Creating an original, elevated horror sequel that not only capitalizes on the tension and fear that the series’ original movie created, but is also entertaining and thought-provoking in its own right, can be a challenge for any filmmaker or actor. In the new drama, ‘The Reef: Stalked,’ the follow-up to the 2010 horror movie, ‘The […]

Today, writer/director Andrew Traucki’s The Reef: Stalked arrives in theaters and on Shudder. Starring Teressa Liane, Ann Truong, Saskia Archer, and Kate Lister, the sequel follows a group of women who come together for an idyllic kayaking trip after losing someone close to them to domestic violence. But when they encounter a bloodthirsty shark determined to make them its next victims, they must band together so they can survive the horrors awaiting them in the water.
Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Traucki about The Reef: Stalked (nearly 11 years to the day that this writer last spoke to the filmmaker about The Reef), and during our conversation, he discussed how the stars aligned to make the sequel more than a decade later, why it was important for him to focus part of this story on the issue of domestic violence, the challenges he faces while making his naturalistic thrillers,...

Despite the title and presence of writer/director Andrew Traucki, The Reef: Stalked is not a sequel to The Reef. Rather, like his films Black Water and Black Water: Abyss they’re unrelated films that share only a common monster, crocodiles in Black Water, and sharks in The Reef.
This time around we’re introduced to diving enthusiast Nic. After she finds her sister Cath dead, drowned in the bathtub by her abusive boyfriend Greg however that changes.
Nine months later she can’t even see water let alone resume diving, without imagining her sister’s death. Hoping it’ll be therapeutic she joins her old diving crew Jodie and Lisa, and her other sister Annie (Saskia Archer; Bali 2002) at the beach. Their kayaking trip turns out to be anything but...

In a world full of schlocky shark films, if you want yours to be taken more seriously, it pays to set the right tone from the start. This sequel to 2010’s The Reef (with the same director if not – for obvious reasons – the same cast) opens with four young women messing about in water. Two things stand out about them: firstly, two of them are competent spear fishers, and secondly, their swimwear, whilst skimpy, is built to flatten rather than flatter – it’s actually designed for swimming in. They may be playful but they also know how to be serious.
This matters because they’re about to have to deal with a serious situation, way before we see any sharks, when one of them falls victim to a more mundane type of predator. It’s an incident which leaves heroine Nic (Teressa Liane) reeling. Although she puts up a good.

"It's not gonna stop!!" Rlje + Shudder have debuted a final, wild trailer for The Reef: Stalked, the shark horror movie out in theaters this week - starting on July 29th. The Reef: Stalked is a sequel to Australian director Andrew Traucki's shark movie The Reef from 2010, and Traucki returns to write & direct this one 12 years later. After her sister's murder, Nic, her younger sister and two friends seek solace through a Pacific island kayaking adventure. Hours into the trip the women are stalked by a shark and must band together, face their fears and save each other facing the beast. This movie stars Teressa Liane (from "The Vampire Diaries"), Ann Truong (seen in "Cowboy Bebop"), Saskia Archer, Kate Lister, and Tim Ross. These trailers have not been that impressive, especially with so many other shark movies this year. There's barely any clear shots of the shark, just a lot of screaming.

Despite some good suspense, this all feels too familiar as a shark with a hefty appetite seems irrationally keen to feast on the protagonist
Director Andrew Traucki’s sequel to his own 2010 feature The Reef features a whole new cast of Australian characters battling a hefty shark near the Great Barrier Reef, but it’s essentially the same idea. Only this time round, the nearly entirely female cast features two sisters and two of their friends on a kayaking excursion that goes wrong but not through any fault of their own. Indeed, in a break with the traditional blame-the-humans strategy of these sort of when-animals-attack stories, the landlubbers aren’t being punished by the universe for hubris, or a failure to heed the warnings or some such.
That said, the past does shape the story: main protagonist Nic (Teressa Liane) was traumatised nine months earlier when her other sister was murdered by an abusive partner,...

"We head for that island, it'll come for us again. It's not gonna stop." Written and directed by Corey Pearson, The Spy Who Never Dies is a quirky action rom-com about an international spy named Brad (Paul O’Brien), who’s sick of saving the world and is looking for more from life, in fact just a “normal” life. A life with no guns, no villains, no recovering plutonium. A serendipitous event (as in Brad stealing a dog post-assassination) has Brad meeting a seemingly normal girl named Veronica (Georgia Walters) a smart, cute, vet. Veronica has a congenital heart condition, any excessive elevation in her adrenaline and heart rate could end her life. On top of that, she is allergic to bees, so a recipe for disaster… probably.

Survival thriller aficionado Andrew Traucki has commenced production on his latest project The Reef: Stalked, a sequel to 2010’s The Reef.
Filming began today in Queensland’s Bowen and will continue for six weeks.
Teressa Liane (The Vampire Diaries), Ann Truong Kate Lister and newcomer Saskia Archer make up the cast, playing four friends on a kayaking and diving trip in Papua New Guinea that soon goes sideways.
Much like in the original film, the group must face down a great white shark, with this instalment exploring resilience, recovering from trauma and the strength of female friendship.
“I’m thrilled The Reef: Stalked is in production and back to Bowen where we shot parts of The Reef 11 years ago,” writer/director Traucki said in a statement.
“As a lover of survival tales, there is nothing I enjoy more than storytelling that pits humans against nature and asks the question ‘How would I survive?...

Keep calm; ‘Days of Our Lives’ is in fact carrying on. NBC Entertainment chairman Paul Telegdy confirmed at the Television Critics Assn. press tour that the long-running daytime drama will be returning for another season on NBC.
“We’re in the middle of knowing very soon [whether] ‘Days of Our Lives’ is going to carry on,” said Telegdy. “We love it. Millions of Americans watch it every week. … I know this will be good news for the fans. I know that someone [at the network is] going, ‘You can’t say that,” but we are of course carrying on with ‘Days of Our Lives.'”
That follows news in November that the entire cast of the series had been released from their contracts. Not long after that, however, sources told Variety that the series was nearing a deal for a renewal for Season 56.

There will be a few new faces in Mystic Falls when The Vampire Diaries begins its seventh season in just three weeks, as Lily (Annie Wersching) and her Heretic family cause widespread chaos, forcing Stefan, Damon, Caroline, and Bonnie to have to step in to stop them. Two of Lily’s Heretic family members are Mary Louise and Nora (played by Teressa Liane and Scarlett Byrne), a same-sex couple that has been forced to hide their relationship for most of their lives. However, now that the two of them are together in the 21st century, which is obviously more accepting and tolerant than the early 1900s (the last time they were together before being trapped in the prison world), they can finally be out in public and show who they truly are and how much they truly care for one another. The video below features our first look at Mary Louise and Nora together…...

However, while it appears that Caroline and Stefan are trying to prevent the heretics from destroying Mystic Falls,...
