Their only hope lies with an Air Force drone pilot as the eyes in the sky during a brutal 48-hour battle for survival in the jungle. Whether helping to contain a demonic presence alongside John Jarratt and Lincoln Lewis in Chris Sun's 'The Possessed', or serving up a memorable cameo in Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner brothers’ zombie action-thriller 'Wyrmwood: Apocalypse', Lauren Grimson has never shied away from showcasing her talents in horror.

Australian director Chris Sun is known for his violent, frequently quite viciously so, genre films such as Charlie’s Farm and Boar. The Possessed however marks his first attempt at a supernatural film, and it’s based on the allegedly true exploits of Mark Gardener who claims to be able to perform exorcisms, he calls them “clearings”, and free people from demonic possession. Of course, I don’t believe Gardener’s claims, but hopefully, it’s at least an entertaining bit of bullshit.
The Possessed certainly opens on a promising note, with a man dragging a woman from a bathtub full of blood. This is Jacob and the woman is his wife Carissa and she’s just tried to kill herself again while possessed. Jacob casts the demon out, but it appears and whispers something...

There’s a reason I said this film was a throwback at the start of this review, you see Black Site feels very much like a product of a different time, well at least the script does. There are quips thrown into people’s dialogue that hark back to the...

Don Groves is a Deadline contributor based in Sydney Yesterday, Deadline posted a Funny Or Die video made by American actor Brian Guest in response to the proliferation of Australian actors being cast in broadcast pilots this season. His “agent” tells him at one point in the video, “You’re doing great work, you’re just not Australian.” As Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva pointed out, this has been a sore topic for Hollywood talent agents and their American-born clients this season as the nets bet heavily on actors from Down Under. So what’s all the hubbub about? At least 23 Aussies have been cast in pilots this season, an unprecedented number. Some are unfamiliar commodoties Stateside like Luke Mitchell, Bob Morley, Chris Egan, Lincoln Lewis, Rick Donald and Luke Bracey, who were all regulars on the Seven network’s long-running TV soap Home And Away. Others are established names like Miranda Otto,...

Rebecca De Mornay and Nick Westrate have been cast as leads in NBC’s hourlong pilot Hatfields & McCoys, a take on the infamous feud set in present-day Pittsburgh. The startling death of the McCoy patriarch re-ignites the feud between the two legendary families, unleashing decades of resentment. De Mornay will play the central character of Mary Hatfield, the Mayor of Pittsburgh and matriarch of the powerful Hatfields, who basically run the city through their development company and political connections. Westrate will play Randall Hatfield, Mary’s smug son. Lincoln Lewis has been cast in ABC‘s Romeo & Juliet-esque pilot Venice, about the haves and the have-nots of California’s most seductive city, Venice. It focuses on two rival families, the Nances and the Carvers, and a forbidden and dangerous romance emerging between them as the families battle for control of the city. The sharks in a supermarket flick Bait 3D (review) was met with a fine reception from most fans for a good reason - it was a lot of bloody fun! That being said sequel talk has begun chumming the waters.
Twitch reports that Arclight Films has announced a sequel to the Australian shark-in-a-supermarket thriller Bait, directed by Kimble Rendall, and starring Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon, Sharni Vinson, Phoebe Tonkin, Martin Sacks, Alice Parkinson, Alexander Russell, Qi Yuwu, Adrian Pang, Lincoln Lewis and Damien Garvey.
The original intense 3D thriller tells the story of a group of survivors in a sleepy beach town who suddenly find themselves trapped inside a submerged supermarket following a freak tsunami. As they try to escape to safety, they soon discover that there is a predator among them more deadly than the threat of drowning—vicious great white sharks lurking in the water, hungry for fresh meat.

A film centred around sharks attacking people in a flooded supermarket isn.t often compared to the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and actor Sam Shepard. But leave aside the unique challenges of shooting in water for nine weeks with actors (including children) standing on shelves, and a mix of animatronic and computer-generated sharks . all captured in 3D . and that.s exactly what you.re left with according to director Kimble Rendall.
.Once we were working with the actors it was a bit like doing a Sam Shepard play on the stage because it really was like a theatre. There were eight actors out on the set and they don.t really leave,. although he laughingly adds .some of them leave . not by choice..
It is still a shark movie after all.

Bait 3D joins a long list of killer shark movies. From Jaws (1975) to Deep Blue Sea (1999) and more recently to Open Water 2: Adrift (2006), there have been many reasons to be afraid of the water. With this latest Australian entry into the genre, fans of thrillers can relax because computer enhanced sharks and false looking tsunamis will create very little fear. Really, Bait simply flounders as the shallow characters and weak storyline massage you into apathy. Speaking of storylines, Bait focuses on the plot devices rather than the characters. There are rogue tidal waves, bank robberies, roaming sharks and the threat of electrocution. But, none of these elements create for an.

The fun, preposterous disaster/shark hybrid Bait floats above similar Dtv fair, but the déjà vu is deep.
Tragedy strikes the waters of a small Australian beach community when a great white shark attacks and kills two people, including lifeguard Rory (Richard Brancatisano). His death tears apart the relationship of his sister Tina (Sharni Vinson) and best friend/fellow lifeguard Josh (The Loved Ones’ Xavier Samuel). One year later, Josh is still haunted by the death of his friend (whom he was seconds away from saving) and laboring at a mindless job as a grocery store employee. Before leaving for work, he catches a news story (Foreshadowing at Five) warning locals about a group of great white sharks in the area who are following the southern migration of humpback whales.

An Australian VFX company has won work on M. Night Shyamalan’s new film After Earth.
Melbourne-based Iloura is working on the sci-fi film which stars Will Smith and his son Jaden as a father and son duo who crash land on a planet that was evacuated by humans 1,000 years ago.
The VFX company has 150 shots and one of five or six vendors working on the big budget film being helmed by the Sixth Sense director.
Caroline Pitcher, business development & marketing director told Encore: “We’re starting on a package of 150 shots and that will grow over the period of the project. We’ve started work already and we’ll deliver final shots in the first quarter of 2013.”
The project is eligible for the Australian 30% VFX Offset. Pitcher said: “We’ve worked closely with Film Victoria in attracting the project to the state of Victoria.”

Based on the first of a series of young adult novels by John Marsden, Tomorrow When the War Began is a character-driven survival drama similar in premise to the ’84 film Red Dawn. While comparisons to that teen hit are inevitable, the two narratives are ultimately very different, both tonally and thematically. Tomorrow emphasizes character and group dynamics while relegating the military threat (the Soviet Union in Red Dawn) to an ambiguous Asian collective left mostly unseen. If Red Dawn wanted to be a crowd-pleasing comic book action film, Tomorrow When the War Began certainly has a different set of priorities.

Omnilab Media may remain committed to developing the sequel to 2010 blockbuster Tomorrow, When the War Began but the film's star, Caitlin Stasey, feels her involvement in the project is over.
The actress, who won an If Award for her performance as Ellie Linton in the adaptation of the best selling John Marsden novel, believes that if a second film does eventually go ahead, it may not feature the original cast members.
"You always hear things, you always hear that someone's writing it, that someone's putting it together," says Stasey. "Nothing has happened until it happens. Unfortunately for the Tomorrow series, I feel that for the actors that were in the first film, maybe our commitment to it is done."
