Until recently, Andy Mitchell’s closest brush with Hollywood came in “The Queen of Versailles,” the 2012 documentary about the collapse of a timeshare empire.
The film centered on David Siegel, founder of Westgate Resorts, and his struggles to get out from under crushing debt. Mitchell did not appear in the film, but he was among the debtholders putting the screws to Siegel. His company ultimately took control of Siegel’s timeshare tower in Las Vegas.
For Mitchell, it was a fairly typical assignment. The timeshare firm was a badly damaged asset, and it needed someone to roll up his sleeves and get dirty.
Mitchell, 42, is now taking on an even bigger mess: The Weinstein Co. Mitchell’s firm, Lantern Capital, is poised to acquire the bankrupt mini-studio for $310 million in cash, plus $115 million in project-based debt. A bankruptcy judge may sign off on the transaction as soon as May 8.

In a stunning development that proves the gender pay gap still exists, Marissa Mayer’s male replacement as Yahoo CEO will make double her salary, according to an offer letter filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) this week. Thomas McInerney is set to control Altaba, the re-branded version of Yahoo, and will make $2 million per year. Mayer has a current base salary of $1 million, according to Newsweek. But don’t feel too bad for Mayer, as her salary is a small fraction of her total compensation package — and she will leave Yahoo with a $23 million golden parachute if and when the.

Family is important. So, as part of the #LetsTalk Tour, Rob Lowe sat down with Tom McInerney, the CEO of Genworth, to discuss the importance of a long-term care policy that looks out for you and your entire family.
Naturally, Lowe shared some funny anecdotes from his career as an entertainer, but that wasn't really the point. The actor realizes the importance of having a long-term care plan for him and his family, and he wants to get everyone talking about it before the options narrow.
After the more serious conversations, Lowe switched to the lighter side and shared a few of his favorite comedies with us -- and they aren't meant for the entire family.
Here are five comedies you probably shouldn't watch with your parents. (But feel free to try.)...

Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.
First, we have the Ves, whose main category to look at is “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture,” where we find Gravity and four other nominees that are just going to have to be happy with the fact that they got nominated. This is perhaps the easiest category to call in the entirety of awards season, and I don’t mean just here, but for the Oscar as well (Last year’s winner, Life of Pi, easily took this category before going on to claim the Oscar). It’s true that films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek Into Darkness had outstanding effects as well, but nothing even came close to the amazing,...

LONDON -- Tom Collins' Irish-language movie "Kings" has scooped a regal 14 nominations in the race for the fifth annual Irish Film and Television Awards.
Presented by the Irish Film and Television Academy, "Kings" took the most nominations ahead of its closest challenger, Lenny Abrahamson's "Garage", which scored 11.
Both "Kings" and "Garage" will compete for the top film award alongside Julian Jarrold's Jane Austen biopic "Becoming Jane", Richard Attenborough's Northern Irish film "Closing the Ring" and Paddy Breathnach's horror film "Shrooms".

Colm Meaney ("Kings") and Pat Shortt ("Garage") will battle it out with Cillian Murphy ("Sunshine"), Gabriel Byrne ("Jindabyne") and Hugh O'Conor ("Speed Dating") for the lead actor nod.
"Garage" director Abrahamson and the film's writer, Mark O'Halloran, also each have a second nomination in the director TV and script for television categories, respectively, for the RTE drama "Prosperity", which garnered a total of five television category nominations.
In the television categories, TG4's Irish-language series "The Running Mate" scored eight nominations, as has TV3's primetime period drama "The Tudors". Both titles also have strong acting nominations, including Denis Conway, Don Wycherley and Jonathan Rhys Meyers for the prestigious lead actor television award.
"It has been another strong year for Irish talent with world-class Irish production, and IFTA Academy Members have selected titles across a very interesting mix of genres and styles with the Irish language a strong feature coming through this year across both film and television," IFTA CEO Aine Moriarty said.
