1. “Stranger Things” Season 2 (available October 27)
Why Should I Watch It? Whether you’re a sci-fi junkie, a horror fan, or just big into Eggo waffles, “Stranger Things” offers thrills and fun for everyone. Genre nerds can geek out over all the cinematic references to Steven Spielberg and James Cameron while casual Netflix subscribers will get caught up in the human story of four friends on exciting adventures. Season 1 built an entire new world, created a monster as unpronounceable as it is unforgettable, and became the sensation of the summer. Season 2 is dropping just in time for Halloween. What a treat, indeed.
Best Episode: Haha, you think we’ve seen new episodes of “Stranger Things”? Are you nuts? Netflix has the second season on lockdown, but we’ll get a review up the moment we’ve laid eyes on it (and probably a few more after that).

Emily Hampshire is in the unique position of being on two of the coolest shows on television right now. You’ll find her in 12 Monkeys on Syfy as Jennifer Goines, the mental institution resident and daughter of the creator of “the virus.” She’s also in the CBC show (though it airs in the U.S. if you have the right channel) Schitt’s Creek, and she plays Stevie, the motel clerk who can’t believe the screwy “rich” people who now live in her motel.
You should really check out both shows, though they could hardly be any different, and Emily has great roles in both. 12 Monkeys obviously is what it is, and she seems to almost be channeling Ally Sheedy in some very odd sense (that is probably specific to me), but to go into a show with Eugene and Dan Levy, and Catherine O’Hara, and steal the show…...

Eugene Levy and Dan Levy paddle their way up Schitt’s Creek, a new comedy series coming to Pop (formerly TV Guide Network) on Wednesdays at 10pmET/9pmCT beginning Feb. 11. Hailing from Paris, The Dø have found a fair amount of success since 2005 by mixing and matching genres with tracks that defy any real label. Their lead singer Olivia Merilahti and instrumentalist Dan Levy have put out 3 albums (in various iterations) since 2008, (with a soundtrack in 2005) and their latest, Both Ways Open Jaws, sees them committing more and more to a sound that's prone to going off in any direction without warning. The result is a highly varied library of music that's quite catchy but strays far from the folk and pop norms.

Another day, another comedian, and if Dan Levy's forays into run-on stories about overdosing on pot cookies pushes the limits of your tolerance in that line of comedy, then Doug Benson is really not for you. Here's a guy who, while not at Mitch Hedbergian levels of highness, manages to come across as stoned but witty. That's his schtick. Today we had the pleasure to listen through his latest comedy album Potty Mouth, and if you're so inclined you can pick it up as it went on sale as of August 29th. Reluctant to buy comedy albums? You're not the only one, so we'll give you a taste to help you decide.

Here at JustPressPlay we go through quite a bit of stand-up comedy, whether it's as an album or DVD release. Since comedy albums feel out of place under "Music Reviews" we've decided to give them their own little corner where they can stand-up and do their thing. We know the internet doesn't really have "corners" per se, but shut up. You get the point. Today we're looking at Dan Levy (a writer for the upcoming Whitney Cummings sitcom Whitney) and more specifically his album Congrats On Your Success, released on August 16th.

The Good Wife is upping the gay factor exponentially this season. Not only does it have Christine Baranski, who I dub an honorary gay man, bisexual Alan Cumming, and Alicia's gay brother Owen (Dallas Roberts), now they've given Owen a boyfriend played by Michael Arden. On top of all of that (not to mention Kalinda), Harvey Fierstein is joining the cast as a liberal judge to meddle in Alicia's cases.
As far as that news that Rep. Michele Bachmann would reinstate Don't Ask, Don't Tell? And we all wondered how that would work? Well, since Congress was sloppy with the repeal, it's really as easy as going back to old ban, pre-dadt, and can be done with an executive order, no law change needed. Of course, the military brass would probably counsel against the change, but I just don't see Bachmann listening to anyone.

We've all had the awkward sex talk with our parents. (If yours wasn't awkward, go give your parents a hug right now, because they're obviously magical.) Now, a new F-Cancer campaign encourages us to have an entirely different kind of awkward conversation with the 'rents... and this time, it's our turn to remind them to be safe.
"One Tree Hill" star Sophia Bush and "Entourage's" Adrian Grenier took part in the campaign by sharing their awkward sex talk experiences -- whether in the first grade or now. Bush talks about her childhood friend Bobby, who got way ahead of himself, and Grenier jokes about his mom's concern for him after seeing Vince's sexcapades on "Entourage."
The point is, if mom and dad were tough enough to fight through the uncomfortableness and educate us, we owe them the same courtesy to remind them about early detection. In addition to Bush and Grenier,...

NBC is partnering with comedian Dan Levy and Jamie Tarses to develop a new comedy to fill the spots of Outsourced and 30 Rock which have been moved to 10 pm. New Wave Entertainment, Tarses' Fan Fare and Sony Pictures Television are partnering with Levy on the deal.

The Legend Of Neil: Atom.com's gaming spoof starring Tony Janning also satirizes male geeks.
Explosive late-night comedy -- and a shot at TV.
Only in a Web series would inebriation and The Legend of Zelda be a match made in heaven. But ever since a gas-station attendant woke up hungover inside the classic Nintendo game nearly two years ago, The Legend of Neil has been one of Atom.com's most successful franchises.
The campy live-action series, now in its third and final season, highlights Atom's evolution over the past decade from user-generated indie film shorts to professionally produced comedy series. In 2006, MTV Networks acquired Atom for $200 million, to serve in part as an idea incubator for its cable nets. Recent hit series 5-On, for example, became Comedy Central's Ugly Americans, and Atom has its own popular (for 2:30 a.m.) weekly showcase on the channel. "One of...

MTV's next target: scripted comedy. The cable network is developing an unprecedented number of scripted half-hour projects, including greenlighting a new series and ordering five pilots.
"We're going to apply the same tenets of creativity and genre-busting to scripted comedy that 'Laguna Beach' used to make over the documentary," MTV head of programming Tony Disanto said. "It makes sense as a progression for us when a lot of our shows like 'Run's House' and 'The Hills' look scripted to start going forward with actual scripted shows."
The projects include a 20-episode series order for a new animated series titled "DJ and the Fro," about two office drones who swap viral videos while surrounded by workplace mayhem.
The network's quintet of pilots -- not all of which have closed deals -- are a mix of live-action and animated projects, with three set in high school and two based on existing Web series.
