Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead: Bruce Campbell-scripted comic book series gets hardcover release
Last year, genre icon Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead) wrote the six-issue comic book series DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead, which started reaching store shelves in September of 2022. Now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that the six issues of the series are being gathered together in a hardcover collection that’s appropriately being referred to as the DC Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead Hardcover Collection. This hardcover book is expected to be released sometime in October.
Featuring artwork by Eisner and Harvey Award-winning artist Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets), DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead takes place in Berlin, 1944. The Nazis are flanked on all fronts by the combined Allied forces, and defeat seems inevitable. In a last-ditch effort to turn the tide of the war, Hitler and his team of evil scientists create a...

Bruce Campbell made his mark on the DC Universe with the DC Horror comic book series Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead last year, and a collected edition is on the way.
Written by Bruce Campbell, with art by comics legend Eduardo Risso, DC Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead Hardcover Collection will release in October 2023.
Created by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert, Sgt. Rock first appeared in June, 1959, in DC’s anthology comic Our Army at War Issue #83. His origin was set during World War II, where Sgt. Rock and his unit, the Easy Company, fought in the European Theatre.
The press release reminds, “The character became so popular that, in 1977, the Our Army at War series was renamed Sgt. Rock, and ran under the Sgt. Rock name until 1988.”
Sgt. Rock now returns in Bruce Campbell’s DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs.

“I was down on my luck and I just started knocking on doors,” Bruce Campbell jokes about how he ended up writing Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead for DC Comics. “If you got any work at all, anything I can do, I’ll sell you sell your comics on the street corner.”
The beloved actor and cult legend isn’t being serious. The reality is that DC Horror editor Katie Kubert, coincidentally the granddaughter of Sgt. Rock’s legendary co-creator, reached out to him thinking he’d be a good fit to write a horror comic. But despite Campbell’s superhero-ready good looks, and all the ways he’s flirted with the genre on screen during his career, wasn’t a comics expert. After looking through a DC encyclopedia breaking down potential characters, he was immediately drawn to the badass World War II hero of Sgt. Rock.

You may not be familiar with the lesser-known DC Comics character Sgt. Rock, but if you're a horror comic fan, you soon will be. The character of Sgt. Rock was created back in 1959 by Robert Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert. His last solo series was in 1988. Sgt. Rock is a WWII soldier who fought with his East Company, and while it's possible that you don't know him, he knows a friend of yours and mine: Superman.

So, a little later than planned, due to a certain super-villain called Covid-19, but the sequel of sorts to the Dark Nights:Metal event of a couple of years ago is here. That event, also overseen by Snyder and Capullo, introduced a dark multiverse that exists alongside the regular DC multiverse, the two connected by various metals. That first event focused mostly on Batman, that being Snyder’s main book at the time, and we got to see several nasty variations of Batman. Which was fun. It was very popular, with all the various tie-ins, so a sequel was inevitable. Just because you can make a sequel, though, should you? Let’s take a look.
Any book that start with Sgt. Rock, a burning Swamp Thing and a destroyed Themyscira certainly makes you pay attention. A point to make,...

Renowned graphic novel artists Andy Kubert (“Batman”) and Whilce Portacio,(“X-Men”) were on hand to share their vast experience at the Singapore ComicCon on Saturday. The event is a new addition to the annual Singapore Media Festival.
Kubert and Portacio said that, despite the popularity of comic books, it is quite hard to break into the industry, and that practitioners have to excel. Kubert is the son of legendary artist Joe Kubert (“Sgt. Rock”) and is a graduate of and teaches at The Kubert School, founded by his father. “I help a lot of newcomers come in,” said Kubert. “They have to be very good and talented. You will get rejected and rejected, but don’t ever give up. If you love it, stick with it.”
Speaking about writing versus art, Kubert said, “Writing is a whole different ball game, it’s a whole different set of muscles and I...

You know the old saying: One’s man’s trash is another man’s treasure. That applies to me and my pals so often.
Now, I realize I’m very blessed: I have a great bunch of friends. I share interests and/or a long history with each them. I guess that’s part of the definition of a friend. But we don’t all love the same stuff. And when it comes to Geek Culture, a bunch of my friends just aren’t that into it.
I pity those fools as I flip through the latest PaperGirls.
Freddie P is that type of friend. He’s a long-time pal. We grew up in the same small town, kept in touch through college and lived near another in those wild just-a-few-years-outta-college days. After that, we always stayed in touch. We’ve watched each other’s families grow up. We laughed...

Have we entered a new golden age for shark movies? Probably not, but that isn’t stopping Syfy from commissioning a “Deep Blue Sea” sequel 18 years after the original. The move follows the recent success of both “The Shallows” and “47 Meters Down,” not to mention Syfy’s own “Sharknado” series.

Michael Beach is starring in the film and, since he’ll also appear in next year’s “Aquaman,” it doesn’t seem premature to deem this a case of nominative determinism. Darin Scott (“House Party: Tonight’s the Night”) is helming this particular ship, which is already filming in Cape Town.
Here’s what former director Jack Perez said of the direction the sequel was originally going to take back when it was slated for a DVD release in 2009, according...

Samuel Fuller sure knows how to turn up the geopolitical tension, especially in a rip-roaring provocative atom threat adventure, that might have caused problems if anybody cared what movies said back when the Cold War was hot. Richard Widmark skippers a leaky sub to the arctic and discovers that the Chinese communists are going to start WW3 — and blame it on Uncle Sam. It’s an insane comic-book adventure about very serious issues — and we love it.

We could spend the rest of this year debating which American teevee show has been the weirdest, but Hogan’s Heroes has got to make the top 10 list.
The high-concept: Hogan’s Heroes is the story of a group of Allied prisoners-of-war who operate a highly effective spy and sabotage operation from a bunker beneath their prison building during World War II. Okay, that’s kinda weird. It’s also kinda in bad taste. Its weirdness is abetted by several additional factors, not the least of which is… there’s some truth behind the laughs.
There really was a WWII Pow named Robert Hogan who did time in a place called Stalag 13. He was Lt. Robert Steadham Hogan, a B24 pilot who was shot down on January 19, 1945 in while on a mission over Yugoslavia. Because he was an officer, Hogan was incarcerated in the Oflag 13 camp outside of Nuremberg because...

Legends Of Tomorrow’s season 1 finale delivers a time-jumping face-off with Vandal Savage, and a big tease of things to come...
This review contains spoilers
1.16: Legendary
The first season of Legends Of Tomorrow has come to an end. Looking back, it’s been something of a mixed bag featuring loads of big ideas and plenty of great performances alongside lapses of logic and some major superhero ineptitude. (Remember when Rip admitted he’d screw over everyone to save his family? Or when a nuke went off in Russia and The Waverider crew just wandered off?)
The finale episode carried on in this vein, with another huge-but-not-very-well-executed sci-fi concept being lobbed at this mostly likeable band of characters. We’ve spent all season building up to a showdown in 2166, only to find out now that Savage doesn’t actually want to rule the future at all. He wants to destroy it,...

Fans of Showtime's Ray Donovan will know Johnathon Schaech from his turn as the unfortunate Sean Walker in season 1, but he's also starred in numerous other TV series and movies over the years - including Tom Hanks' directorial debut, That Thing You Do. Tonight Johnathon makes his first appearance as Jonah Hex on Legends of Tomorrow, and he was kind enough to take the time to chat to us about his passion for Hex, possible future plans for the character, and much more. Cbm: Tell us a little about how you wound up nabbing the role of Jonah Hex, and were you aware of the character beforehand? Js: Yes, I grew up reading Jonah hex westerns and Sgt. Rock war comics. I auditioned and won the role, the description I was given read: "Late 30s-50s. A true legend of the Old West, a morally ambiguous gunslinger with a penchant for danger.

The renewal of The CW's "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" for a second season seems to have seen a change in plan for the series. A while back it was suggested by one of the producers that due to the nature of the show, it could be more an anthology style series with much of the key cast being swapped out with other iconic DC Comics characters.
Now though, TV Line says that isn't true and much of the original cast will still be in place for the second season and the producer talking about major changes to the cast was actually referring to the character's personalities and experience instead:
"Our team for Season 2, if not in the [physical] makeup of the team, will be changed in the way that [the characters] will be different [people] - meaning, Rip, Leonard, Sara et al will have been changed as people by their adventures during Season 1. Regardless...

It was a tumultuous week for left-leaning Marvel comics fans. A day after last Marvelous Da7e, Donald Trump held an event as counter-programming to the Gop political debate he wasn’t attending and the news broke that Marvel Comics CEO Ike Perlmutter had donated $1 million to Trump’s veterans event.
Considering the site is called Latino-Review and Donald Trump has previously insinuated most Mexicans are rapists, it probably doesn’t surprise anyone that I was angry that I pay money to Perlmutter’s institution. Then again, the comic book industry isn’t as big an entity as the superhero blockbuster movie industrial complex. If you don’t buy a comic, the first people financially damaged are the creators working on that book and not all of them are in a position to speak publicly in a way to make their displeasure with Marvel known.

The DC Comics universe on the small screen keeps expanding with word coming via the DC Instagram account that four more superhero characters from the comics will be coming to The CW's "Legends of Tomorrow".
The four teases were photos of singular items along with their related comic characters hiding in the background. The characters are: Hourman, Sandman (Not the Neil Gaiman one), Sgt. Rock, and Ma Hunkle (the first Red Tornado).
The teases come as over the weekend actor Johnathon Schaech, who plays bounty hunter Jonah Hex in episode eleven of the series, showed off a photo of his preparation for the five-day shoot for the role - hiding his facial prosthetics behind a phone and showing off part of his costume and tight physique instead.
"Legends of Tomorrow" continues airing on Thursday nights with the third episode to premiere tomorrow.

Legends of Tomorrow is raising the hero show bar in a big way for fans of DC comics. io9 reports that some pictures DC linked on their instagram account actually represent one silver age and three golden age heroes whom the legends will be teaming up with in the near future. Looks like the legends will soon be teaming up with Sgt. Rock, Hourman, Sandman, and Ma Hunkel...who was the original Red Tornado.
Comic fans are probably scratching their head at the last one. Why would DC choose to feature the original Red Tornado, who was literally an old woman without powers and fought crime with a pot on her head?

For today’s comic book readers, there’s an appetite for one flavor of Batman: brooding, angry, single-minded and largely one-dimensional. But for those of an earlier generation where the interpretation of Batman varied by editor and medium, there are other varieties to tickle the fancy and entertain the soul. After years of the unrelentingly grim animated fare, Cartoon Network and Warner Animation came up with a breath of fresh air in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. James Tucker and Michael Jelenic developed this series to mimic the days of Batman being a premier hero and collaborator, operating in a bright, colorful world filled with costumed heroes and crazy villains.
The show lasted three seasons and 65 wonderful episodes and late in 2014, Warner Archive finally released Batman: The Brave and the Bold: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray. There are 26 gloriously goofy half-hour episodes here and they are...

We have a look at some of the more obscure comic book movie ideas which nearly made it to the big screen…
We've recently been investigating the pile of nearly-made-its in the ever-growing world of cinematic comic book adaptations. You could be forgiven for thinking Hollywood will strap wads of cash to any old comic book writer who stumbles past their door, but so far we’ve written approximately 5,000 words that say otherwise.
First, we delved into DC’s chequered past and found heaps of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman projects that we’ll sadly never get to see (and some other projects we’re quite glad we’ll never have to sit through). We then did the same for Marvel, unearthing plans for a Paul McCartney Silver Surfer rock opera, James Cameron’s bizarre Spider-Man script ideas and an amazingly-cast Dazzler animation from the 1980s.

Word on the street is Warner Bros has announced a new venture, DC Nasty.
“DC Nasty is an adult film company created because Warner Bros sees an opportunity to fill a gap, plug a hole and make a big splash in a vastly underserved audience, grown fan boys who rent or buy porn almost 600 times more than video games or comics.”
This, from the Warner Bros Press release.
A recent ComicMix poll showed 92% of grown fan boys do not have wives or girlfriends, 80% make 5-6 figure incomes and in what was alarming to this reporter, 70-100% go blind by the time they are 50.
Rumors are flying as to who will head up the new venture. A high level unnamed source at DC thinks that a former DC executive who recently returned to the freelance ranks will run the new company.
An announcement is anticipated to be made at this years’ San Diego Comic Con.

John Constantine: Hellblazer Written by Garth Ennis Art by William Simpson and Steve Dillon Published by DC Comics, Vertigo Imprint
John Constantine is one of those comic characters a lot of people have written, but relatively few have really gotten right, like Wolverine or Paste Pot Pete. Originally cooked up by our old friend Alan Moore for his seminal (which is to say, bloody insane) run on “Swamp Thing”, Constantine is easily described as an “urban magus” but more accurately described as “a burned out, hard boiled ex punk-rocker in a trench coat that couldn’t be more dirty if it had been dragged through every major conflict in world history, who messes about with magic and gets in over his head 99% of the time and has to squirm his way out of it, usually getting people he cares about hurt or killed in the process”.
Or just “Bastard” as his friends might say.

This is a story I told to Joe Kubert. He loved it, said to write it up and he would use it as a backup in Sgt. Rock.
1943. Somewhere over Burma. The Dragonfly Squadron, inheritors of the famed Flying Tigers, is returning to base after flying a coverage mission for Merrill’s Marauders. First Lieutenant Meyer “Mike” C. Newell is flying wingman to his best bud, First Lieutenant Benjamin “Blackie” Blackstone. They met in training, and have been flying together ever since. The P-51D’s are pretty banged up, but the planes are the workhorses of the Cbi and the pilots are confident that they will make it back to base, even though Johnson’s aircraft is leaking hydraulic fluid.
It is the rainy season in Burma and the landing strip, cleared out of the jungle overgrowth by Army engineers and sun-baked and rock-hard during the dry months, is...

Comic fans can spot a Jack Kirby drawing from a mile away. His signature style and iconic creations have been setting the bar for other artists throughout his illustrious 58-year comic book career (and still for years after.) The man who first drew Captain America punching Hitler in the face in 1941 served on the western front of World War II just two years later. He returned home from the war and continued to serve us with classics like Sgt. Rock, The Avengers, X-Men, and countless others up until his death in 1994. Teaming with all-stars like Stan Lee, Kirby created the look and feel of many of our favorite heroes, most of which are still around today. Mr. Kirby, you've left us with a legacy that we can continue to celebrate every time we pick up a comic book. Your influence is undeniable and your legacy is incomparable, thank you.

Chicago – Face it, it is fun to see the major action stars of the 1980s, ‘90s and now – Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger – together again for “The Expendables 2.” Why the hell can’t anyone write a decent story for them?
Rating: 3.0/5.0
The film improves on the first movie, not that there was that a long way to go. The action is more relevant and bolder, plus the villainy of Jean-Claude Van Damme is smarmier, but the overall product is the same formulaic crap that plugs into any action film. There is a sense that this joke-filled concept should rise above the usual, and it doesn’t. Additionally Stallone (who co-wrote the screenplay) seems very tired going through the same action poses. It would have been better if the Expendables main mission prevented him from plotting “Rocky 7.”

On Sunday, August 12th 2012, the comic book industry lost another legend in artist Joe Kubert. Though not as well known outside the geek community for his work, Kubert is nonetheless a pioneer in the business. With a long running career stretching almost as far back as what many refer to as the Golden Age of Comics. Kubert is best known for his work in the late 50’s and the 60’s for DC Comics with characters including Hawkman, Tarzan, The Viking Prince and the war stories of “G.I. Combat” featuring Sgt. Rock and the Haunted Tank. In the 1960’s he and his wife Muriel moved to Dover, NJ and founded the Kubert School of Art, while raising their five children. Though he slowed on his art duties for comics he was a fixture at the school and his work has influenced many. Notable alumni from the school include Shane Davis (Superman: Earth One,...

The comic book industry has lost a legend. Artist Joe Kubert, co-creator of "Sgt. Rock" and founder of The Kubert School, died on Sunday (August 12) at the age of 85, just weeks before his 86th birthday. Best known for his work on Sgt. Rock, Hawkman and a number of other DC Comics characters, Kubert's long career spanned the 1940s all the way to his recent work on "Before Watchmen: Nite Owl," a project he worked on with his son Andy.
MTV Geek recently spoke with the pair about their "Watchmen" comic; check out the interview in the video below, and leave your thoughts for Kubert and his family in the comments section or on Twitter.

As we have already reported, Joe Kubert passed away over the weekend at age 85. Born in Poland in 1926, shortly before immigrating to the Us, Kubert was one of the few left whose careers stretched back to nearly the dawn of the comic book. He spent most of his career working for DC Comics, developing his own unique style and becoming most associated with Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace, Hawkman and the prehistoric Tor. Here are a few examples of his work.. For more covers, click the link back to Cbr below.

Joe Kubert’s distinct art style was one of the earliest I recall being able to identify. It seemed such a perfect fit the DC war titles and I was always pleasantly surprised to see the occasional superhero cover during the 1960s. I didn’t really get a sense of his lengthy tenure in comics until he was spotlighted in an issue of DC Special.
Then came Tarzan. I knew of the character but had not then read Burroughs or the Gold Key comics so this was an eye-popping revelation. It was my first sustained exposure to the jungle lord and Kubert’s artwork seemed an ideal fit. Thanks to DC’s expanded reprint program through the 1970s, I was exposed to more and more of his work and recognized a true artist.

Joe Kubert, legendary comic book artist, and father of comic book artists Andy Kubert and Adam Kubert has passed away at the age of 85. Kubert is probably best known for creating Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace and Tor, and recreating DC’s Hawkman. Kubert was inducted into the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1997, and Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998.
Kubert, along with his wife Muriel (who passed away in 2008) opened The Kubert School in New Jersey in 1976. The school is the only accredited institution devoted entirely to cartooning, and teaches the principles of sequential art, the craft of the comics industry, and commercial illustration.
Kubert leaves behind five children, Andy, Adam, David, Lisa, and Danny.

Joe Kubert, one of the greatest masters of the comics art form, died today after a short illness, three weeks short of his 86th birthday.
Best known as the artist of the long-running war feature Sgt. Rock, Joe was almost equally well-known for his work on both the golden age and silver age Hawkman and on such features as Enemy Ace, Tarzan, Firehair, Tor (which he created for St. John’s comics in the 1950s and owned and returned to throughout his life), the Tales of the Green Beret newspaper strip, and numerous other features and countless covers. In his later years he wrote and drew a great many graphic novels, both original creations (Jew Gangster, Fax from Sarajevo, Yossel) and based upon his well-established Tor and Sgt. Rock characters. DC is currently publishing his work as an inker on Before Watchman: Nite Owl, pencilled by his son Andy. He...

If Men in Black III isn’t the complete, utter disaster we’ve been expecting (anticipating?) for more than a year, Barry Sonnenfeld‘s name will… probably still mean nothing; I guess that’s better than being in director jail, anyway. Early word indicates the movie is merely “fine” — that’s more than Sony was hoping for a few months ago — and an additional good sign has come from the filmmaker himself, who revealed that he and Warner Bros. have been considering a franchise as of late.
Sonnenfeld said this much to Cbm, when asked about doing a superhero series:
“You know, I’m talking to Warner Bros. about doing a franchise based on a comic that hasn’t been around since the 60s. But it’s too early to talk about it. But possibly, yes.”
/Film made this astute observation: Warner Bros. means a DC character is, more than likely,...

All those who complain about the liberal domination of Hollywood have never come across John Milius. A film school pal of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, Milius had tried to join the Marine Corp, but was turned away due to his asthma. Instead, he channeled his frustrations into both a life-long obsession with firearms (he was paid for "Jeremiah Johnson" in antique weaponry, and has served on the NRA Board of Directors) and making some of the most masculine, testosterone-filled movies of all time, both as an acclaimed writer and as a director. The basis for both Paul Le Mat's character in "American Graffiti" and Walter in "The Big Lebowski" -- the Coens are friends of Milius, and offered him the part of Jack Lipnick in "Barton Fink" -- he's one of film history's most singular, colorful characters.

Award-winning graphic novel I Killed Adolf Hitler is being turned into a feature film. THR reports that Studio Eight has optioned the film rights to the 2007 Eisner Award Winner by Norweigan artist Jason (aka John Arne Sæterøy). Fantagraphics has recruited screenwriter D.C. Walker of Up Country Productions to adapt the film.
The story follows the "adventures of a hitman who encounters complications after traveling back in time to 1938 to assassinate Hitler." Jason's art has been compared to Herge, but it is not known if the film will be done with performance capture like The Adventures of Tintin. Studio Eight is responsible for such feature films as In My Country, Shadows in the Sun, and Goose on the Loose.
For some reason I have always been fascinated with Nazis and Hitler's regime. I grew up reading Sgt. Rock comics. Inglourious Basterds is one of my fave films, and this project sounds great.

John Severin, Eisner Hall of Fame winner and one of the last of the legendary EC artists, died Sunday in Denver, Colorado. He was 90.
Severin was among the greatest draftsmen of the EC crew. He was especially well known for his western comics and war comics, but worked across many genres, including a 45 year stint drawing for Cracked magazine, doing numerous parodies and creating the definitive version of the company mascot, janitor Sylvester P. Smythe.
In recent years he had continued to work, with his last new material coming from Dark Horse last year on Sir Edward Grey: Witchfinder.
His family has released a statement:

In the hopes of beating the Black History Month rush, I went to see Red Tails last weekend. George Lucas had been making the interview rounds and he discussed how difficult it was for him to get this film made. He ended up paying for it himself, but then couldn’t find a studio to distribute or market it. Apparently, they felt there was no profitable market for a film with no white actors in the leads.
That is so offensive that I had to prove them wrong. However, I missed opening weekend, and therefore probably contributed to the studio’s bigotry. And, if the truth be known, I don’t particularly like going to movies that draw crowds because I find most audiences unspeakably rude. However, in this case, I would suck it up. And also, I went at one o’clock in the afternoon on a Sunday.

The Before Watchmen Prequel comics. To buy or not to buy?
I’m getting ahead of myself. On the internet when news comes out about a controversial comic book project it seems as if the duty of every comic book geek to chime in with their opinion–without the product in their hand. The internet was invented so that people could bitch, right? So what I should really be asking is:
To judge or not to judge? First let’s look at what DC Comics is doing.
DC Comics announced early Wednesday that they are releasing seven Before Watchmen mini-series that will be prequels to the landmark graphic novel, Watchmen. Before you say it, take a look at the creative forces behind the books and see if you’re still in rampage mode.
• Rorschach (4 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: Lee Bermejo
• Minutemen (6 issues) – Writer/Artist: Darwyn Cooke
• Comedian (6 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello.

DC Entertainment has officially announced Before Watchmen, a prequel to one of the greatest comic books ever written. As a fan of the original comic, I think it's crazy that DC is going to revisit these characters and this universe. After 25 years, it just doesn't seem right. It's hard to believe that these new Watchmen comics will be as good as what writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons have created. Check out the details below, and let us know what you think about this.
Here's the full press release with all of the details:
This summer, DC Entertainment will publish all-new stories expanding on the acclaimed "Watchmen" universe. As highly anticipated as they are controversial, the seven inter-connected prequel mini-series will build on the foundation of the original "Watchmen," the bestselling graphic novel of all time. Before Watchmen will be the collective banner for all seven titles, from DC Comics.

For over twenty years, DC has wanted to capitalize on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' best-selling and standard-setting mini-series/graphic novel Watchmen by releasing additional stories featuring the same characters. Ideas about prequel series have been discussed since even before Watchmen's publication, with writer Alan Moore floating the idea of a Minutemen prequel series in '85, and other options being discussed afterward. Moore backed away from those ideas, and he and Dave Gibbons eventually walked away from DC altogether based, in part, on language in their contract for Watchmen that related to ownership of the characters. In 2010 DC offered to give Watchmen back to Moore if he would write additional stories, but he declined [1]. At the same time, DC Comics co-publishers Dan Didio and Jim Lee said, "DC Comics would only revisit these iconic characters if the creative vision of any proposed new stories matched the quality set...

Bleeding Cool delivered a significant Christmas present last week to comic book fans by posting two new pieces of cover art from the upcoming Watchmen prequels (referred to as ‘Panic Room’ around the DC Comics offices). Though it really has to be said it depends on your views on the project as to whether this is actually a wanted present or not.
First off is the Nite Owl cover art from father and son team Joe Kubert (Sgt. Rock) and Andy Kubert (Flashpoint).
Second, we have The Comedian by J.G. Jones (Final Crisis)…
The Watchmen prequels project consists of four mini series runs set before the legendary 1984 Alan Moore created graphic novel. We know the first two series will be about The Comedian and Nite Owl, but not much is known about the other two. There are some rumors one of them will focus on The Minutemen, a superhero...

We know the first two series will be about The Comedian and Nite Owl, but not much is known about the other two. There are some rumors one of them will focus on The Minutemen, a superhero...

Once again bleedingcool.com has more details of DC Comics rumored prequels to Alan Moore's classic comic book series. As a reminder yesterday they reported that artist Andy Kubert would be drawing one of the four mini-series, but today we have new specific details. Bleeding Cool says that not only is Andy Kubert going to be working on one of the prequels, but so is his father, Joe Kubert. Andy's father is the founder of The Kubert School a prestigious school for comic book artists located in New Jersey. Joe is best known for his work on DC Comics Sgt. Rock & Hawkman. The father and son team will supposedly will be working on a Nite Owl mini-series. This prequel is expected to involve the original Nite Owl and his replacement. A source has informed Bleeding Cool that Darwyn Cooke will be handling the writing duties on the Comedian series.

There’s been a lot of noise on two areas of the blogosphere that I follow – comics and politics – because Frank Miller recently posted about the Occupy Wall Street movement on his blog. My favorite response, as usual, was on TBogg’s blog, because I love me some snark.
See that photo over there? It’s had an honorable position on my refrigerator since it was taken about 15 years ago at the San Diego Comic Convention. It’s me and Frank, back when he could still walk the floor.
I’ve known Frank since the late 1970s. I met him soon after I met Denny O’Neil, and we hung out a lot when he was drawing the Amazing Spider-Man Annual #14. My friend, Legs McNeil <http://www.amazon.com/Legs-McNeil/e/B000APOLAA>, was (and is) a huge comic book fan. He managed a band, Shrapnel&tag=comi0a-20, that was essentially Sgt. Rock set to music. The patron comic book of Monday Mix-Up has always been The Brave And The Bold, a comic book that delighted in mashing up weird combinations of characters, usually Batman with characters that made almost no sense to combine with, like Deadman, Kamandi, Jonah Hex, Sgt. Rock, Adam Strange, Lois Lane, Scalphunter, the Legion of Super-Heroes, the Unknown Soldier, the Guardians of the Universe, the Joker, R’as al Ghul, and the House of Mystery. This tradition has been carried on in the TV series Batman: The Brave And The Bold, which has included many of those combinations and added Space Ghost to boot.
But for some, those combinations just aren’t going far enough. For those, we present The Brave And The Bold: The Lost Issues. Now you can find the missing team-ups with Batman and Jack Bauer, Iron Man 2020, Spider-Man 2099, Harvey Birdman, Groo, Galactus, Dirty Harry, Darth Vader, and Adam West.
