AwesomenessTV will no longer just focus on the teenage demographic. The YouTube multi-channel network started by CEO Brian Robbins in 2012 will launch a new network aimed at millennial moms dubbed Awestruck.
As a new lifestyle brand, AwesomenessTV’s Awestruck network will produce a variety of scripted and non-scripted content aimed at women with children and families. Show formats will include talk shows, documentaries, comedy, and more. The Awestruck programming will be available via YouTube, Facebook, and Verizon’s upcoming over-the-top service.
Sarah Penna, co-founder and chief creative officer of Big Frame (which used to have its own women’s network called Wonderly), will head Awestruck and its talent-seeking efforts. AwesomenessTV’s new network has also tapped YouTube Nation’s previous executive producer Zadi Diaz to lead Awestruck’s programming as Vice President of Programming and Development.

What do you get when you cross a Halloween party in a haunted mansion and the ability to immerse yourself and pick what happens next? That’s what YouTube Nation’s Halloween: Can You Survive? special wants to find out. Produced by Zadi Diaz and Steve Woolf and hosted by GloZell, the Halloween special allows viewers to pick their own adventure once the main storyline is set up. The special starts off with the Halloween party Tay Zonday is throwing for several other YouTubers in a haunted mansion he purchased (with some spooky sets designed by Guillermo Del Toro at the YouTube Space La). After Zonday warns the guests not to move any item from its location so as not to incite the anger of the spirit who lives in the estate, Steve Zaragoza runs into the room with a crystal he removed from the attic and consequently drops dead...

YouTube Nation is bringing viewers the best clips its parent site has to offer. Three months after it launched, YouTube's daily run-through of notable videos already has more than a million subscribers, thanks in part to its regular position on the YouTube Spotlight channel. Despite early success, YouTube Nation's creative team is still constantly tinkering. We talked to Executive Producers Steve Woolf and Zadi Diaz about the creative process that goes into YouTube's hottest new clip show. Tubefilter: Why do you think YouTube Nation has been able to gain new subscribers so quickly? YouTube Nation: We’re obviously thrilled and grateful that so many people have subscribed so quickly. And we’ve been around long enough to know better than to take it for granted. The shows we’ve made have had very consistent curation and production quality, and the team has made a point to keep the light on...

YouTube Nation has been met with a fair amount of skepticism. The daily video collaboration between YouTube and Dreamworks is meant to bring audiences (and, of course, advertisers) up to speed on what to watch on a video sharing site, to which a couple billion people around the world upload over 100 hours of content per minute. For one, individuals are skeptical because the premise is far from novel. Ray William Johnson has covered YouTube’s viral video circuit with aplomb since 2009. Phil DeFranco has given Gen Xers and Yers an informal, but informative take on current events, internet phenomenons, and ladies who are easy on the eyes by way of The Philip DeFranco Show since 2007 and by way of SourceFed since early 2012. Shira Lazar has interviewed burgeoning and established YouTube stars and personalities with household names on camera for internet audiences via What’s Trending since 2011. And a glut of...

Well, that was fun. For those of you who headed to Austin for South by Southwest, we hosted a little party with Jesse Draper and our friends at ValleyGirl.TV to kickoff SXSW Interactive and celebrate Tubefilter's panel Decision Trees: YouTube's New Breed of Interactive Storytellers. The turnout was spectacular. The best and brightest of online video filled the open air patio at the Cedar Door, an Austin classic just a block away from the Convention Center. Check-ins on Foursquare unlocked the "Valley Girl Margarita," a potent take on the Door's classic Mexican Martini. Free beer, great weather, and killer soft tacos made for a great evening enjoyed by all (free food Ftw). SXSW Keynote speaker Felicia Day stopped in along with new media uber-agent George Ruiz, Diggnation's Alex Albrecht and Zadi Diaz of Epic Fu. The omni-present Tim Street sported a new look, Shira Lazar and Julia Allison...

YouTube: The Movie? Not really, but with all the hype around the upcoming Aaron Sorkin penned Facebook movie—The Social Network—we were bound to see a YouTube parody on the movie’s compelling trailer. This one (above) from Jeff Loveness actually makes us want to see that movie more than the Facebook one. “You like being a joke Keyboard Cat? You want to go back to that?! I made you!” [YouTube] Whitney Port, star of The City, MTV’s popular New York spinoff of The Hills, is set to star in a web series next month, according to sources of NY Magazine’s Vulture blog. The web series is Alloy Entertainment’s recently announced scripted project Hollywood Is Like High School With Money, which is set to premiere on September 14 on AlloyTV.com. Also joining the cast is Ian Harding (Liars) and Brian Hallisay (Privileged), who both had previous roles in Alloy-produced series.

The Webventures of Justin & Alden might have one of the deepest casts of web series notables that we’ve seen to date. Fitting, since the new five-episode branded comedy web series from Cjp Digital Media and lead sponsor Trident Layers (disclosure: Trident is also a Streamy Awards sponsor) is all about two would-be internet-famos set to find web video glory by making “the greatest Web series Web show that’s ever been on the Web computer.” Justin Tyler and Alden Ford, both regulars at sketch comedy theater Ucb in New York, star as the hapless titular duo in this Bill and Ted’s-style (yes, there’s even some time travel) road trip. On a windy, overcast Sunday afternoon the 2010 Streamy Awards took over the Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Even though the FearNet webseries “Fear Clinic,” directed by Robert Hall and starring genre favorites Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Danielle Harris, and Lisa Wilcox, stood alone to represent our favorite genre, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a gaggle of horror-related goodies to indulge in while working the red carpet event before the show.
Before the Streamy Awards were under way, Dread Central’s red carpet team of Heather Wixson and Brian Smith had the opportunity to catch up with some new faces in horror as well as some of the genre’s most beloved personalities.
Since we never want to deprive our readers of any sort of awesomeness, Dread Central has cooked up two videos from the Streamy Awards red carpet event. The first video is chock-full of interviews.

The smart ones did. If you are serious about creating online entertainment there is absolutely no reason that attending SXSW Interactive (SXSWi) shouldn't be on your must-go list. The five day conference, which just wrapped up Tuesday night drew 12,000 of social media and web junkies for a non-stop, bleary-eyed bender of business cards, panels, free BBQ and new connections. It was like camp for internet people. And that's my point. If you're making any kind entertainment on the web, you are internet people. Meeting other internet people is part of your job. The apps and tools that are emerging out of the developers at SXSW matter to your web series. Entertainment on the internet spent the past 5 years learning how to go from crawling to standing up and making its first wobbly steps. Now it's 2010 and mainstream eyes are gooing over this clever toddler of a medium. The really interesting...

The nominees for the 2010 Streamys were announced today. The Streamys celebrate online television programming and this year they have a fantastic line up of nominees. Last year was the Streamys debut year and the winners included high profile shows such as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and the exceptional Battlestar Galactica web series The Face of the Enemy.
This year there is even more competition with some really interesting content now being released on the web rather than through more traditional media routes. Two of my favourites from this year’s nominee list are the excellent Interview Project which is presented by davidlynch.com and the slightly flawed but thoroughly enjoyable Angel of Death, created by Ed Brubaker and starring Zoe Bell, which also received a DVD release last year.
The awards ceremony takes place on April 11th 2010 and the full list of nominees is listed below with handy links...

Zadi Diaz and Steve Woolf dazzled the crowd at the sold-out Tubefilter Web TV Meetup last night in Los Angeles. Nearly 400 web series creators, talent and execs braved the rain and hail to make it out to hear from the two esteemed web video veterans. Before getting into the Q&A, they debuted the newest episode (above) of their award-winning Epic Fu before it went live online late last night. Early reviews of the new 'season' of Epic Fu are positive, noting that the new, slightly shorter format (episodes are now about 5 min) made for a tighter, more focused show. But Fu fans will get two more episodes per week, extending the series into a mini-network of sorts, adding "Music Mondays" and "Film Thursdays" to their weekly lineup. The panel discussion delved into the show's early days, when it first launched as The Jetset Show back in June of 2006. Back...
