Netflix kicked off February with news of the streaming service’s 2024 film slate.
The steamer, which landed 18 Oscar nominations this year – including seven for Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” – will debut numerous populist films in 2024, including new projects from Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, Jenifer Lopez, Millie Bobby Brown, Eddie Murphy, and more.
Well-known directors with movies set to premiere on Netflix this year include Tyler Perry (two titles), McG, Richard Linklater, and Lee Daniels. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will also make his directorial debut with “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story.”
On the awards front, while it’s too early to tell which projects might pop – and what movies Netflix might acquire for release this year, similarly to how the studio purchased Todd Haynes’ “May December” at the Cannes Film Festival last year – titles to flag include “The Piano Lesson” from Malcolm Washington with Samuel L. Jaume Collet-Serra has a fascinating filmography that gets more and more interesting as time goes on. His debut feature was the aughts horror "House of Wax" remake, but he's now at the helm of the DC superhero movie "Black Adam." While the general public may know him best for his films like the Dwayne Johnson-starring "Jungle Cruise" or the Liam Neeson action thrillers "Unknown," "Non-Stop," "Run All Night," and "The Commuter," to horror fans, he'll always be the man behind "Orphan" and "The Shallows." After his foray into the DC Extended Universe, Jaume Collet-Serra is returning to his thrilling roots with the new film "Carry On."
"Carry On" marks the first collaborative effort between Netflix and Amblin as part of the overall deal Amblin signed with the streaming giant last year. Tj Fixman was behind the screenplay's first draft, with Michael Green providing the finishing touches. No word yet...

Jason Bateman has booked his holiday travel.
The multi-hyphenate is scheduled to star opposite Taron Egerton in the new Netflix thriller “Carry On,” TheWrap has confirmed. The film will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, a man who knows a thing about transportation-related terror thanks to “Non-Stop” and “The Commuter.”
Egerton plays a young Tsa agent who is blackmailed by a shadowy traveler (presumed to be the Bateman role) to let a dangerous package get through security (and onto a flight). And this happens, of course, during Christmas, which is already giving us “Die Hard 2” vibes. (The overall plot sounds like “Executive Decision” with a little “Red Eye” thrown in for good measure).
Tj Fixman wrote the first draft of the screenplay, with Michael Green doing the most recent polish. Dylan Clark will serve as producer. This is the first movie coming out of a recent Amblin/Netflix deal (which...

Fixman's star has been on a steady rise for quite some time, and it looks like he's settling into the role of being "kind of a big deal." He's only 36, but has quite a diverse resumé so far. He has five films in some stage of development, at studios ranging from Universal, Paramount, and Disney. He was also tapped by Hasbro to head up their planned cross-platform onslaught of titles based on their toy properties. He's written hit video games, he's adapting "Gargoyles" for the big screen,...

Exclusive: Looks like somebody has been eating his spinach. Sony Pictures Animation is bringing in T.J. Fixman to write Popeye, the latest adaptation of the beloved sailor man. First appearing some 87 years ago in a comic strip by the cartoonist Elzie Segar, Popeye has appeared in numerous comics, cartoons, ads and, in one instance, a live-action feature film. Directed, somewhat surreally, by Robert Altman and starring a then-29-year-old Robin Williams, the 1980 film was…...

Over two years ago, All in all, this is definiit was announced that classic Playstation 2 platformer Ratchet & Clank would be getting the big screen treatment, and it’s all being a bit thin on the ground in regards to the new animated feature since then. Thankfully, a new full length trailer has come our way, packing in plenty of the games trademark humour and family friendly action-adventure. With one of the game’s writers, T.J. Fixman, and the original voice cast (James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet, David Kaye as Clank, and Jim Wrad as Captain Quark) on board, this could turn the fortunes of game to screen adaptions around. That’s not even mentioning the rest of the voice cast, including John Goodman, Paul Giamatti, Rosario Dawson, and Sylvester Stallone. All in all, this is definitely one for kids, both big and small, to keep an eye on. Released: April...

We had a Hitman movie back in 2007 that was alright, but it generally followed the trend of videogame movies being kind of crappy.

Hollywood is still trying to make Chris Pine happen. Outside of the "Star Trek" franchise, the actor has been a non-starter, but that's not stopping Disney from choosing Pine to lead "The Finest Hours." Penned by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson and based on the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, the film would tell the story of a 1952 Coast Guard mission to rescue the crew of two oil tankers that crash off the coast of Cape Cod. Robert Schwentke was originally set to direct, but now that he's busy with "Insurgent," Craig Gillespie ("Fright Night") is now in talks. [The Wrap] Fox is keeping their "Fantastic Four" and "Chronicle" star Michael B. Jordan in the family, snapping up the T.J. Fixman pitch "Men Who Kill" and developing it for the actor. No firm plot details, but tonally it's said to be "an international 'Bad Boys,' " which says about all you need to know.

Well, here’s some good news for those of us who have been just a little bit worried about Vince ever since Coach moved to Philly, Fox just bought a pitch that they will develop expressly as a star vehicle for Michael B. Jordan. He’s going to be ok, you guys. The project is called Men Who Kill, and it was pitched by T.J. Fixman. According to Deadline, it has an “international Bad Boys” kind of feel to it.

We won’t blame you if you’re unfamiliar with Jordan. Although he’s been around for a while now, having had television roles on shows like The Wire, Parenthood and Friday Night Lights, he didn’t really break out until 2012′s Chronicle. Even then, it took another full year for him to really put his name on the map, which he was able to do thanks to his powerful performance in Fruitvale Station.
Now, he’s an extremely hot commodity in Hollywood and is being groomed to become the industry’s next bankable leading man.

Meanwhile, Michael B. Jordan continues to line up projects... The young actor is reportedly attached to star in Fox's Men Who Kill, which the studio picked up a pitch for, to be developed by T.J. Fixman (Ratchet and Clank). Men Who Kill is described as "an international Bad Boys-style" feature action drama (referring to the Will Smith, Martin Lawrence franchise, which, by the way, is rumored to be seeing a 3rd film in the series). Details are being kept underwraps at the moment, as the studio is being tight-lipped on the pick up. Since his breakout role in Fruitvale Station (although he'd been around longer before that), Jordan has certainly been in demand. How much in demand? Let me...

After topping the box office last month with Identity Thief, Seth Gordon is returning to the fold for Universal to direct One Night on the Hudson, and he’s bringing along two brilliantly familiar faces to make it happen.
Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day worked with Gordon back on 2010’s Horrible Bosses. And having just signed on for Horrible Bosses 2 (alongside Jason Bateman, of course), Sudeikis and Day will be reuniting with Gordon for One Night on the Hudson, THR report.
“The story revolves around a by-the-books rookie cop on his first night on the job and his jaded veteran partner. The pair are tasked with transporting a federal witness from New Jersey to Manhattan. The only things standing between them: dirty cops, dirty criminals and the Hudson River.”
The film is described as a comedy-thriller, and I can’t wait to see what Gordon brings to the table here.
