In the world of the Emmy Awards, straight-to-streaming movies are considered “TV Movies,” which is how Predator sequel Prey was able to score an “Outstanding TV Movie” nomination at this year’s ceremony. Dan Trachtenberg’s one-shot spinoff movie, in fact, was nominated for Six Emmy Awards in total this year, and it’s not the only horror movie to get recognition.
Released last Halloween on Disney+, the decades-later spooky sequel Hocus Pocus 2 is also nominated for “Outstanding Television Movie” at the Emmy Awards this year!
In addition to that nomination, Hocus Pocus 2 has also been nominated in the “Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special” and “Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes” categories, the film scoring three nominations in total.

Disney’s sequel Hocus Pocus 2 was a massive hit for the Disney+ streaming service this past Halloween, setting streaming records and proving that the franchise is now more popular than ever before. As you might have guessed, Hocus Pocus 3 won’t be far behind.
Disney’s Sean Bailey flat out confirms to The New York Times in a new profile piece that just went up over the weekend, “Yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the continuation of the franchise, which kicked off way back in 1993. In an interview with THR last October, Hocus Pocus 2 producer Adam Shankman teased the potential for follow-up projects, which could center on the sequel’s new characters. Hocus Pocus 2 introduced Whitney Peak as Becca, Belissa Escobedo as Izzy, and Lilia Buckingham as Cassie, a new group of sisters who come together to vanquish the Sandersons.

As the latest straight-to-streaming movie for Disney+, Hocus Pocus 2 has no reason for its existence other than to keep people on the platform after their annual viewing of Hocus Pocus (1993). A by-the-numbers rehash powered by commendable enthusiasm from its main cast, it’s just good enough to satisfy fans, but won’t earn the Sanderson Sisters any new admirers.
The original cult film found the coven of Winifred, Sarah, and Mary whisked from 1600s Salem to the modern day, where their desire to feast on children’s souls was thwarted by a couple tykes on Halloween night. Nearly 30 years later, the film resurrects the sisters once again after a duplicitous magic shop owner tricks a few teenagers into lighting a black candle during their Halloween spell-casting.
The film is basically 90 minutes of fish-out-of-water gags — the sisters are vexed by automatic doors, delighted by Roombas and oddly unmoved by cellphone...

At first glance, writer/director Miranda July’s film Kajillionaire may seem like a stark commentary on the times as well as a sardonic look at the familial dynamic in the twenty-first century, but there is a lot more to unpack in the filmmaker’s third theatrical offering. Aided by a stellar performance from Evan Rachel Wood, Kajillionaire manages to create a snapshot of a specific moment in history when things seem as though they may be the worst they have ever been, yet something far more hopeful and stirring waits just around the corner.
Without giving too much away, the film begins with a family of swindlers who are forced to allow an outsider to assist with their next con. Unfortunately, that is precisely when familial life (at least as it exists for this particular family) gets extremely complicated.

In Miranda July’s “Kajillionaire,” Evan Rachel Wood dons a gruff, monotone accent and plays a con artist who from birth has been taught by her parents to steal, swindle and scam, but not much else.
She’s the anchor to July’s latest offbeat, indie gem, which Focus Features picked up out of Sundance this year and morphs into a profound and original comedy and coming of age story.
“Most people want to be kajillionaires. That’s how they get you hooked. Hooked on sugar, hooked on caffeine, ha ha ha! Cry cry cry! Me, I prefer to just skip,” Richard Jenkins says in the first trailer for the film.

Following the critical and financial success of Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man, it seems like a no-brainer to get the innovative filmmaker involved on other projects in the revamped world of Universal Monsters, and it looks like that could be the case with the recently announced Wolfman movie starring Ryan Gosling.
Deadline reports that Whannell "is negotiating" to helm a new Wolfman movie that would star Gosling, presumably in the title role that was famously portrayed by Lon Chaney Jr. in George Waggner's 1941 film and several sequels. According to Deadline, Jason Blum's Blumhouse will produce the new film alongside Gosling.
Deadline reports that Whannell would write the treatment "based on an original idea of his own and inspired by the 1941 classic," while The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the script (written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo) has a "vibe that evokes Network (1976) and Nightcrawler (2014)," with Gosling...

After seeing his work on 2018’s Terminal, this writer jumped at the opportunity to speak with filmmaker Vaughn Stein about his latest project, Inheritance, a dramatic thriller centered around the Monroe dynasty—a wealthy family whose influence in politics and legacy in New York is built upon a foundation of lies. Those lies begin to threaten their very existences after the patriarch of their clan (Patrick Warburton) passes away suddenly, leaving his daughter Lauren (Lily Collins) to clean up the mess before they lose everything they’ve all worked so hard for over the years.
Written by Matthew Kennedy, Inheritance also stars Connie Nielsen, Chace Crawford, and Simon Pegg (who turns in an exemplary performance here unlike anything we’ve ever seen from him before). Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Stein about his involvement with Inheritance and why this project immediately caught his attention. He also...

Oh, the irony! I’ve been covering Hollywood industry awards as a journalist for 30 years and now I’m nominated for the Press Award bestowed by Hollywood’s leading PR guild: Icg Publicists. It’s so gracious of them – thank you, huzzahs to all – but now I’ll get a toxic dose of what I report on all the time: nominee jitters.
Uh-oh: do my Hollywood industry peers really, really like me? Should I campaign aggressively? Rent out billboards on Sunset Boulevard? What should I wear on Feb. 7 when the winner is revealed at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in the same room where the Golden Globes are doled out?
Lucky for me, I know the drill. I’ve been nominated, and lost, twice in the past. Only 16 more defeats and I’ll be the Susan Lucci of the Publicists’ Award! So, please, save me: spread the word across town — Vote for Tom!

For years, Ari Emanuel has been engineering Wme to expand beyond its talent-agency roots into the big leagues of global entertainment, sports, distribution and marketing.
Wme parent Endeavor’s Ipo marks the first time in 40 years that a Hollywood talent agency has opened its books to Wall Street, a move that’s fraught with complications. Case in point: ICM became part of publicly traded Marvin Josephson Associates from its formation in 1975 until it was taken private in a $70 million management buyout in 1988. As ICM insiders from that era can attest, it can be difficult to explain the largesse and uniqueness of the agency business to investors scrutinizing a profit-and-loss statement.
Endeavor is asking potential investors to bet on a risky strategic vision that hasn’t come to fruition yet in the form of bottom-line profits.

Odom Jr. is best known for his performance in the Broadway smash “Hamilton” and was recently seen in Fox’s “Murder on the Orient Express.” Pinto will next be seen in Andy Serkis’ “Jungle Book” adaptation,...

Bright, Netflix's first-ever blockbuster, a buddy cop action movie set in an alternate L.A. where humans and fantasy creatures live side by side, has been called the worst movie of 2017. But director David Ayer doesn't mind. "This is going on my fridge," he tweeted one critic. "Highest compliment is a strong reaction either way. This is a f**king epic review."

Bright was meant to harken back to his former works -- think End of Watch meets Lord of the Rings -- with Will...
