Exclusive: Sony Pictures International Productions has optioned remake rights to Latvian Christmas comedy Accidental Santa in eight territories: North America, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Mexico and Brazil.
Sony struck the deal with London-based Canoe Film, which represents international distribution and remake rights and launched sales last week at the European Film Market in Berlin.
Starring Kaspars Karklins, Janis Vimba, Inga Tropa, Jekabs Reinis and Marija Grauba, Accidental Santa follows escaped prisoner Bruno Cricket, who finds the perfect disguise in a Santa suit. Only, it’s Christmas Eve and he’s mistaken as the real deal by two children with a scheme of their own.
Pic is produced by Riga-based Filmu Studija Grauba and was released in cinemas in Latvia last December; it performed as the top-grossing local film over the Christmas period.

Last October, we shared the news that Battle of the Damned director Christopher Hatton‘s mystery horror / supernatural thriller Raven’s Hollow, which stars William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia) as Edgar Allan Poe, had landed a distribution deal with the Shudder streaming service. Shudder has now announced that they’ll be releasing Raven’s Hollow on September 22nd – and along with that announcement comes the unveiling of a trailer for the film, which you can watch in the embed above.

Exclusive: Greenwich Entertainment said Thursday that it has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Keyboard Fantasies: The Beverly Glenn-Copeland Story, a documentary about the New Age electronica musician directed by Posy Dixon. A theatrical release is planned for October timed to the release of Copeland’s Keyboard Fantasies Reimagined album, and a current exhibit at the Guggenheim.
Copeland released a pair of folk and blues albums in the 1970s before segueing to a career in Canadian children’s TV, and writing songs for Sesame Street. It was in the 1980s when Copeland began playing with computer-generated sounds. The result is the 1986 album Keyboard Fantasies, now considered groundbreaking in the genre especially after it was lifted up by collectors and got a 2016 rerelease.
In the pic, a Luca production produced by Liv Proctor, Dixon connected with the musician, now living as Glenn Copeland, and began to document his history and emergence into the independent music scene.
Copeland released a pair of folk and blues albums in the 1970s before segueing to a career in Canadian children’s TV, and writing songs for Sesame Street. As Afm looms on the horizon, Kaleidoscope Film Distribution has picked up international sales rights to Bobcat Goldthwait’s Bigfoot tale Willow Creek.
The story centres on a couple who go camping in woodland in search of the fabled Bigfoot and find more than they bargained for.
Willow Creek screened at Fantasia and Frightfest and will play at Sitges later this month before its market debut at the Afm.
