Exclusive: Former A3 agents Katt Riley and Nick Beldoch have joined the Lit department at Independent Artist Group, Deadline has learned. Just two of over 25 agents Iag has recruited over the past 18 months, they’ll be reunited at the agency with former colleague Fatmata Kamara, who was hired as a talent agent earlier this month.
“In an ever-changing landscape, we are thrilled to welcome Katt and Nick as colleagues whose tireless advocacy for their clients immediately adds strength and depth to what we are building in the Lit department at Iag,” said Lindsay Howard Parker and Adam Kanter, to whom they respectively report. “We have long admired Katt’s tenacity and ability to nurture the careers of her talented writer & director clients while Nick will represent his own emerging clients and serve as an invaluable enhancement on multiple client teams.”

Exclusive: Joe Johnston has signed with Paradigm, reuniting the filmmaker with his longtime reps Adam Kanter and Martin Spencer. The writer-director moves from Wme, where he signed in March as Kanter and Spencer were leaving Resolution. He worked with Kanter for years at CAA and then left to join the dealmaker at Resolution, where it didn’t work out. The prolific writer-director is quite a catch for Paradigm; Johnston’s hits include Captain America: The First Avenger, October Sky, Jurassic Park III, Jumanji and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. He stepped up to direct after winning an Oscar for Visual Effects for his work on Raiders Of The Lost Ark and also did the visual effects on such blockbusters as the original Star Wars trilogy, Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, and The Rocketeer.
Johnston is developing the sci-fi thriller Extinction for Good Universe and Gotti: In The Shadow Of My Father for Relativity.

As Deadline reported last Friday, Paradigm has confirmed that agents Adam Kanter and Martin Spencer have joined the agency after their abrupt exits from Resolution. Word had raced last week that this was happening, as the two agents did not want to take paycuts from their low-seven-figure salaries. Breaking: Even as Jeff Berg was locking down an investment in the agency this week from Beijing-based Bison Capital, rumors raced that other less desirable shakeups were about to happen. We are hearing that veteran motion picture agents Adam Kanter and Martin Spencer, longtime CAA agents who left to join Resolution last year, were escorted out of Resolution headquarters tonight and likely are on their way to Paradigm. Each of the agents brought key clients with them — Kanter brought Doug Liman and Pete Segal, only to see them leave. This is the hard part of trying to launch a talent agency in a most competitive climate, luring agents in as you build enough clientele to enable packaging. It tests client loyalties. Exclusive: Wme just signed Jim Sheridan, the Irish filmmaker who has been in play since his CAA agent Bob Bookman left to join Paradigm. Sheridan also signed with Manage-Ment’s Dan Halsted to be his manager. I kind of figured Sheridan would follow Bookie. But Wme pulled off a coup, just as the agency did when it shook loose Paranormal Activity helmer Oren Peli after his agent Martin Spencer left CAA to join Resolution. In the case of Sheridan, Wme gets a director responsible for what in my book are three bonafide classic films–My Left Foot, In The Name Of The Father, and The Boxer. He also helmed the autobiographical In America, Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ and Brothers. There is either a couple of football fans or Jerry Maguire/Moneyball with this year’s most liked unproduced screenplay. Close to 300 hundred film executives provided with the Black List creators a top ten of their favorite screenplays of the year and the consensus first overall pick (with 65 votes) comes from the recently featured in Variety (10 Screenwriters to Watch 2012) tandem of Rajiv Joseph & Scott Rothman and their drama which has nothing to do with enlisting in the armed forces. Draft Day – about the day in the life of a fictitious Buffalo Bills Gm appears to currently be in turnaround — which only means I expect to see this greenlight perhaps a little later than sooner – worth noting: top spot almost guarantees that the film will indeed go into production (2006, 2010 and 2011 are the exceptions.) The 2011 Black List, the Top Unproduced Screenplays of the year has been released. The best unproduced screenplays from The Black List 2011 is compiled by votes from over 300 “execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year’s list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.”
Regarding the validity of The Black List, things to keep in mind:
some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though…none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

[1] Last year saw the debut of The Viewfinder List [2], which aims to do for aspiring filmmakers what The Black List does for screenwriters. Compiled from a poll of "studio executives, producers, and creatives," The Viewfinder List reflects the most-liked shorts, commercials, and/or music videos of the year. The inaugural list in 2010 included such up-and-comers as Patrick Jean, whose Pixels is due out in 2013, 47 Ronin director Carl Erik Rinsch, and, um, Alejandro González Iñárritu. This year's list has Dan Trachtenberg's Portal: No Escape on top, along with a few other videos you may recognize if you've been paying attention to /Film for the past year. Or even if you haven't -- that adorable Super Bowl Volkswagen ad with the little Darth Vader kid also made the cut, as did Chris Marrs Piliero's video for The Black Keys. The Black List of 2011 continues with the second-half of the list showcasing the screenplays that received the most number of votes.
Remember, this is a list voted on by Hollywood professionals of what they personally believe to be the best unproduced screenplays written in 2011. You might recognize titles for movies that are in development. That's fine by The Black List rules; the only condition that the screenplay must meet is that it's not being filmed within this calendar year. For Black List 2011 selections like Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, that makes it valid for Black List inclusion.

The 2011 Black List has arrived online and there are a bunch of the hottest scripts in Hollywood. Some have already been picked up by studios, while most are still unproduced. Here is the press release: The Black List was compiled from the suggestions of over 300 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2011 and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year.
This year, scripts had to receive at least six mentions to be included on the The Black List.
All reasonable effort has been made to confirm the information contained herein. The Black List apologizes for all misspellings, misattributions, incorrect representation identification, and questionable 2011 affiliations.
It has been said many times, but it's worth repeating:
The Black List is not a "best of" list. It is, at best, a "most liked" list.

[1] Each December since 2004, studio executive Franklin Leonard has compiled the best unproduced screenplays of the year, as voted by hundreds of execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year's list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman. It should be noted that the headline is somewhat misleading -- some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though according to Leonard none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

As the New Year approaches, we are now getting a look at all the scripts that have been passed on, those unproduced screenplays of 2001, or what is better known as The Black List. This year, like every other year, is compiled from the suggestions of hundreds of film executives, each contributes the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2011 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. Some of the best scripts have come from The Black List. Films like The Social Network went on to become the best of 2010. Other movie scripts have catapulted writers into stardom. Diablo Cody’s Juno, Nancy Oliver’s Lars And The Real Girl, Scott Neustader’s and Michael Weber’s 500 Days Of Summer, are just some of the screenplays which appeared on The Black List and then were made.

Since the creation of The Black List in 2006, there's been a push for Hollywood insiders to collect and publish their own compiled lists of unproduced screenplays that they feel deserve more attention. The Black List is the best known of these, released every December, but today another list of recommended unproduced screenplays was released: The Blood List, a collection of horror, sci-fi and fantasy scripts that are deemed worthy by those toiling in the showbiz industry.
This is the third year that The Blood List has been assembled. Created by Kailey Marsh, the Blood List process goes like this: votes are collected from 100 industry insiders as to what the best unproduced screenplays were between Halloween last year and Halloween this year. The one that gets the most votes goes to the top Blood List. Results are then released to the Internet on October 31.
