So, we were expecting something of a cliffhanger heading into Virgin River Season 5 Part 1 finale, “Labor Day.” But we still weren’t prepared for what happened in the episode’s final moments, and how it changed things for one key character.

Welcome back to Virgin River. Season 5 of the Netflix drama premieres Sept. 7, and hopefully, it answers all our questions about what’s next for Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), Jack (Martin Henderson), Brady (Ben Hollingsworth), Brie (Zibby Allen), and the rest of the residents of Virgin River. Season 4 featured plenty of dramatic twists and a few unresolved cliffhangers. Here’s where things stand heading into the show’s two-part fifth season.
Jack is – and isn’t – the father
Virgin River Season 3 ended with Mel’s surprise pregnancy. But she wasn’t sure if she got pregnant from one last round of IVF with her dead husband’s embryos or if she conceived with her new beau, Jack. At first, Jack was hesitant to do paternity testing. He feared that if the baby wasn’t his, he’d feel differently about becoming a father. But eventually, he changed his mind and agreed to do the testing,...

Virgin River Season 5 is coming to Netflix on Sept. 7. But don’t expect series star Alexandra Breckenridge or the rest of the cast to be talking up the new episodes in interviews or on social media. That’s because actors aren’t allowed to promote their projects while on strike.
Thousands of actors have been striking since July 14 Actors on the picket line in August 2023 in New York City | John Nacion/Getty Images
Roughly 65,000 actors and other performers walked off the job on July 14 after their union, SAG-AFTRA, failed to come to an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. AMPTP represents major film and TV studios and producers, including Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, and NBCUniversal.
Actors want pay increases and a bump in the residuals they receive from streaming movies and TV shows. They’re also advocating for more guidelines around the use of artificial intelligence and better working conditions.

It's been a year since Virgin River Season 4 concluded with multiple cliffhangers on Netflix.
With a confirmed premiere date for Virgin River Season 5 still Mia, the streaming service dropped many photos Tuesday morning, teasing coming events for the Alexandra Breckenridge drama.
Virgin River Season 4 Episode 12 wrapped with Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) dropping the mother of all bombshells by revealing that Jack (Martin Henderson) is not the father of her twins.
Naturally, fans had questions about whether this revelation would spell the end of Hammersley's tenure on the series.
The first batch of photos doesn't confirm or deny whether Charmaine will still be a part of the narrative, so we'll have to tune in whenever the series returns.
It's unclear how Charmaine's betrayal will affect Jack because he's been desperately trying to be in his ex-girlfriend's life, despite his undying love for Mel (Breckenridge).

On Wednesday, Netflix's first formal Upfronts presentation brought some exciting news for fans of the streaming service's most beloved shows.
Ginny & Georgia, which has been in limbo since January, has secured a pickup for two more seasons, keeping the show on the air through what will likely be the fourth -- and final -- season.
In an exclusive post-mortem interview in January, then-showrunner Debra J. Fisher teased that she and series creator Sarah Lampert had mapped out a four-season run for the show.
The renewal announcement's delay is shocking, especially considering the show has been a strong performer for Netflix.
However, the streaming service confirmed that Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: Next Class) will take over as showrunner from Fisher.
There is no reason for the switcheroo, but fans will be happy knowing the show is returning.
Ginny & Georgia Season 2 concluded with countless cliffhangers, including Georgia being arrested for murder.

Thankfully, the cast is hard at work on the forthcoming fifth season, which will feature the 50th episode.
Martin Henderson, who plays Jack on the soapy drama, took to Instagram earlier this month to celebrate.
"We just completed shooting the 50th episode of Virgin River. Who knew we'd all still be here telling this wholesome love story for the ages?" the star wrote.
"Big congrats to our extremely hard-working crew and our talented delightful cast for always striving to make this the best for you incredibly passionate and oh-so-discerning audience.
"We do it all for you!! Thank you for watching, maybe we'll make at least 50 more!! #virginriver @netflix #50episodes #happyhalfcentury."
Henderson previously dished some goodies about Virgin River Season 5 to Glamour.

Virgin River has been a huge hit for Netflix since its launch in 2019.
The romantic drama landed a two-season renewal last year, keeping it on the air through its fifth season.
With Virgin River Season 4 recently wrapped, there have been questions about whether the show will end with its fifth season.
Netflix tends to end shows before they get to a fifth season, unless they are global hits.
Thankfully, Jinny Howe, the Netflix drama head sees "longevity and growth" ahead, meaning that there's a good chance the show will continue for a sixth season.
However, Howe wants the show to continue "as long as the audience asks for it and shows up."
“We see with Season 4 that the fandom is very strong and growing in many places as well,” Howe told Deadline.
“It feels like, based on what we’re seeing with Season 4 and the anticipation for Season 5, that there...

Mel's medical scare was just that, a minor scare and some cramping.
But the incident prompted Mel to address her genuine concerns with Jack and his drinking on Virgin River Season 4 Episode 7. And that's overdue and a natural progression for these two to explore.
Yes, the couple is in it for the long haul, but there is nothing easy about their relationship right now.
Things got scary for Mel when she needed to call Doc and seek help from him and stated that Jack was passed out drunk during this emergency.
It put some things in perspective for Mel, and if she was willing to overlook some of her concerns about Jack before, the scare changed that.
Jack is one of the most reliable people, but his drinking makes him the opposite to her, and they spend the rest of the hour addressing this issue between them.
Jack doesn't believe he has a problem,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Virgin River Season 4.] Like the previous three seasons, the fourth of Virgin River is an emotional rollercoaster, but it looks like nothing could have prepared Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) for the shocking announcement that ends it. First, in happy news: The couple is finally engaged and Mel’s baby is Jack’s. But the season ends in a cliffhanger (thankfully it’s already been renewed!): Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) calls, upset. When they find her, she’s having trouble breathing, and as they await an ambulance, she reveals that her twins aren’t actually Jack’s. TV Insider caught up with Breckenridge to discuss those big moments and more. We have to talk about that Charmaine twist at the end. We only see Jack’s shock when she reveals he’s not the twins’ father. How’s Mel feeling? It’s a betrayal, right? Given they were...

The official trailer for season 4 of “Virgin River,” the Netflix romantic drama based on the novels of Robyn Carr, has been released.
“Virgin River” stars Alexandra Breckenridge as Melinda Monroe, a nurse practitioner who accepts a job offer to move from Los Angeles to the titular North Carolina small town. The show follows Melinda as she adjusts to small town life and gets involved with romantic drama, particularly involving local restaurant owner Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).
The Season 4 trailer picks off where Season 3 left off, with Melinda pregnant and unsure whether or not the baby is Jack’s or if the father is her late husband Mark (Daniel Gillies). The question causes strain in the two’s relationship, especially with Melinda eager to find out who the father is, while Jack tries to dissuade her from taking a paternity test.
In addition to Breckenridge and Henderson, the series also stars Colin Lawrence,...

Looks can be deceiving.
When we first ventured to Virgin River in 2019, we followed Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) as she adjusted to small-town life.
You wouldn't believe anything bad ever happened in Virgin River, but each season has gotten progressively darker and more dramatic.
Netflix dropped the first trailer for Virgin River Season 4 on Friday.
The beloved series returns July 20 for its biggest season yet.
We're getting 12 new episodes, and the official trailer gives us plenty of teases about what to expect.
Unfortunately, things aren't looking up for any of the characters.
So much has happened, and the series seems intent on spinning more yarns of drama.
"Despite not knowing whether her baby belongs to her deceased husband, Mark or Jack, Mel begins Season Four with a sense of optimism," the official synopsis reads.
"For years she yearned to be a mother and her dream is one step closer to reality,...
