Final Fantasy VIII (1999 Video Game)
10/10
Should have been a film...

This is the kind of video game that, while playing, you think to yourself - I wish I could skip all this fighting and carry on with the story! That is essentially what Final Fantasy VIII - Worlds Apart - is all about, the story. This is simply the most complex and well-developed story ever told. Not to mention the incredible character development: Squall Leonhart rivals even Harrison Ford's Rick Deckard in Blade Runner. Seifer Almasy is the perfect "arch-nemesis" for Squall and Laguna Loire is the perfect foil. The relationships between the characters are special, there's no other word for it. I shall say this now and get it out of the way - I, for one, greatly prefer Quistis to Rinoa. The interplay between Squall and Quistis is immaculately crafted - they know each other so well and it's brought out in the writing. The end movie is so touching that it actually almost made me cry. Seeing as though they don't actually give the writer's name in the credits I'm going to put my hands together for the producer, Hironobu Sakaguchi, who has put together the greatest story ever told.
