In one of the most interesting pieces of casting news to land this week, THR reports that Charlotte Gainsbourg has entered talks to appear in sci-fi sequel Independence Day 2. The actress is known for her aggressively method performances in Lars Von Trier’s back catalogue of works including Nymphomaniac, Antichrist and Melancholia, so stepping away from character-driven pieces and into the realm of blockbuster fare is certainly an unexpected move for Gainsbourg.

Whenever it seems like the werewolf movie has been completely forgotten, we get a nice reminder that this immortal legend of horror cinema will always have its fair share of supporters. It was way back in 1981 when The Howling, Wolfen, and An American Werewolf in London hit the screens, and while there was a semi-resurgence with Ginger Snaps (2000), Dog Soldiers (2002), and (to a degree) The Wolfman (2010), we don't seem to get half-decent lycanthropic cinema all that frequently.
"Decent" seems a good way to describe Late Phases, the new werewolf feature from the admirably eclectic director Adrian Bogliano (Penumbra, Cold Sweat, and Here Comes the Devil are among his most recent films), because the flick has too many good intentions and legitimately strong assets to allow its narrative missteps to ruin the whole package. Put more simply: Late Phases has a more than a few "slow spots" and it has trouble...

When most horror-loving filmmakers "hearken back" to the great old 1980s, they do it a lot like Adam Green did in his broadly (and gorily) likable Hatchet trilogy: they remind the viewer what we (hopefully) love and remember from the horror movies we saw when we were younger. A lot of those movies were pretty darn silly, but we loved them all the same -- a sentiment that certainly works for children of any generation.
Then there are scrappy little indies like Under the Bed, which do all they can to pay homage to "kid-focused" thrillers like The Gate, Poltergeist, Silver Bullet, and Stand By Me. As directed by the prolific Steven Miller (The Aggression Scale, Silent Night, Automation Transfusion) and written by Eric Stolze, Under the Bed earns a lot of points for effort and execution -- especially on such a small budget -- and it has just enough...

Steven C. Miller’s Under the Bed will start its limited theatrical release this Friday and we have a number of special features coming up. The first is an exclusive Q&A with costume designer Ambre Wrigley, thanks to FancyDressCostumes.co.uk. In this feature, Ambre talks about her fear of monsters as a child, taking inspiration from music, and modifying costumes for horror movies.
How did you get involved with Under The Bed?
Ambre Wrigley: I responded to an ad looking for a costume designer. I met with Steven Miller (Director), Will Clevinger (Producer), and Ben Rabbers (Upm). We interviewed for about 15 minutes until they said they’d get back to me and about 20 minutes into my drive home I got a call offering me the gig. I was so excited about it I couldn’t stop grinning for days. I’d just landed my first full feature as a costume designer.

NBC News reporter Luke Russert tore into Steven Miller, the former acting Internal Revenue Service commissioner who testified before members of Congress on Friday relating to the allegation that the IRS singled out conservative groups for added scrutiny. He said that Miller appeared to be “winging it,” and added that the former acting commissioner who was asked by the White House to resign may have...

At face value, there shouldn't be anything wrong with a Democratic member of Congress admonishing recently departed IRS acting commissioner Steven Miller for allowing agents to target conservative groups under his watch. But when that congressman is Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-ny), who was found guilty of 11 ethics violations, including neglecting to pay taxes on his Dominican Republic vacation villa in 2010, things gets a little more tricky.

During today's hearing on the IRS political targeting scandal before the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-wi) hammered recently-resigned acting IRS chief Steven Miller for "misleading" statements previously given to the committee. The former Gop vice presidential candidate also cornered Miller into conceding that progressive buzzwords in organization titles were not at all included among the tax...

On Wednesday night's PoliticsNation, while waiting for President Obama to announce the forced resignation of acting IRS Director Steven Miller, Hardball host Chris Matthews went off on a segment of the anti-Obama crowd that Matthews says "want this president to have an asterisk next to his name in the history books," people like Donald Trump, who "can’t stand the idea that he’s president, and a piece of it is racism." Matthews placed the level of such opposition at "maybe 10%," or "maybe 20%, on a bad day."...

Washington -- Nobody's going to win an Emmy for a parody of the TV show "Star Trek" filmed by Internal Revenue Service employees at an agency studio in Maryland.
Instead, the IRS got a rebuke from Congress for wasting taxpayer dollars.
The agency says the video, along with a training video that parodied the TV show "Gilligan's Island," cost about $60,000. The "Star Trek" video accounted for most of the money, the agency said.
The IRS said Friday it was a mistake for employees to make the six-minute video. It was shown at the opening of a 2010 training and leadership conference but does not appear to have any training value.
The video features an elaborate set depicting the control room, or bridge, of the spaceship featured in the hit TV show. IRS workers portray the characters, including one who plays Mr. Spock, complete with fake hair and pointed ears.

Malcolm McDowell hardly needs an introduction, but here goes: The British actor, with over 100 credits to his resume, is best known for his lead role in Stanley Kubrick’s groundbreaking, genre-defying film A Clockwork Orange. His most recent project is Silent Night, a “loose remake” of 1984’s Silent Night, Deadly Night. In the new version, which just hit DVD and blu-ray last week, McDowell plays a small town sheriff who must find a Christmas killer dressed as Santa. We spoke with Malcolm about the film, about Clockwork, and about what scares him so much about Santa Claus.
How did you get involved with Silent Night?
Well, they asked me to do it! I read it and I was quite intrigued. I liked it a lot. I thought we could make a good movie. I met the director, Steven Miller, and he came up with some really great ideas. Even though...

Today's the DVD/Blu-ray premiere of Silent Night, director Steven Miller's reinvention of the once-controversial 1984 killer-Santa film Silent Night, Deadly Night. If you've been keeping up with our coverage on FEARnet (as all good boys and girls should), you'll know that the new Silent Night is a radical departure from the original – which was mainly notorious for its ad campaigns running during the holiday season, but otherwise fairly tame as slasher flicks go – and this complete re-imagining extends to Kevin's score, which is not only big, bombastic and scary fun, it also includes memorable themes for the rampaging St. Nick and the film's tough but troubled heroine, weaving orchestral, rock and electronic elements with just the right sprinkle of sinister sleigh bells. I had a chat with Kevin about the creation of the score, as well as his fondness for '80s symphonic horror themes... FEARnet: Your score is...

Remember the first time you watched Home Alone? You probably enjoyed it quite a bit, but still, somewhere deep in the back of your head, you knew it was missing something. That something was most likely extreme violence, bloody murder and a hot older sister. Lucky for you director Steven Miller and writer Ben Powell thought the very same thing. Their new film, The Aggression Scale, is about a group of thugs who invade a family’s home in search of money and kicks but find an emotionally disturbed boy instead. Owen is prone to violence, knowledgeable in the art of weapon-making and booby traps and very, very angry. He would eat Kevin McCallister for breakfast. The always wonderful Ray Wise stars as the mobster behind it all, and Dana Ashbrook joins him as his right-hand man and lead enforcer. That’s right…it’s a mini Twin Peaks reunion! Also...

Let's call it a brand-new O'Day!
Despite her weekly serving of kickass as one of the strongest players on this season of "Celebrity Apprentice," Aubrey O'Day has forged ahead with her musical comeback by releasing a brand-new single, "Wrecking Ball," on Monday (April 23). Straying away from the slick Pop&B she delivered with Danity Kane and even songs heard in her "All About Aubrey" reality show, "Wrecking Ball" treads waters that Miss O'Day has never ventured before, most notably highlighting her vocal talents.
Trading in her stilettos and hairflips in favor of some touching runs about heartbreak, the mid-tempo "Wrecking Ball" finds Aubrey channeling her inner Kelly Clarkson as she reflects on a seemingly picture-perfect relationship that she's left behind. Co-produced and co-written by David Hodges, Steven Miller and "American Idol's" own Pia Toscano, the breezy song sounds like something that'd fit comfortably with mainstream radio criteria,...

Horror fans are well-versed in the "home invasion" sub-section of the horror shelves these days, and even without classics like Wait Until Dark and Straw Dogs we'd still have plenty of recent reminders like Them, The Strangers, and (of course) the remake of Straw Dogs. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Film festivals and horror shelves are all but awash with thrillers in which a safe place is invaded by mysterious invaders with malicious intent. Being lost in the woods is one kind of scary; having your safe little home attacked by murderers is a different story altogether. Rooted firmly in the home invasion territory is Steven Miller's The Aggression Scale, which is certainly one of the more...

Besides the sexy poster you see below, the upcoming After Dark horror flick “Scream of the Banshee” doesn’t have a lot going for it. Not only is it directed by “Automaton Transfusion” director Steven Miller and penned by “Boo” mastermind Anthony Ferrante, it’s only bankable stars are Lauren Holly and Lance Henriksen. The plot certainly sounds intriguing — a group of college kids open a box that contains the scream of a blood-thirsty banshee — but when you factor in everything mentioned above, expectations should be adjusted accordingly. If you want to see something truly horrifying, watch Lauren Holly’s “The Town Christmas Forgot”. Chill you to the bone, it will. Via Shock Till You Drop...

Precious director Lee Daniels' sister has been charged after allegedly sneaking guns and money out of her Californian home following her husband's arrest for drug dealing.
Leah Daniels-Butler's house was placed under surveillance by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department after her husband Henry Butler was arrested last month and charged with transporting significant quantities of cocaine from Los Angeles to New York.
The 44-year-old casting associate, who helped Daniels discover actress Gabourey Sidibe, was spotted carrying at least one bag out of the property and driving away in a Mercedes-Benz.
According to an affidavit filed by Drug Enforcement Administration agent Steven Miller, cops then pulled over her car and Daniels-Butler agreed to a search. Cops discovered a loaded 9-mm handgun, an unloaded Intratec Tec-9 pistol, several loaded magazines, and boxes of ammunition, along with $39,500 (£26,333) in cash in a bag, reports the New York Daily News.
In a statement, Miller says, "There is probable cause to believe that the items recovered from the Leah Daniels-Butler vehicle were evidence of Henry Butler's drug trafficking."
Daniels-Butler was charged in New York on Tuesday with obstructing a federal investigation and was ordered to wear an ankle monitoring bracelet after posting $50,000 (£33,333) bail.

Bloody-Disgusting recently caught up with director Steven Miller, who is currently putting the finishing touches on Scream Of The Banshee, part of After Dark's 8-part Originals series arriving this October. "After Dark called me this past November and said, 'Hey, we have this movie for you,'" Miller tells Bd. "They were a fan of my first movie, which was Automaton Transfusion. " It was really quick. They got the script and then they handed it to me. From getting the script to shooting was literally a month or less. We shot in Louisiana in Baton Rouge. They've got some crazy stuff going on down south. It's a great place. Everybody there is really cool and the crews are really nice. We shot this movie in 12-15 days, depending on how you look at it. It's very quick, very hectic, but a lot of fun."...
