On a streak like few other directors working today, Christian Petzold’s mesmerizing, humorous Rohmer-esque drama Afire was the finest film of last year. The German director is now swiftly beginning his next project, set to kick off production this spring.
Miroirs No. 3 will mark Petzold’s fourth collaboration with Paula Beer following Transit, Undine, and Afire. Beer will play “a young music student who has to restructure her life when her boyfriend dies in a car crash in the countryside,” Screen Daily notes in an update that it’s received funding from Germany’s Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, while also receiving backing from the state ministry for culture and media (Bkm) and script funding from the German Federal Film Board (Ffa).
The feature’s produced by Petzold’s production company Schramm Film Koerner Weber Kaiser. We also dug up an expanded, translated synopsis: “The young piano student Emily from Berlin is...

On set for her “Make You Mine” music video, Madison Beer is as commanding behind the camera as she is in front of it. The singer and songwriter took Rolling Stone behind the scenes of the shoot as she co-directed and starred in a four-minute take on Karyn Kusama’s Jennifer’s Body. Set at a high school, Beer meets with her team of cheerleaders first, stepping into cheer routines and doing makeup checks in between approving footage.

The cult classic Jennifer’s Body served as the perfect backdrop for Madison Beer’s possessive passion in the music video for her latest single, “Make You Mine.” The singer and songwriter co-directed the four-minute flick with Aerin Moreno while slipping into the role of Megan Fox’s Jennifer with Sadie Scheufler as Amanda Seyfried’s Anita “Needy” Lesnicki from the 2009 horror-comedy.

Writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Pet Sematary prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines didn’t go over well with a lot of genre fans – including myself – but it was a big success for the Paramount+ streaming service. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, “The movie debuted as the No. 1 title on Paramount+ and quickly broke the streamer’s record for the most-watched Paramount+ original movie within the first 30 days of a film’s release in the U.S.” So it’s no surprise that Paramount has renewed their first-look deal with Anderson Beer and her production banner Lab Brew, allowing the filmmaker to continue developing a slate of projects for the studio. This slate includes the new version of Sleepy Hollow that Beer was said to be working on back in 2022.

With Greta Gerwig’s Barbie having proven how lucrative Doll Cinema can be, Mattel is further cashing in: The company and Paramount have teamed up to develop a feature film based on their historical American Girl dolls.
Lindsey Anderson Beer, who most recently wrote the Stephen King spinoff film Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, is set to write and produce the as-yet-untitled American Girl movie: “Growing up, my sister and I were American Girl girls,” Beer said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). “They didn’t feel like dolls to play with, rather real people whose worlds we got to imagine ourselves in. They are historically accurate toys and accessories that feature elaborate and immersive backstories uniquely suited to bring to screen.”

After the $1.4 billion success of Barbie, Mattel Films is putting another one of its beloved doll lines on the development track.
Paramount Pictures and Maze Runner and Twilight outfit Temple Hill are developing a feature project based on the American Girl dolls, with Lindsey Anderson Beer, who recently worked with Paramount on Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, is set to write and produce the project.
Talks between Mattel, Paramount, and Temple Hill began earlier this year.
The American Girl doll line started in the late ’80s, and features dolls with historically accurate backgrounds, the idea being they represent different eras of American history. The line included supplementary books about the dolls’ lives. The first three dolls in the line — Molly, Samantha, and Kirsten — represented the World War II era, turn-of-the-century America, and 19th century farmland, respectively.
Said Beer, “Growing up, my sister and I were American Girl girls. I had Kirsten, and she had Molly.

Warning: The following contains major spoilers for Pet Sematary (2019) and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (2023).
In the Master of Horror’s vast collection, few stories cast a shadow so dark as Pet Sematary. Stephen King’s 1983 novel follows Louis Creed and his young family as they fall victim to the grim shadow of death lurking in the woods behind their new house. When the family’s cat Church dies, their friendly neighbor Jud Crandall leads Louis past the charming Pet Sematary deeper into the forest to a burial ground where the dead don’t rest easy. As darkness creeps closer, Louis’s young son Gage becomes the busy road’s next victim and the grieving father attempts to harness whatever power lies beyond the Pet Sematary to reverse the terrible tragedy threatening to destroy his life.

One of Stephen King’s best — and bleakest — tales of horror has a new beginning with “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.” Directed and co-written by Lindsey Anderson Beer (”Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”), the prequel heads back long before the Creeds came to town and follows Jud Crandall (Jackson White) as a young man in Ludlow, Maine, where ancient evil lurks and a corrupted patch of land holds the power to bring back the dead. But of course sometimes dead is better, and “Bloodlines” tells the story of exactly how Jud learned that hard lesson the first time.
The film also has a starry cast, including David Duchovny, Henry Thomas and the legendary Pam Grier. But despite what you might expect for a King adaptation with that pedigree, “Bloodlines” is a streaming exclusive and isn’t heading to theaters, which means you can watch the new “Pet Sematary” movie at home right now.

"Pet Sematary: Bloodlines" is a horror prequel with a unique challenge. How do you take one of the most terrifying chapters in Stephen King's scariest book and expand it into an entire film? The chapter in question concerns a young not-quite-dead man named Timmy Baterman and the very-much-alive Jud Crandall, who will one day age into that haunted next door neighbor with some dark wisdom: "Sometimes, dead is better." Told as brisk flashback in the original text, Jud's most upsetting encounter with the cursed land that brings the dead back to life is an unsettling moment in a novel defined by unsettling moments. It was only a matter of time before someone expanded it into a full-blown feature film.
That challenge fell to co-writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer, who has made a film that functions as a prequel to the 2019 adaptation of the novel, but also stands alone as its own story.

There is one fundamental thing about every single Stephen King story. In able hands, all of them can be made into exciting cinema. Unfortunately, though, that is not the case with Lindsey Anderson Beer’s prequel of the 2023 horror film, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. I am not exactly a fan of the 2019 version of King’s Pet Sematary, which was a rather generic adaptation that couldn’t quite do justice to the source material. It had reliable actors like Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Litngow, who all did their best, but the film didn’t quite have the punch that was needed. Making a prequel to that clearly doesn’t make any sense, at least to me, but the latest obsession with turning a classic horror novel into a dull, mediocre film is too hard to avoid for some people, I suppose. And truth be told, we only fuel this...

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (read our review) marks the directorial debut of Lindsey Anderson Beer, a much-in-demand screenwriter who’s served in the writer’s rooms of some of the biggest franchises out there. Notably, she’s worked closely with J. J. Abrams on breaking a story for the fourth Star Trek movie and was one of the writers involved with Quentin Tarantino when he flirted with joining the franchise. In a wide-ranging interview with THR, Beer gives a little insight into what it was like working with Tarantino, which she said made for one of the most fun experiences she ever had working in a writer’s room.
While Tarantino is known for being a solo writer, Beer says the auteur was very open to hearing everyone’s ideas for what his Trek movie could be.
“We got in there, and he started with, “So what are your guys’ ideas for a movie?...

Plot: Pet Sematary character Jud Crandall has his first run-in with the walking dead in 1969.
Review: If you’re reading this review, you’re probably aware that the Stephen King novel Pet Sematary deals with an ancient Miꞌkmaq Tribe burial ground in the wilderness surrounding the town of Ludlow, Maine. Any dead animal or human that gets buried in this ground will be resurrected – but they don’t come back quite right. In the book, lifelong Ludlow resident Jud Crandall tells the story of Timmy Baterman, a local boy who died in World War II and was buried in the resurrecting ground by his father. That didn’t turn out well. Now, following a 1989 adaptation of Pet Sematary, a sequel to that adaptation, and a 2019 remake / re-adaptation of Pet Sematary, director Lindsey Anderson Beer brings us Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, which expands the Timmy Baterman story into feature length… but as...

Guillermo Del Toro often says that a filmography is actually a biography for the filmmaker involved, but in the case of Lindsey Anderson Beer, her filmography doesn’t come close to telling her story.
Beer is currently making her feature directorial debut with Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, a prequel to Stephen King’s classic horror novel Pet Sematary (1983) that explores Jud Crandall’s (Jackson White) backstory and finally defines the Timmy Baterman (Jack Mulhern) story that has only been alluded to in various on-screen adaptations. The Paramount+ film originally began as a prequel to 2019’s Pet Sematary, however, once Beer came on board to write and direct, Bloodlines instead morphed into a prequel to King’s book.
“I was actually not trying to tailor it to the 2019 film. In my head, it’s a prequel to the book,” Beer tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I was just trying to do my own thing,...

“The ground is sour,” Stephen King‘s characters famously warned of the cursed burial ground in Pet Sematary. Paramount+ original prequel movie Pet Sematary: Bloodlines explores this further by visiting Jud Crandall’s early encounters with the sour ground, and Bloody Disgusting has been provided with an exclusive clip introducing the horror.

Kilian Riedhof’s “Stella. A Life.,” which has its world premiere at the Zurich Film Festival, tells the tragic, fact-based story of Stella Goldschlag, a young Jewish woman in Berlin who, in order to survive, cooperates with the Gestapo to betray other Jews.
The film stars Paula Beer, who won the awards for best actress at the Berlin Film Festival and the European Film Awards for “Undine” in 2020, as well as the award for best young actor or actress at Venice in 2016 for “Frantz.”
Riedhof came across Goldschlag’s story around 20 years ago in a newspaper: “The photo of a blond, beautiful woman, very lively, on Kurfürstendamm in the middle of Berlin – for me it was a very modern woman.”
Headlined “The Blond Poison,” the article told the story of Goldschlag’s role as a Gestapo informant who betrayed hundreds of people, including friends and acquaintances.

Pet Sematary has been sequelized, rebooted, and now with the arrival of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines it has a prequel. Adapting Stephen King’s works for the screen is a risky enough proposition, creating new stories based on them even more so as anyone whose seen a few Children of the Corn sequels or reboots can attest. King himself however seems to be happy with this film and tweeted:
“In the book, this is the story Jud Crandall tells Louis Creed to try and dissuade him from using the Pet Sematary,” wrote King. “The screenplay takes a few liberties, but it’s a fine story. David Duchovny is excellent. The secret, as always, is caring about the characters.”

Singer Madison Beer has been in the spotlight since she was barely a teenager when Justin Bieber found her YouTube covers and signed her to the same record label as him. But just because she's famous doesn't mean she was able to avoid the messiness of dating as a teenager. We've all been there, but she's had to go through all of it in the public eye. Like most young people, she's had a few relationships, some of which ended because of some pretty serious stuff, while others naturally ended like many relationships do.
In 2020, though, Beer began dating TikToker Nick Austin, and things seem to still be going strong between them. The 24-year-old star has also had a creatively fruitful past few years - she published her memoir "The Half of It" in April 2022, and her second studio album, "Silence Between Songs," drops on Sept. 15. "I am so excited...

I love a good procedural picture all about journalists. I can't quite explain it — call it competency porn? — but there's something thrilling about watching pieces of entertainment focused on journalists doing their jobs. Pounding the pavement, getting scoops, running down leads, taking copious amounts of notes in tiny flip notebooks. That's the sort of stuff that has me sitting up and pointing at the screen like I'm Leonardo DiCaprio. Which means I was already sort of in the tank for "Boston Strangler" Matt Ruskin's mostly okay thriller about the female journalists who first put the pieces together and discovered a serial killer was stalking Boston in the 1960s.
There's plenty of Journalism Stuff going on here, as the characters work the phones and peck away at their typewriters, using the power of words to help catch a killer! How can you not be at least a little jazzed about that?...

If there’s one thing Madison Beer knows how to do, it’s slay. On Friday, the singer released her single “Showed Me (How I Fell in Love With You),” which flaunts the singer’s sexier, sultry side. vIn the track’s accompanying video, she puts that sultriness to work as she defeats an underground poker star at his own game.
The Lauren Dunn-directed music video captures Beer as she arrives at a mansion party and is introduced to a mystery man, a “billionaire who plays underground poker games.
