and their fans are these days.

Who’s the real emotional fluffer here — Nick or Liz Meriwether? With another week of delicious back-and-forth between Nick and Jess, another delay until their ultimate get-together, and yet the first outright admission that the two goofballs are actually into each other, we’re left primed and ready. Only… Jess had Sam for follow-through, Nick had the Digital Underground and shoddy furniture to sublimate all over, and what do we have? Schmidt, I suppose. Can’t we all use a bit of “Tugg time”? In truth, I did enjoy how the writers faced their biggest bogeyman head-on — though I’m...

Who: Wallpaper's Ricky Reed: the North Oakland party boy redefining pop music one dirty club song at a time. Reed describes himself as a "sleazy, excess-obsessed, disco-ball busting crowd destroyer." He's kind of like Justin Timberlake on sizzurp.
Years in the Bay Area: Life.
Current Gig: Born Eric Frederic (but according to his publicist #RickyReedIsReal), Ricky Reed became a local sensation for his catchy songs and irreverent lyrics that poke fun at pop culture. (Choruses include "text me your love so I know it's true" and "I'm not just anybody; I slept with a celebrity.")
But with the release of party jams "Fucking Best Song Everrr" and "STUPiDFACEDD," Reed skyrocketed into the mainstream, signing with Epic Records, the same label released Michael Jackson's "Thriller." While his new songs have certainly been polished, his funky surrealism and sense of humor remains.

In ‘celebration’ of the release of Adam Sandler’s latest comedy Jack & Jill (which is already out in the Us, alas UK readers will have to wait until February 3rd, but at least then you can take your loved ones to it on Valentine’s Day!), I thought I’d take a look at 10 other films I am baffled ever got the green light. I mean, watching the trailer for Jack & Jill one might think it was a deleted scene from the film Funny People in which Sandler mocked the kind of ridiculous high concept comedies that he is so often guilty of making. We thought after pushing them to extremes with spoof clips in that movie which included Sandler’s head magicked onto a baby’s body, it seemed like Sandler was both affectionately lampooning some of his early career decisions and also putting to rest that kind of...

This is only the second time in my life I have actually wanted to crawl into myself and die. The first time was Michael Jackson's death, but that was because I was sad. This is just because I'm so goddamn furious that I'm about to cry, fart, poop, orgasm, burp, and scream all at the same time. Are we really watching a dead guy's sex tape?
Here's the exact article from TMZ because I honestly can't:
A five-minute sex tape showing Tupac receiving oral sex while rapping and dancing has surfaced ... and TMZ has seen it.
The tape, shot in 1991, begins with a bunch of groupies in a living room during a house party. Tupac walks into the room with his pants down to his ankles, his shirt off ... sporting several chains.
Tupac -- whose head is shaved -- pulls one of the women toward him, and she begins performing oral sex.

London, Oct 4: Late rapper Tupac Shakur's sex tape has surfaced 15 years after his death.
According to TMZ.com, the five minutes footage sees the rapper engaged in a sex act with a female fan and is said to have been shot in 1991.
The website claims that the person who possesses the tape is planning to release it, the Daily Mail reported.
The rapper is reportedly seen dancing during the act to one of his unreleased songs in a house party, holding a cocktail in one hand and an apparent marijuana joint in the other.

TMZ is reporting that a sex tape has been found featuring an undead Tupac Shakur getting a rhymes-with-glow-bob (bl*w job) from some groupies while Simultaneously rapping and dancing. The man was truly a talent… rapping and receiving oral is Olympic worthy. But it actually gets better: And it gets even better. As the woman services Tupac, who is holding a cocktail in one hand and a blunt in another, Money B from Digital Underground walks over to him. Tupac puts his cocktail arm around Money B, continues singing and dancing … and the woman never stops. As the tape ends it appears he’s ready to begin sexual intercourse. Wow. This is quite the way to come back from the grave, with a sex tape exhibit the fact that your brain and penis were clearly hundreds of years ahead of our time. Then we started thinking… why stop with Tupac?...

People often joke that late rap legend Tupac Shakur is still alive; this stems from Tupac's extensive back catalog allowing for the continued release of new material. However, Tupac is about to make a release of a more salacious kind.
According to TMZ, a 1991 sex tape featuring Shakur and a number of female groupies has surfaced. The tape features Shakur engaged in a sex act with one of the females while dancing to one of his songs. Later, Tupac has a conversation with Money B from Digital Underground while the sex act is still occurring.
TMZ reports that the person in possession of the tape is planning to release it.

The release of Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, one of the most hotly-anticipated albums of the year. The 13-track LP completes something of a comeback narrative for West that began with the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards (when he was ostracized for crashing the stage during a Taylor Swift acceptance speech and went underground for a while) and was built up over the course of the past year with some key live performances, the "G.O.O.D. Friday" download series and the recently-released short film "Runaway." In fact, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is so dense and full of gems that it's necessary to take each song and break it down to its bare elements. This time around, we take a look at the references on "Devil in a New Dress."

Back in 2002, R. Kelly dropped Best of Both Worlds, an album length collaboration that put him side by side with Jay-z. The album represented a collision between one of the top performers, songwriters and producers in R&B with the most dominant Mc in the game (Jay was coming off the success of The Blueprint, a true turning point in his career). Though it was hotly anticipated, the album was considered a bit of a disappointment, if only because of the high level of talent involved. And even though there was a second volume of collaborations (2004's Unfinished Business), their collaboration never ended up being as big as it probably should have.
As it turns out, the tag-team with Jay-z wasn't necessarily meant to be. In an interview with Xxl magazine, Kels admitted that the Best of Both Worlds concept was originally meant to be a collaboration between himself and Tupac.

Justin Timberlake gave late night U.S. TV viewers a treat on Wednesday, September 29 when he joined funnyman Jimmy Fallon for a surprise medley of hip-hop hits. The singer-turned-actor appeared on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" to promote his new movie "The Social Network", and he heaped praise on Fallon's house band, The Roots.
The pair then began reminiscing about hip-hop icons such as The Sugarhill Gang - and suddenly broke out into song, trading lyrics from their classic "Rapper's Delight" before moving on to cover other rap hits, including Digital Underground's "Humpty Hump", Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang", Eminem's "My Name Is" and Kanye West's "Gold Digger", as The Roots played back-up.
The impromptu concert ended with the pair trading lines from Jay-z's "Empire State of Mind" as they leaped into the aisles of the studio audience, bringing the crowd...

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon really put house band The Roots to work last night as the pair tackled bits and bobs of hip-hop pop history. The former was on Fallon's "Late Night" on NBC to promote "The Social Network," but we all know it was ample opportunity for both personalities to do some impressions -- of rappers from Sugarhill Gang and Digital Underground's Humpty Hump to Dre and Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott to Soulja Boy to T.I. and then, naturally, shining the bit off with Jay-z's "Empire State of Mind." Timberlake may be taking a break from working on his...

At this point it just feels like Justin Timberlake is teasing us. Following up on the "SNL" skit last weekend, in which he refused to answer questions about when he's going to make another album, Timberlake dropped by Jimmy Fallon's "Late Night" on Wednesday night to talk up "The Social Network" and ended up providing further proof that one of the great music talents of our time is seriously holding out on us.
After Timberlake gave major props to house band the Roots and Fallon teased the bespectacled singer about his historical knowledge of hip-hop, Justin mentioned that 'Nsync once asked legendary hip-hop crew the Sugarhill Gang to open up one of the boy band's shows back in the day. That inspired Fallon to ask the band (spontaneously, of course) to serve up a taste of Sugarhill's classic "Rapper's Delight."

The Tupac Shakur biopic is finally crawling out of the depths of development hell. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Brooklyn’s Finest) was previously named as the film’s director. Recently, Stephen J. Rivele and Chris Wilkinson were hired to draft the screenplay. Rivele and Wilinson are an Oscar-nominated writing team known for their work on Ali and Nixon. There was a previous draft that was more documentary-like, but Rivele and Wilkinson claim that their script will not be “in any way biopic-y”. The new script will take place on the last day of Tupac’s life, with events from his last four years being referenced in flashbacks. This will probably result in a more unique film, but will sadden those (such as myself), who were hoping for a Humpty Hump cameo in a scene referencing Tupac’s days as a backup dancer and rapper with Digital Underground.

If, by chance, you happen to read something Thursday (April 1) about Led Zeppelin reuniting or Jim Morrison coming out of hiding, don't believe it. As you're probably aware, it's April Fools' Day, and these kinds of things have a way of happening. Why, on this very day last year, Kid Rock announced he had acquired the naming rights to the Detroit Tigers' stadium, and Coldplay declared they were recording their next album in zero gravity.
Of course, none of it ended up being true, and both acts added their names to the ever-growing list of some of music's greatest tricksters. It seems that bands have been at this kind of thing for decades now, so we figured that now was as good...

I couldn’t tell you who’s hot right now in the world of hip-hop. Jay-z? The hip-hop I listen to is that the same stuff I used to blast from my burgundy Pontiac Grand-Am coupe with the tinted windows and spoiler, in the mid-90s, during my college days. I’m talking, Public Enemy, Bdp, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Gang Starr, Epmd, Dr Dre, Digital Underground, Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah, Wu-Tang Clan, and on and on and on… Their music still trumps much of what I’ve heard since they all got older and became less visible.
So, looking over the below list, put together by Black Book magazine, of “The Most Slept On Rap Albums of 2009,” it was encouraging to see that 3 of the 5 titles are from members of the Wu-Tang clan – specifically, Raekwon, Method Man, and Ghostface Killer – although I’ll be honest and...

I graduated from elementary school in June of 1990. Almost immediately after, my Dad—who worked for Digital Computers—switched from manufacturing to sales, and my family moved from Marlboro, Mass., to Alpharetta, Ga. I'd already gotten into a little bit of rap music while I was still in New England, listening to more poppy stuff like DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Tone Loc, Young Mc, LL Cool J, and even a little Digital Underground. But when I got to Georgia and started at Taylor Road Middle School (which I attended from August 1990 to June 1993), I met some new friends who introduced me to some much harder stuff. Really, though, we liked the whole spectrum—from Will Smith to Luther Campbell and everything in between.
