This film is not bad at all. But, if you want to really enjoy it, you'll have to keep in mind these two recommendations:
a) FORGET THE COVER. It is not the usual Wes Craven horror film, not even the typical horror film. Don't expect a creepy movie (although there are several creepy scenes, perhaps the worst part of this movie). The horror comes from inside, from the unseen and the unsaid.
b) FORGET THE CLASSIC (the 1962 `Carnival of Souls'). Do not compare this film with the original one, since it's an high percent unfaithful to the 1962 version. The 1998 Carnival is not a real remake. Perhaps it has a similar final idea, but it's not the same story.
Follow this recommendations and take your prejudices off. Perhaps then you'll enjoy this well-acted movie.
