Woman in a Dressing Gown
17 July 2004
The late Inge Meysel is facing tragedy with courage and leaving bitterness to those of smaller heart and narrower vision in this plot-laden kitchen sink soap opera. It is very stage-bound, with fast fading ex-star Sonja Ziemann (shot to fame with legendary Heimatfilmen like 'Schwarzwaldmaedel' and above all, 'Gruen ist die Heide' and second only to Ruth Leuwerik as Germany's most popular female star of the '50's but now on her way out thanks to disastrous flops like 'Menschen I'm Hotel') giving the best performance as an unmarried mother and bringing a touch of class to the drab drama.

Inge Meysel is, well, a real kvetch, a pain in the neck as the mother hen, in this one-to-one adaption of her first stage success.
