The first time I watched this, I thought it was SO weird. I couldn't believe I was actually watching this, but yet I was not able to turn it off. After I returned the film to the video store, I found myself three days later talking about it with my mother and suddenly, THEN I started laughing. I was compelled to rent it again, and view it a second time. Immediately I was hooked. It took me three days to understand John Water's dark humor, but once I got it, I LOVED IT! "HAIRSPRAY" has since become one of my favorite movies. Ricky Lake hit fame with this mainstream hit, proving to the world that "BIG IS BEAUTIFUL."
