In the "Star Trek: Prodigy" episode "Mindwalk", the crew of the U.S.S. Protostar has learned that their ship is infected with an insidious computer virus planted by the evil Diviner (John Noble). It seems that the virus can be spread through mere communications channels, meaning Dal (Brett Gray), Gwyn (Ella Purnell), and the rest of the Protostar teens can't explain who they are to the grumpy Admiral Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) pursuing them in a massive vessel called the U.S.S. Dauntless. If the virus infects a ship, its systems will be rewired to automatically attack other Federation vessels. The Diviner aims to destroy the Federation before a cataclysmic future event occurs; the Diviner, naturally, is a time traveler.
With the Dauntless on their tail, Dal realizes that he can communicate with Janeway. Dal, it seems, has some mild and latent telepathic abilities, and reaches out to communicate directly to Janeway's brain.

Star Trek has endured since 1966 largely in part to the creators refusing to speak down to their audiences. Whereas “The Cage”, the first pilot shot in 1964, was deemed “too cerebral” by NBC execs, the show that made it on air rarely stopped being thought-provoking. When the three season mission ended, its next iteration was on Saturday morning television, where, once again, the writers and production team refused to dumb things down.
The best that the universe first imagined by Gene Roddenberry does for the viewer is present allegories and mine the human condition, optimistically seeking the best way for humanity to act. Its positive message was a balm in the turbulent 1960s and has been needed ever since.

DC Comics' "Green Arrow" #43, available August 1, 2018, is written by Julie Benson, Shawna Benson and illustrated by Javi Fernandez, with covers by Alex Maleev and Kaare Andrews:

Clinging to something that is already lost is a fascinating turn for a story to take, especially when the characters involved are fighting until the very end to gain back that control that is slipping away from them.
"The Warriors Will," written by Shawna Benson and Julie Benson, was an episode coated in blood and surrounded by fire. It was the perfect way to explore how an addiction can drive a story or in this case the characters within the story.
The need to keep a bad presence in their lives was a recurring pattern, spanning across multiple arcs and the resulting consequences that came from them. It was explored in a way that directly mirrored the suffering that went on because of these addictions, not just for the person addicted but for those around them.
Octavia, Madi, and Abby all similarly battled something that was bigger than all of them,...

So far, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey has been one of the series that has most defined Rebirth’s mission statement by re-establishing a beloved team of superheroes, effectively placing the focus on the characters many devoted fans think of when this title is mentioned. Now, admittedly, Batgirl occupies a fair amount of the spotlight (notice that her name precedes the team, similar to that of Batman and the Outsiders or Red Hood and the Outlaws), but knowing that Black Canary and Huntress are back in the fold undoubtedly provides longtime readers with a measure of comfort.

Comic Books 101: DC Rebirth Review 2017!
DC Comics had an overall week ending to their New 52 run. Many of the series just petered out, with only a few having any significant sendoff (Batman, Jla, Superman. They announced is DC Rebirth (You can see the lead up to DC Rebirth in my article here DC Comics Then And Now) an attempt to “get back to basics” for many of their characters. New creative teams, no visions for their books, and less crossovers! Phase 1 of the relaunch so far has been a huge success, the months of June-August were predominantly DC books in the top sales, and many fans have enjoyed the new stories regarding their favorite characters.

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 09-14-2016
DC is settling into its new focused style of content storytelling, and producing some fantastic stories thanks to the new approach. While mostly everything has been a hit, there have been a few snags as well. One issue I keep having is trying to figure out how it all “fits” together in a bigger picture. Some books seem closer connected others; some appear not connected all to the larger DC Universe. This might not be a problem for most, it can be a little jarring for me, when I’m reading Batgirl is running around Japan in her book, but is also hanging out with Huntress and Black Canary in the Birds of Prey series, while appearing in Nightwing and referencing her time currently in Japan, but Black Canary appears in Green Arrow without any indication she’s even been to Gotham or around Batgirl.

DC Comics has been killing it with sales lately, and for good reason! The Rebirth has been a success with almost every series delivering well-written and illustrated stories. Whatever editorial direction Geoff Johns put the company on, it’s worked! The characters feel fresh and new again, while still keeping true to the status quo set up in the New 52 Universe. Could the books do a slightly better job at feeling more “interconnected” (No that doesn’t mean crossover!)? Sure! But regardless, each individual series feels very well put together and on a focused plot. So without further delay, check out the hot books from this week’s DC Comics Rebirth line up!
