The brilliant Arkham series has brought gamers face to face with some of the best, weirdest and most memorable villains in Batman’s rogues gallery, from The Joker and Harley Quinn to Mr Freeze and Deathstroke, but the latest title will introduce an all-new character to take down The Dark Knight.
Batman: Arkham Knight will see the Caped Crusader coming up against a whole host of classic foes, but also the titular Knight him(or her)self. Designed by comic artist Jim Lee and with a backstory cooked up by comics-writer Geoff Johns, this new addition to the many, many superpowered headaches players will be punching, batarang’ing and swooping-down-from-rooftops’ing, is shrouded in secrecy.
Who is the Arkham Knight? Could it be an existing Batman villain playing copycat? Rocksteady claim otherwise, but we’re wary of trusting these superhero people. Here are ten characters from the Arkham series...

Welcome to Issue 46 of The Marvelous Da7e!
This week: Batsuit and Agents of Shiled
We live in the adaptation nation now, people, and it’s a brave new world as we start to see stories and characters we recognize as comic book and comic book movie fans go through significant transformations to be massaged into greater mega franchising.
In the world of Amazing Spider-Man, villains have recognizable names like The Lizard, Electro, Green Goblin, but none of them come about in the films the way they were made in the comics: The Lizard has no son, Electro is The Riddler from Batman Forever, the Green Goblin was never Norman Osborn. In the world of X-Men: Days of Future Past (more on this next week...and the week after so we can dissect it, probably), Fox has learned that people wanted X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X3: The Last Stand to disappear,...

We all have been waiting for this moment since the tentatively titled “Batman vs Superman” was announced last year and today Zack Snyder has officially released the first look at Ben Affleck wearing the new Batman, designed by Michael Wilkinson. In my personal opinion this is the most comic book accurate interpretation yet, a total departure from the rubber suits seen in the 90’s movies and nowhere near as grounded as the bat armor seen in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. There are clear comic book influences at play here, which rings true to a lot of rumors that have been going around for months. So let’s go through some of the most evident: Jim Lee’s Batman I think the first impression that I got from Snyder’s picture is that the cowl is influenced by Jim Lee’s take on Batman. The short earns on a Batman costume...

The geek community waited with bated breath this morning in anticipation of the reveal of the new Batmobile, which was promised by Zack Snyder yesterday. Of course, many of us hoped that the full reveal would also come with an official image of the new Batsuit, and I’m happy to say that Snyder didn’t disappoint!
I shot this with my @Leica_Camera M Monochrom. #Batman #Batmobile #Gotham http://t.co/WPHKLxgBLM pic.twitter.com/p5DEf6fLzJ

This image is our first glimpse at Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader in Batman vs. Superman, as we see him standing next to the new Batmobile. As expected, the vehicle looks like a mix between Tim Burton’s classic design, and the Tumbler design featured in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.
The Batsuit, on the other hand, is something we haven’t seen on film before.

After yesterday’s tease, Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League director Zack Snyder has revealed a first look at Ben Affleck fully suited up as the Caped Crusader standing alongside the redesigned Batmobile.
Compared to Chirstopher Nolan’s take on the Batsuit – donned by Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Trilogy – this version is a lot closer to the comic books, and looks like it will fit right in alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman suit from Man of Steel. The next big reveal is of course Wonder Woman.
The Batmobile also looks a lot different to what has come before and very much resembles various iterations of the vehicle which have been seen in the pages of the comic books over the years.
Meanwhile, those fans who doubted that Ben Affleck (who played a superhero way back in the critically panned Daredevil in 2003) may have to eat their words, as...

One of the main goals of Aquaman's relaunch for the New 52 was to make him more relevant, self-aware and just plain cooler for a new generation of comic book fans. I think most readers would agree Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis did a spectacular job rejuvenating the character and giving him a new lease on life.
Who would have thought even five years ago that the King of Atlantis would not only be able carry one monthly title, but two? Aquaman and the Others #1 proves that the hero has what it takes to lead his own team of super friends. Issue #1 of the new series wastes no time getting straight to the point with a murder and rooftop battle… and that's just in the first three pages.
Aquaman partners with an eclectic group of super heroes against a mysterious foe. The members have been commissioned to protect a group of Atlantean artifacts.

Animator and producer Bruce Timm hasn’t worked on a Batman animation since 2004, but this year is the Caped Crusader’s 75th anniversary, and DC is making sure we know it by offering all kinds of exclusives and events—among them a black and white, classic-style short by Timm himself: Strange Days.
Check out the length of Batman’s ears. Now that’s 1930s.
To see Timm talk about the development of the short, you can watch this DC “All Access” clip:
Timm co-created the Emmy-winning Batman: The Animated Series, which is still widely believed to be the hero’s best onscreen representation—and I have to agree. It’s the closest I’ve seen to a real Batman comic-in-motion, movies included (sorry, Christopher Nolan), although that might change if somebody just asked Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo to direct a Batman movie.

(Cbr) Following in the footsteps of two of its predecessors, 2016′s "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be set in a decade that’s long past. "X-Men: First Class" brought the ’60s to life, at least half of this summer’s "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will take place in the ’70s, and Bryan Singer recently confirmed that the currently in pre-production sequel will take place in the 1980s. Yep, the mutants will slip into Members Only jackets and use their powers to solve Rubik’s Cubes – that is, if there’s anything left of America following the possibly time-stream shattering events of "Days of Future Past." The subtitle "Apocalypse" doesn’t make this version of the 1980s sound all that pleasant. Still, longtime fans of the X-Men should welcome this setting with open arms, since it means that the film will be set during the decade that saw the X-Men claw their...

If you’re a Batman reader, chances are you’ll have read Batman: Hush, a questionable “classic” from writer Jeph Loeb and artist Jim Lee, and if you’re a new reader, you’re more than likely to have seen this appear on lists of recommended Batman books to start with. But actually Batman: Hush is a badly written, poorly conceived mess – not even close to “classic” status as some would have you believe.
The premise is that someone is targeting Batman leading to a rash of his greatest villains suddenly appearing to challenge him – but why are these things happening now and who is the mysterious villain behind it all?
While Hush reads like a Batman greatest hits compilation (which is the only reason I can imagine it being recommended to readers unfamiliar with the character) it is a confusing mishmash of nonsensical ideas, terrible plotting and bad characterisation,...

Noah is an adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood. Subject to divine visions foretelling the end of the world, Noah attempts to tell his people to cease their mistreatment of the earth in order to be saved. No one listens to his warnings, and Noah and his family are cast out to fend for themselves in the wilderness. Noah approaches a race of giant six-armed angels known as the Watchers to rally them to his cause. Darren Aronofsky has put together a new art exhibit titled 'Fountains of the Deep: Visions of Noah and the Flood' that features work created by acclaimed artists Ugo Rondinone, Sue Williams, Karen Kilimnik, Mike Nelson Nan Goldin, Jim Lee, Jim Woodring...

Last night, ComingSoon.net was invited to catch a sneak peek at a startling new art exhibit in the Soho district of New York City titled "Fountains of the Deep: Visions of Noah and the Flood," curated by none other than director Darren Aronofsky. The Black Swan helmer is releasing his own vision of the Biblical hero Noah , starring Russell Crowe, but this exhibit has only a tenuous connection to the film itself, serving as more of an installation exploring our collective imagination of the story. The pieces ranged from highly abstract to illustrative, with a large number of the artists culled from the comic book world: Jim Lee, Jim Woodring, James Jean, Peter Kuper, Jock. Even '90s fan fav Rob Liefeld contributed a piece that looks more suited to the cover of the...

Batman villains are a lot like jelly beans; they’re mostly delicious, but every once in a while you get a brown one that tastes less like root beer and more like garbage juice. The good news for Bat-Villains though is that they live in a world of fantasy where they can be re-imaged and updated for current times, whereas bad tasting jelly beans only option is trash can city.
For every Joker, Riddler, and Two-Face Batman has also battled villains who wear Guy Fawkes masks, have quilt-themed crimes, and use kites as their main mode of transportation. Last year Marvel made big news with the Black Avengers book they are doing or have done or will be doing.
Truth is I don’t know if it’s been done or not because these days I rarely read comics that get massive press. Unless I know the creator I’d rather pass on hype – especially if that hype has to with new black characters.
I’m sick to death of some making a big deal out of the black character they are bringing to comics.
Why?
Two reasons. The first is because two seconds (if that long) after the story appears in the press or the book goes on sale I’m asked to comment.
“DC is doing a book where two black people are in a street scene. What are your thoughts?”
“Well I think that anytime a major publisher puts two black people in a scene...

Jennifer Garner spoke, albeit briefly, about her husbands new outfit at the recent SAG awards. Mrs Batman describes the new Batsuit as a total reinvention. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight she said “The suit is unbelievably cool. It’s a total reinvention. It looks great.” Being realistic about it, of course its a total reinvention. Did someone say slow news day? I would have expected a pic of Ben Affleck’s Bat-suit over the next few weeks, but with the change of release date for Superman V Batman that might be a bit off yet! I wonder where its going to pop up though? A magazine cover I’d expect! And if I were a betting man, I’d put some money on some serious influence from Jim Lee! Anyway, watch this space!

What better to way to open up the 75th anniversary year for Batman than to start it off with a celebration of the 27th issue of Detective Comics through 27 tales taking up 96 pages? I'm sure many readers might know that the Dark Knight made his debut in the pages of Detective Comics in 1939. However, it never hurts to educate newer enthusiasts and that's exactly what the writers and artists do in this issue.
Writers featured in Detective Comics #27 include Brad Meltzer, Gregg Hurwitz, Peter J. Tomasi, Francesco Francavilla, Mike Barr, John Layman, and Scott Snyder. Each one uses their talents to spin a yarn which pays tribute to the Caped Crusader and his 75 year legacy of crimefighting. I found myself emotionally touched by certain of the more sentimental stories.

When this series launched, nobody was quite sure what the title meant – Superman Unchained. Unchained from what? Issue #5 poses an answer to that question: Superman unchained… from Clark Kent. “No More Hiding” is the refrain that opens and closes this comic as Superman is repeatedly forced by two different villains to put aside the charade of his human persona and fully embrace his true nature as a god.
Dustin Nguyen illustrates the scenes set in Superman’s youth in Smallville as he and Lana stand atop a silo and prepare to test their abilities of flight by leaping off of it. With all the books around my place, it would be nice to have some bookends. And what better ones than The Worlds Finest, especially with the upcoming film. Available at Big Bad Toy Store. With my excitement for what Marvel will do with their Cinematic Phase 2, 3, and beyond, I hope to get the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled set. Available at Amazon. Set to be the definitive retelling of the upstart company’s formation, the new documentary features interviews with pretty much everyone involved in the birth of the company – including Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld. The film’s already being hailed as a “must watch” for comic geeks. As someone who was really into comics during that era, I can remember the buzz and...

As the legend goes, twenty one years ago this month, in a ballsy power move that would forever change comics, comic book all stars Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Erik Larsen, Whilce Portacio, and Jim Valentino left Marvel Comics to form their own comic book publishing company called Image. As a response to years of creator mistreatment at the time and given maybe six months to live, twenty years later Image Comics continues to influence mainstream comics and popular culture to this very day.
Hot documentary The Image Revolution tells the story of Image Comics, from its founders’ work at Marvel, through Image’s early days, the ups and downs of the ’90s, and the publisher’s new generation of properties like The Walking Dead.
The Image Revolution is an absolute Must Watch for comic book fans, and in my opinion one of the best documentaries of the year.

So Infinity (w. Jonathan Hickman a. Jim Cheung, Dustin Weaver) concluded what’s been an interesting if not exactly mind-blowing run. The Avengers return to earth to sort out Thanos and his nasty mates, Maximus of the Inhumans cracks wise and saves the world and Rocket Raccoon makes an all-too brief (like, one panel appearance). The main point of the event seems to have been to launch the Inhumanity series – which to be fair, does look kind of interesting – but beyond that, I’m not sure what we’ve learnt. None of the characters seem to have radically changed from what I, as a pretty casual Marvel reader, understand to be their default personality setting to be. What happens to Thanos (and I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that yes, something happens to the primary antagonist in the last issue of a comic book series) is cool,...

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ben Affleck was asked to share his thoughts on Kevin Smith's recent comments that he'll be suiting up in a Jim Lee inspired Batsuit. As you might expect, the director and actor avoided saying anything too specific, but he does seem to be extremely confident in Zack Snyder's ability to deliver an incredible take on the iconic DC character. Affleck also sounds extremely happy with what he's so far seen of Batman Vs. Superman, so check out what he had to say in full below, and then sound off with your thoughts in the usual place! Well, I don’t want to get too far afield and I’m sure I’ll have time to talk about Batman down the road. What I’ll say is that I really like Zack. From what I’ve seen of what’s Zack is doing,...

Sorry, Django fans, it looks like Quentin Tarantino won’t be making a sequel anytime soon — yet he is sticking with the same vibe. On Tuesday night’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Quentin Tarantino stopped by to discuss his latest projects as well as salute Leno’s final season. (Tarantino’s first appearance on the late night show was back in 1992!) When Leno asked about his next movie, Tarantino shared, for the first time, that it will be a western. “It’s not a Django sequel, but it’s a western,” said the acclaimed writer-director.

Well, it seems after some initial confusion the New 52 universe is starting to come into its’ own. Zero Year is redefining the Bat myth and we finally have a comic featuring Harley Quinn that doesn’t make us apathetic, angry or squirm. In fact what we do get is a clever, self aware and generally quite fun comic. The narrative isn’t really important as nothing really happens until the last few pages. What is important is what happens that seems surreal or unreal and breaks the fourth wall.
To surmise; Harley is bored sat inside a storage unit. She’s chilling out, eating candy, drinking soda pop, reading comics and listening to disembodied voices. The fun really starts when she starts hearing the voices of her new writing team; Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti. Cue a riotous adventure, or adventures, as Harley is whisked from one hypothetical adventure to...

In 2012, The Avengers finally assembled in cinemas. However, it’s 2015 which will give us the ultimate team-up movie as director Zack Snyder brings together Batman and Superman. With new details coming thick and fast (recent reports have included the news that the Caped Crusader’s suit will be based on Jim Lee’s designs and that Nightwing will make an appearance), we thought that now would be a good time to look at ten more superhero team-up’s we would like to see on the big – or small – screen. So, what are you waiting for? Check them out below and let us know your thoughts in the comment section at the bottom of the page!

Director and comic book fan Kevin Smith has become one of the first to see the design of the new Batman costume that Ben Affleck will be wearing in the Man of Steel sequel and praises the design.
Kevin Smith revealed on November 9th during his weekly Hollywood Babble-On podcast that he has seen a photo of Affleck in the Batman costume which he will don in Batman vs. Superman. Smith claims he was so thrilled with what he saw, that he hugged the film's director Zack Snyder.
Smith says, “You have not seen this costume on film before. For a comic book fan, it was mind-bending... Because every other movie does this Matrix-y black armor thing…There wasn’t a single nipple on this suit. I think everyone is just gonna be like ‘Holy S#-t!’ It’s its own thing. We haven’t been down this path before.

Welcome to Issue #22 of The Marvelous Da7e!
Real quick mission statement: this column is for discussion and speculation of/on superhero movie news and superhero movies. Titular allegiance aside, this sphere includes non-Marvel properties.
This week: In the back alleys of Los Angeles, rumors of a scrambling Warner Bros give weight to concept that no one knows what the score is for the DC Universe. On the flip side, Marvel makes a super-corporate but very symbolic tweak to their brand.
Disclaimer: The following conclusions are my opinion alone, me, Da7e Gonzales. They do not represent the editorial opinion of Latino Review as a publication or any of its non-Da7e contributors.
There’s a question that’s on the edge of my mind whenever new Batman Vs. Superman non-news hits. It’s so-and-so for Wonder Woman and so-and-so for Nightwing. Batman’s costume is going to look like...

Most Flogged is Psylocke | Photo by: Joseph Chi Lin
The X-Men aren't exactly lacking in firepower, but one of their most valuable weapons is their resident telekinetic ninja Psylocke, and for good reason. Aside from being able to “ask” someone to make her waffles at anytime with her telepathy, she can also create telekinetic constructs, which is a fancy way of saying she can create a crossbow with her mind. I think we can all agree that is awesome, and it seems the cosplay community thinks so too. While most of these pictures feature the classic Jim Lee era outfit, I was able to find a few modern and alternate versions of the character as well, so take a gander at some of the best Psylocke cosplay around.

I've never been more upset over the death of a Robin than I was that of Damian Wayne's untimely demise. I absolutely loved the little smart-mouthed spoiled brat and the interaction he had with the past Robins, Alfred, Batman, and his father Bruce Wayne. Yes, I did separate the Dark Knight and his alter ego on purpose. They are two different people as anyone who's read the comic books and kept up with the character will recognize is the way he prefers it.
It's not like Damian: Son of Batman Issue #1 comes unexpected from a company who is known for rebooting, re-creating, and giving fans alternate looks into the worlds of their many super heroes. The moment the Dark Knight's offspring was killed, I think we all knew he would show up again somehow. Damian Wayne was much too interesting to just let him perish so quickly without exploring him further.

Lost actor Terry O'Quinn is the latest name dropped as a possible candidate for the role of Lex Luthor in Batman vs Superman. At least that's the latest from the Superman Super Site and Man of Steel Fan Page. It's reported that O'Quinn is one of several actors on Zack Snyder's shortlist so there's no guarantee he'll get the role. But I'll certainly admit, O'Quinn definitely has the look. Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) was previously rumored to be up for the role, as well as Mark Strong (John Carter, Sherlock Holmes) but both actors debunked have since debunked those rumors. With filming expected to begin in earnest in early 2014,expect official casting announcements to come sooner rather than later. Related Content: Sdcc '13: Jim Lee On The 'Superman Vs. Earlier today, it was reported that Kevin Smith discussed Ben Affleck's Batman costume on his weekly Hollywood Babble-On podcast. He reveals that director Zack Snyder showed Kevin an image of Ben Affleck wearing the new Batman costume for Batman Vs. Superman. When vaguely describing what he saw, he mentioned that it won't be "matrixy black armor," like in past Batman films. He added, "It seemed like it was very [Redacted] Influenced." What was redacted? Now, we might know. Batman-News (via Cbt) Reports: Update: a fan who was at the live recording says that it was “Jim Lee” that got bleeped on the podcast. Legendary comic book artist, Jim Lee, had had quite a bit of influence on Batman's costume over the years. When he first worked on the Caped Crusader, It was for Batman: Hush (2002-2003). Which was a 12-issue run, written by Jeph Loeb. For that, Lee designed a blue and gray costume,...

Updated: According to a reader of Manofsteelfanpage.com who attended the podcast, the costume influence that was bleeped out was Jim Lee. If that's the truth then go me for getting that one right. Most of our time talking about Batman Vs Superman has been spent discussing supporting characters like Wonder Woman and most recently, Nightwing. I'm going to step out on a limb here and say that I think the movie should concentrate more on the two main characters and possibly a villain. I feel...
