Lovitz and Jones Save the Movie.
3 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Jeffery Jones and John Lovitz are goofy in this movie, especially Lovitz. This and The Critic represent the best work that he did outside of SNL, while Jeffery Jones enjoys a rare leading role. Their sword fight is the funniest bit in this movie, although everything that Lovitz does runs close behind. Teri Garr, Eric Idle, and Thalmas Rasulala (cool name) are good as well. Wallace Shawn is wasted in a small role. The score by Jerry Goldsmith may actually be the best part of the movie and it deserved a better movie. I still can't get the main theme out of my head. There is little else to recommend. Even with these high points, the movie is still not very good and the stupidity of the locals on the planet gets tiring, such as when an entire group of soldiers pick up a grenade, that says 'pick me up' even after every one dissappears after picking it up. You will either like or hate this movie.
