Netflix made the big exciting announcement during the Super Bowl yesterday that The Cloverfield Paradox would be premiering right after the big game. Not long after the game ended I jumped on Netflix and watched it.
I had a blast watching the movie! I thought it was an extremely fun film. Look, I wasn't the biggest fan of the first Cloverfield movie, I thought 10 Cloverfield Lane was great, but this next installment of the franchise was definitely the most unique, and it played with some extremely crazy far-out ideas and concepts that I loved! A lot of critics aren't giving this film the credit that it deserves.
If you enjoyed the first Cloverfield movie, that's cool. I enjoyed it as well, but I personally thought it was film school level stuff. I thought this latest installment was so much better. 10 Cloverfield Lane is my favorite film in the franchise though.

Twitter is not feeling The New York Times’ latest recipe.
Thanksgiving dinner is traditionally a meat-lover’s paradise, so when the Nyt suggested their recipe for Brussels sprouts sliders would be everybody’s “new favorite Thanksgiving appetizer,” many users rushed to tell the venerable news organization that they were wrong.
The recipe in question features two roasted Brussels sprouts to create the effect of a bun, with tempeh in the center in place of meat.
“I would rather eat my own fingers,” wrote Bram Stoker Award-winning author Kealan Patrick Burke.

As another autumn approaches, horror hounds look forward to the chill of pumpkin guts on their hands, the crunch of leaves under their shoes, and, for some, pulling their copy of October Dreams: A Celebration of Halloween off the bookshelf for another round of seasonal reading. Published in 2000, Cemetery Dance’s collection of Halloween stories, reflections, and essays now has a sequel on the way.
Featuring an abundance of short pieces by a wide range of authors, October Dreams II: A Celebration of Halloween doesn’t yet have an official release date, but it is expected to come out soon in a hardcover edition from Cemetery Dance. The tome of terror includes stories by Ray Bradbury, Dean Koontz, Robert Bloch, and many more. We have the official release details and cover art below. To learn more or pre-order a copy, visit:

2013 was a good year for reading in general and horror in particular, so our current set of 365 days has some big shoes to fill. Here are a handful of titles coming out this year that I think are going to help 2014 meet those expectations.
Alien: Out of the Shadows by Tim Lebbon
January 28, 2014 - Titan Books
Tim Lebbon has a deft hand when it comes to working in established properties, having written novelizations and original books for fan favorites including 30 Days of Night, Cabin in the Woods and the Hellboy and Star Wars universes. Now he's taking on one of my favorite franchises – the Alien films. Out of the Shadows is an original novel that revisits the character of Ellen Ripley, who was of course brought to vivid life in the film series by Sigourney Weaver. It's the start of a new trilogy, the events of which lead directly...

When going through the new eBook releases this week, I ran into the anthology Midnight Symphony: 10 Novellas of Horror & Suspense edited by Robert Swartwood. I read through the contents of this huge book and immediately hit the buy button. It is an absolute steal at $0.99 (or £0.77 in the UK)!
This eBook is much longer than most books or novels, and it is filled to the rim with horror goodness! It is a collection of 10 novellas from some of the top indie names in the business. Kealan Patrick Burke, F. Paul Wilson, Tim Lebbon, Brian James Freeman... Oh heck, here, let me list the contents out for you real quick (with some quick comments by me):
"The Tent" by Kealan Patrick Burke (a creepy camping tale that is a must read for outdoorsmen…fun for the whole family…mmmwwwoooohaha!)

Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard ("Oculus") have sold their original low-budget horror pitch "Peekers" to Lionsgate.
Based on Kealan Patrick Burke's short story, the action begins when a terrified man walks into a police station to report that the residents on his entire street are missing, insisting victims were done away with by eerie, grinning doppelgangers.
When the man disappears from a locked interrogation room, a young female officer must venture out into the rapidly vanishing community to find her son. Lawrence Grey will produce.

It's the goo that just keeps on giving.
Filmmaker Gregory Lamberson is spreading his sticky celebration of 80s cult movies even further.
Slime City Massacre, which stars Debbie Rochon and Brooke Lewis and features cameos by Roy Frumkes and Lloyd Kaufman, is heading for Buffalo's Beyond Ghosts ParaHorror Weekend on May 26 following this month's screenings in Tampa and Las Vegas.
After slithering around the horror film festival circuit, Scm - which sees bomb survivors transformed into murderous slime creatures - was released on DVD in 2011 by Media Blasters and enjoyed a limited theatrical release from Indie Film Net.
"This is what it takes to make the audience aware of a film that defies easy categorisation," says Lamberson. "Scm is horror, it's sci-fi, it's action, it's bizarro comedy."
He added: "It took the original Slime City about 18 years to develop its reputation as a cult film; it needed to fade away and be rereleased and rediscovered.

Later this summer Slime City Massacre will be released theatrically through indieFilmNet’s new "Cinema Meets Horror" midnight movie-flavored series. Ifn will make the film available to as many as 60 digital theaters in North America, which can book it as a midnight show, single screening, or full-on engagement.
From the Press Release: “The media landscape has changed so drastically that the release pattern for independent films is changing as well,” says Lamberson, who wrote and directed Scm. “Filmmakers used to hope for a theatrical release, a VHS or DVD release, and then cable play. Now, with Video on Demand and streaming, everyone’s scrambling to find a new formula that works. IndieFilmNet is offering alternative programming at a time when big studios and multiplexes control what genre fans see on the big screen.”

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by director Greg Lamberson.
Director/writer: Greg Lamberson.
The Slime City Massacre is a follow-up to another independent horror feature titled Slime City (1988). This earlier film has developed a cult following, with this reviewer having no knowledge of director Greg Lamberson's previous work. Now, twenty-two years later, B-movie fans can find out what happened to cultist Zachary (Richard C. Sabin), after he transformed his essence into ectoplasm! This latest film, is full of low budget make-up effects, dilapatated sets and fluorescent bathed prop devices. There is a subtle charm here - somewhere. Slime City Massacre only rarely rises above the film's inherent campiness and this reviewer found the film mostly entertaining.
The film provides a dual timeline, with events occurring on-screen in 1959, with a prostitute (Brooke Lewis) being lured into a cult and in present day, plus seven years. A...

With the upcoming DVD release of Slime City Massacre right around the corner, I thought now would be an excellent time to look back at Greg Lamberson’s 1988 flick that started it all – Slime City. Put on your raincoats, my friends, because things are about to get messy.
Jason Bene: Although Slime City is a low budget film, it is quite ambitious. Where did you find the funding to make this cult classic?
Greg Lamberson: My producing partners (Marc Makowski and Peter Clark) and I put up about one third of the $50,000 budget ourselves; we bugged friends and family for another third, and a foreign sales rep named Alexander Beck put up the remainder. It was a different time when we started, because video was huge and no-budget films sold well. But by the time we finished, the bottom had dropped out of that market. So in one sense,...

Media Blasters announced late last year that they picked up Greg Lamberson’s Slime City Massacre for DVD and there is finally a release date! Scm will be released May 10th, 2011 through Media Blasters’ Shriek Show label which is responsible for such DVD releases as Frank Henenlotter’s Bad Biolgy and Lee Demarbe’s Smash Cut. Read beyond the break for more information about Scm.
Scm is the long awaited follow-up to Greg Lamberson’s Slime City (1988). The first installment centered on Alex, a student who just moved into a run-down New York City building. When he drinks a strange concoction whipped up by his bizarre neighbors he turns into a slimy, murder-craved lunatic. The movie lives up to its title with slime flowing endlessly from our protagonists blisters and boils and its sequel promises to deliver the same.

Here is the trailer for Slime City Massacre, Gregory Lamberson's sequel to his 1988 cult film Slime City . The new film is a post apocalyptic tale that pays tribute to 1970s science fiction films, 1980s horror films, and 1990s action films. It stars Debbie Rochon, Lee Perkins, Brooke Lewis, Kealan Patrick Burke, Jennifer Bihl, original Slime City stars Robert Sabin and Mary Bogle, and features appearances by Roy (Street Trash) Frumkes, Troma founder Lloyd Kaufman, and Dick Biel (Splatter University). "Slime City Massacre takes place several years after the events in the original film. The bizarre New York City neighborhood known as Slime City is devastated by a “dirty bomb” attack. In the wake of the attack, the now radioactive Slime City has been evacuated by the government. The only people who remain are a haggard assortment of homeless slimeheads and a pack of pimps, prostitutes, and drug dealers that...

Lamberson says,“Because Slime City Massacre is a celebration of 1970s science fiction films, 1980s horror films, and 1990s action films, Stephen was the perfect choice to do this poster and the other artwork. After Shock Festival, he’s become the preeminent grindhouse artist.”

Although I’m generally not a fan of opportunistic directors who revisit previous successes for new material once the creative well has run dry, Greg Lamberson’s follow-up to his gory 1988 cult classic “Slime City” has the potential to be something special. “Slime City Massacre,” which stars Debbie Rochon in addition to newcomers Jennifer Bihl and Kealan Patrick Burke, takes the concept touched upon in the first film and cranks it up several disgusting notches, which, if you’re going to a sequel 21 years after the fact, is the smart thing to do. The film also features cameos from genre favorites Lloyd Kaufman and “Document of the Dead” director Roy Frumkes, just to name a few. As a fan of the original, as well an unabashed follower of 80’s splatter cinema, I’m all sorts of excited. And because Lamberson is well-versed in the ways of self-promotion, there’s always...

Writer/director Gregory Lamberson announced that shooting has been completed on his new sequel Slime City Massacre, and sent along some exclusive photos (see ’em below). The movie, which shot for 19 days on assorted Buffalo, NY locations, follows survivors of a dirty bomb attack on Manhattan as they become the victims of an elixir that turns them into gooey creatures possessed by the spirits of long-dead cultists.
“Despite our low budget, this was the biggest film I’ve ever worked on,” says Lamberson of Massacre, which stars Jennifer Bihl, Kealan Patrick Burke, Fangoria Radio’s Debbie Rochon, Lee Perkins, Brooke Lewis, Tommy Sweeney, Roy Frumkes, Eric Mache, original Slime City lead Robert C. Sabin and Lloyd Kaufman. “We had four characters who become Slime Heads, five who were mercenaries, eight who were cannibals and 50 homeless people. My director of photography, Chris Santucci, did some amazing shots and the entire cast performed beyond my wildest expectations.

One of the more interesting aspects of filming Slime City Massacre was "actor house." Instead of spending a lot of money for the movie's out-of-town actors to stay in expensive hotel rooms, director Greg Lamberson, rented a run down, four bedroom house for them to stay in. The "actor house" provided shelter for: Debbie Rochon, Lee Perkins, Kealan Patrick Burke, Lloyd Kaufman, Roy Frumkes and even Horror Yearbook's own Andrew Walsh and myself. In the age where reality TV is king, we all know that forcing four strangers to live with one another could be a recipe for disaster, but for the most part the "actor house" experiment was a positive one, allowing the cast to get to know each other and develop a bond that showed in their work on the film. For an example of this bonding experience and to see Debbie Rochon hunting rats check out the video titled,...

Filmmaker Gregory Lamberson sent along word that he and his cohorts on Slime City Massacre, the sequel to his 1988 splatter flick (see our last report here), have started posting Slime City Survivor webisodes chronicling the making of the movie. It’s more interesting—and possibly more dramatic—for people to follow the production’s progress on-line almost as it happens, sort of like Project Greenlight did on cable TV.”

Today director Greg Lamberson sent us a few pictures of SFX make-up tests with Jennifer Bihl, and a really great picture of Slime City aka midtown Manhattan after a dirty bomb has wiped it out. Slime City Massacre follows Alexa (Bihl) and Cory (Kealan Patrick Burke), two fugitives from a totalitarian government who hide out in “Slime City." They team up with the survivors, Alice (Debbie Rochon) and Mason (Lee Perkins), who discover the Himalayan yogurt and strange wine that brought the fuckery and madness in the original Slime City. Like any sequel Scm promises to deliver more gore and four times the slime!
