Exclusive: Rising comedian Paul Elia has set a Christmas Eve premiere date for his debut special, Detroit Player, the first ever shot at the Detroit House of Comedy, which came together over the course of three October tapings. Directed by Elia’s longtime friend Dan Ringey, with whom he previously collaborated on the indie crime thriller Dirty, the special will be available for a month on Mint Comedy.
Elia came to shoot his special after spending years performing stand-up in many unlikely (and awkward) scenarios, in order to pay his rent. He performed in a Dubai mall (and almost got arrested). Soon after, he performed at a private event for Saudi royalty. With Detroit Player, he explores authenticity, censorship and what it means to “hustle” (while avoiding arrests abroad).
Hailing from The LowKey Company & Avesta Entertainment, the special is produced by Bassem Youssef, Azhar Usman and Danny Mooney.

It’s a case of art imitating life and vice versa. This month, a legal thriller about the abuse of an African-American kid in the foster system from producer Peter Samuelson (Arlington Road) is in post-production and readying for festivals. But just last week, the screenwriter for the film Foster Boy won a $45M judgment against a social services agency — the largest award in the history of the state of Illinois in a case involving the death of a toddler in the foster system.
It was a case the producer/screenwriter/lawyer Jay Paul Deratany handled himself.
But a year before Deratany even knew about the the death of 2-year-old Lavandis Hudson in the foster system, the attorney was writing a screenplay about an African-American boy who is abused by a private social services company. Deratany has been practicing law for about 30 years — 16 of them handling cases involving foster care negligence and child neglect.

Currently in cinemas alongside Stallone and the gang in The Expendables 2, and previously seen in one of the year’s biggest blockbusters, The Hunger Games, Liam Hemsworth has had a pretty excellent year, making a strong name for himself (beyond the early references to him as Chris Hemsworth’s brother).
He’ll next be starring in romance-drama, Love and Honor, opposite Teresa Palmer (Wish You Were Here, the upcoming Warm Bodies) in the female lead, and now the first trailer has made its way online.

Mickey Wright (Hemsworth), never one to miss out on a wild time, decides to go with him. They must get back to America, change her mind and return to the war without getting caught.

Action fans got to see Liam Hemsworth kick some ass in The Expendables 2 as one hell of a sniper, but for all the ladies out there, Hemsworth has a romantic side too. Some of that will be on display on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but since that doesn't come out until next November, the new romance Love and Honor, from first-time director Danny Mooney, should hold them over. The film follows a soldier who sneaks back home from the war in Vietnam to find and win back his girlfriend, played by the stunning Aussie actress Teresa Palmer. This one has been described as being similar to The Notebook and The Lucky One, so if you're in need of a date movie, this might be the ticket when it hits theaters. Watch! Here's the first trailer for Danny Mooney's Love and Honor from Vlicious (via The Playlist):...

After testing out his action muscles with The Expendables 2, Liam Hemsworth is going back to war…and then promptly leaving. Danny Mooney‘s directorial debut Love and Honor features The Hunger Games star in the Vietnam war, who then decides goes Awol with a buddy in order to win back his hometown girl Teresa Palmer. Sounds like a good enough reason as any.
This first trailer is about as bluntly emotional and sappy as one could imagine, but seems to fit the Nicholas Sparks-esque film that was inevitable for Hemsworth to lead at some point in his career. Now that he’s gotten it out of his way, we look forward to more promising work, such as Phillip Noyce‘s Timeless and Paranoia with Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford. Check out the trailer below thanks to Vlicious (via The Playlist):
Love and Honor has no distribution yet.

With the Vietnam war raging, one man will make a decision that tests his own morals, ethics and view on American life: fight for his country or go skinny dipping with Teresa Palmer? Yes, those are quandaries Liam Hemsworth faces in "Love and Honor," the kind of movie Channing Tatum used to do. First-time director Danny Mooney takes on the script penned by Jim Burnstein and Garrett Schiff that is apparently based on a true story of an American soldier who gets dumped while serving overseas and goes Awol with his buddy to win back his girlfriend, only to fall for someone else entirely. And also learn about hippies and anti-war protesting along the way. Shot with an autumnal sheen worthy of Thomas Kinkade, this sales trailer is some pretty soppy, sappy stuff that doesn't know an emotional beat it can't beat down with a sledgehammer. So yes, you will...

I’m sure that Awol is familiar title for you, because we already had a little chat about this indie movie which is, by the way, based on a true story.
So, by now, you also know that Liam Hemsworth, Austin Stowell, Teresa Palmer and Aimee Teegarden are all on board to star in Danny Mooney‘s upcoming flick. But, here’s an interesting addition! Apparently now Wyatt Russell will join them as well.
As we previously reported, Awol will follow Stowell as a young soldier in Vietnam who gets dumped by his hometown girl, played by Teegarden.
On the other hand, Hemsworth plays his best friend who joins him in going Awol, and together, they return to the States to win her back. As for Russell, at this moment there’s still no character details for his role.

Liotta will be playing a corrupt police officer.
