The Game is over, for a second time. Paramount+ has cancelled the revival series, so there are no plans for a third season, at least on the streaming service.
A sequel to the original 2006-15 comedy series, The Game was executive produced by original series creator Mara Brock Akil, showrunner and writer Devon Greggory, Salim Akil, and original executive producer Kelsey Grammer and Tom Russo.
The show stars legacy cast members Wendy Raquel Robinson and Hosea Chanchez, with new players Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, Adriyan Rae, Vaughn Hebron, and Analisa Velez. The series features a mix of the original cast and new players to offer a modern examination of Black culture through the prism of pro football. The characters tackle racism, sexism, classism, and more as they fight for fame, fortune, respect, and love.

When a new season of The Game arrives on Paramount+, it'll do so with much of the original cast intact. The show, which premiered in 2006 on The CW, moved to BET in 2011 before getting canceled in 2015. The streaming era gave way to Paramount+ green-lighting a 10th season that'll serve as a reboot of sorts, but there will be some very noticeable differences. When The Game debuted, it starred Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall. However, the two left the show after season five, only making a brief reappearance in the last season. When the show picks back up on Paramount+ on Nov. 11, Hall will be back, but Mowry won't.
In The Game, Mowry played Melanie Barnett, a medical student who gave up her chance to attend Johns Hopkins to instead follow her football-playing boyfriend, Derwin, played by Hall, to San Diego. Her character was central to the plot, so much so...

It’s third time’s the charm for The Game as the dramedy starring Hosea Chanchez and Wendy Raquel Robinson nears its premiere on Paramount+, after previous runs on the CW and BET.
During Paramount+’s TCA presentation Tuesday, it was revealed that The Game is set to kick off Thursday, November 11. Showrunner and writer Devon Greggory spoke on the panel about bringing back the Girlfriends spinoff, created by Mara Brock Akil, for a modern-day examination of racism, sexism, classism and more.
“We’re going to come deep with some deep issues because 2021 is different than 2008,” he said.
Instead of San Diego, The Game returns to Las Vegas and centers on Black culture through the prism of pro football. The team will tackle a number of social issues and more as they fight for fame, fortune, respect and love—all while trying to maintain their souls as they each play The Game.

CBS All Access is trading in CBS for Paramount. ViacomCBS revealed Tuesday that the rebranded streaming service will be called Paramount+ beginning early next year.
The rebranding is the second, and much bigger, phase of the two-phase expansion of CBS All Access, which first launched in 2014 and was among the earliest entrants in the streaming space. Paramount+ will also heavily increase upon CBS All Access’ original series output, which included five new orders on Tuesday, highlighted by a revival of...
