It’s always a good time for a movie marathon, but the holidays feel particularly special because there are so many great films hitting streaming services and SVOD on a regular basis.
Now that the season of gift giving has arrived, you still have a few weeks to score that perfect holiday present for someone you love, even (or especially!) if that someone you love is actually yourself. A lot of us have been spending more time at home over the last year, so why not find ways to spruce up your abode with posters, books, snacks, trivia games, and even organizing tools perfect for the cinephile in your life?

Plus, artists Glen Brogan and Luke Flowers have teamed for a collection called Down Time that imagines what some of your favorite film, TV, […]

Pop culture artist Andrew Degraff is best known for his series of "Cinemap" art. We've posted some of his art before. His art is wonderfully unique in the fact that each piece maps out the stories of the movies that they represent. As you can see, the art maps out the character's journey and all the locations that they hit over the course of their story.
There are three new pieces that were released (via io9) for an art show that's being put on at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, CA starting November 3rd. The first three prints below are the new pieces and under those, I've included a few others that were previously released that you may or may not have already seen.
If you're not familiar with the art the colored lines represent different characters, which is why some of the colors break off into different directions.

I realize that headline makes a bold claim, but I'm confident that Andrew DeGraff's new piece lives up to that praise. The artist, whose work we've featured on the site a few times before, is known for creating extremely intricate, unique pieces that trace the journeys of film characters throughout every location in a movie. His latest painting, a staggering work that will be on display at this weekend's Art Awakens show at Los Angeles' Gallery 1988, follows the path of every Sith Lord and Jedi Knight across every location in every major vehicle in all six live-action films so far. This took over 600 hours to make! That's like if DeGraff had worked on it for 25 days straight, all the way through with no sleep. If you're in the L.A. area, be sure to stop by Gallery 1988 to see it in person this weekend. I'll be there tonight for an opening night party,...

Alexa here with your fix of movie art. Philadelphia illustrator Andrew DeGraff has a way with cartography. He harnesses this skill to create unbelievably detailed movie maps. He draws each location of a film in relation to all the others, and then traces the path of the protagonists, effectively capturing the action of each film from a bird's-eye view. Every map, like one below based on North by Northwest, is done my hand in pencil and guache, and takes hundreds of hours to complete.

The best movie posters transport us into their world. In a single image, they sum up the characters, settings and emotions of a two hour movie. Most posters do this pretty easily, with a crucial image or actor from the movie, but others take the long way. For example, by literally mapping out the entire […]

Watching a movie is a linear experience-- you see a series of images in an order that the director prescribed, and you're on a guided tour of the world in which it takes place. You may wish you could loop back around and poke around The Shire some more after Frodo leaves it at the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring, but that's not how Peter Jackson wants it, buddy. But what if you want to experience the Lord of the Rings less like a movie, and more like the maps that Tolkien provides at the front of the book? Illustrator and mapmaker Andrew DeGraff has you covered. That image above may look like a bizarre treasure map taking you to some weird planets. but it's also the story of a very, very familiar movie. Ok, that first one is pretty easy-- you don't even have to be a Star...

Last week we shared a cool set of movie map illustrations for the Star Wars trilogy. The artist of those, Andrew DeGraff, has also created a set of movie map art for the classic Indiana Jones trilogy. I love how these illustrations give us a different deconstructed look at the trilogy we all know and love. This art style works particularly well for the Indiana Jones films since they deal with archeology. The image above is titled "Paths of Raiders," and the pieces below are "Paths of Doom" and "Paths of Crusade."
These are part of Andrew DeGraff & Bennett Slater’s gallery show, which opened this weekend at Gallery 1988 on Melrose in Los Angeles.

There's been plenty of fan posters that have paid tribute to Star Wars and Indiana Jones with some amazing artwork that could rival even Drew Struzan's stellar work for the films from George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. However, we have yet to see any posters as unique and intricate as these. With a style that's like a maze and Where's Waldo, artist Andrew DeGraff has crafted these incredible posters honoring each film trilogy by creating a film story map. Each poster runs through the various locations that the film's story takes our characters, and it's like following one of the coolest and most detailed mazes ever. The map art created tell the stories of the films A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. These are part of the Andrew DeGraff & Bennett Slater’s gallery show, which opens on Saturday January 5th at Gallery 1988 on Melrose in Los Angeles. DeGraff previously created a similar illustration for The Goonies, which I've also included at the end. These are incredibly inventive, and I hope you like them!
