Wayne Levin, who was general counsel for Lionsgate for 17 years, resigned in 2017 after a subordinate accused him of physical and sexual abuse and workplace harassment, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Wendy Jaffe, who left the company in 2016, told the paper about a previously undisclosed sequence of events stretching for more than a decade. Levin’s departure was noted in a passing line in a recent regulatory filing, which said he resigned for “health and personal reasons.” His attorney said he had considered leaving “for personal and medical reasons” before the allegations, and former colleagues confirmed to the Journal that he had health problems.
The accusations were formally settled in December 2016, with Lionsgate paying Jaffe $2.5 million.

The former general counsel of Lionsgate Entertainment left the company amid allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse, according to a report Friday in the Wall Street Journal.
Wayne Levin resigned from the company in November of last year. A former subordinate, Wendy Jaffe, told the Journal that Levin mistreated her for more than a decade, including non-consensual sexual conduct in 2002 and 2003. Jaffe left the company in 2016, and received a $2.5 million settlement.
At the time, she signed a non-disclosure agreement. But she spoke about her experiences to the Journal because she alleged that the company had violated the agreement.
“I hoped leaving quietly would make the abuse stop but it didn’t,” Jaffe said in a statement to Variety. “So, I stood up for myself and other employees, and Lionsgate treats that as the problem rather than what its executives do. This has to stop, and that’s why I speaking out.

A subordinate of former Lionsgate Entertainment Corp. general counsel Wayne Levin has accused him of sexual harassment and abuse, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
Wendy Jaffe, a former Lionsgate executive vice president of legal affairs, told the Journal that Levin — who abruptly left the company last November — subjected her to a nonconsensual sexual contract.
She said she told CEO Jon Feltheimer for the first time in 2016 that Levin had spanked her, groped her and asked her to sit on his lap while negotiating her contract. That conversation with Feltheimer took place after Jaffe had left Lionsgate and was part of the settlement negotiations.
Levin disappeared from the corporation in November 2017, and Lionsgate made no announcement, but included a paragraph in regulatory filing that month that said he had resigned for “personal and medical reasons.” His attorney told the Journal that he had been considering resigning before the accusations surfaced...

WWE Studios' next film with the first ladies of horror, Jen and Sylvia Soska (See No Evil 2, is going to be Vendetta, starring WWE Superstar Paul "The Big Show" White, and it sounds like we're in for one hell of a giant-sized bloodbath!
"We honestly couldn’t have finished Vendetta if there was just one of us," Jen says of being able to have her sister assist her with directing. Given that they pretty much share the same mind, it allows our favorite twisted twins to divide and conquer.
Jen continues, "We were watching our editor’s edit of it, and there were scenes that I had never seen because we had different units and shot the movie and rejoined. We shot in 15 days, we killed 47 people, it was insane."
Yep, we are so fucking there.

After first hearing about I, Frankenstein several months ago, a press release from Lionsgate now informs us that the project is moving forward with Aaron Eckhart in the lead. Based on the graphic novel by Underworld‘s Kevin Grevioux, it follows Dr. Frankenstein’s monster, Adam, who has survived to the modern day because of “a genetic quirk in his creation.” Ending up in a “dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.” As writer and director Stuart Beattie summed it up, “Mary Shelly’s story is about the creation of the first human being. This is the story about that being becoming human.”
I’m looking forward to how Eckhart will pull off a character like Frankenstein — and, similarly, how they’ll portray him onscreen. The lumbering beast of James Whale‘s 1931 film deviates from Shelley‘s original novel; Frankenstein...

Friday The 13th U.S. Release Set For April 2012
Lionsgate has acquired worldwide distribution rights to the horror film The Cabin In The Woods from MGM and scheduled the film to be released on April 13, 2012. The company will be distributing the film in North America and the UK, with Lionsgate’s international sales team handling overseas sales.
The film was co-written by Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Firefly, the upcoming Marvel film The Avengers) and writer Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, Lost, Buffy The Vampire Slayer), and marks Goddard’s directorial debut. Whedon also produced the film, which he has described as “the horror movie to end all horror movies.” The film is wildly imaginative and intensely horrific, toying with every convention of its genre while at the same time raising their stakes exponentially.

Formerly known as Isopod, it has been announced today that director Barry Levinson‘s found footage eco-horror film The Bay will be released by Lionsgate. The film “chronicles an unprecedented biological disaster unleashed from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay- an isopod parasite, carrying a horrific untreatable disease, that jumps from fish to human hosts. The true horror and scope of the event unfolds on footage captured on home videos and the internet by the town’s victims.” I love much of Levinson’s previous work, most notably his directorial debut Diner. But he has been responsible for more classics such as Rain Man, Sleepers, and Wag the Dog. The Bay will see him returning to his horror roots found in Sphere.
In other distribution news, THR reports Relativity Media will distribute Mark Tonderai‘s thriller House at the End of the Street. The film stars Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence, Elisabeth Shue,...

Toronto -- In a move that injects a new contender into this year's Oscar race, Lionsgate has picked up North American rights to John Cameron Mitchell's "Rabbit Hole," which had its world premiere Monday at the Toronto International Film Festival.
As the festival winds to its Sunday close, other distributors were lining up films that could play next year's festival circuit: IFC Films said it has acquired worldwide rights, except Canada, to Barry Avrich's documentary "Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project," and Sony Pictures Classics said it picked up North American rights to Pedro Almodovar's latest movie, gothic thriller "The Skin I Inhabit," now filming.
Additionally, Anchor Bay Films has secured rights to "Carjacked," a thriller being directed by John Bonito ("The Marine").
Lionsgate will release "Rabbit" by year's end, and based on positive reactions here, that should make the movie a player during awards season.

Exclusive: Lionsgate is wrapping up a deal to acquire North American distribution rights to Rabbit Hole, and the plan is to jump right into this year's Oscar race by releasing the picture before year's end. They will take advantage of a career performance by Nicole Kidman as a mother who loses her child. The John Cameron Mitchell-directed film stars Kidman and Aaron Eckhart as a married couple trying to keep the relationship alive after a devastating loss. David Lindsay-Abaire adapted his Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Dianne Wiest's performance has also been singled out. It is the second big deal in two days for Lionsgate, which partnered with Roadside Attractions for the U.S. rights on the Robert Redford-directed The Conspirator. While the decision was made for that pic to sit out this crowding Oscar field, Lionsgate needed a horse to ride in the race and Rabbit Hole is it.
