Classic and not-so-classic shorts
27 June 2003
Robert Benchley was the master of the short film, even winning a 1935 Oscar for "How to Sleep". Alas, this and other MGM shorts aren't on this tape, but for Benchley fans--and fans of 20s comedy--they're still a very worthy buy. You get a clutch of Benchley's Paramount videos, including the classic "Treasurer's Report" (the first sound film), plus "The Sex Life of the Polyp". Other shorts on the tape, by Alexander Woollcott and Donald Ogden Stewart are curiousities--interesting, but not exactly knee slappers.
