Review of Rave Macbeth

Rave Macbeth (2001)
Unusual, but worth seeing
26 November 2001
Macbeth on a Rave ? Well, that definitely is weird...but it works ! "Rave Macbeth" effortlessly manages to bridge the gap between Shakespeare's medieval Scotland and today's Techno scene, and, while radically disposing of 16th century's language, it not only sticks to the plot as close as possible, it also brings about a part of the original's atmosphere. This special atmosphere is in no way spoilt, but underlined by the psychedelic effects and the fitfully selected House and Trance tracks. It is, in short, the greatness of one of Shakespeare's best Dramas, combined with the emotional density of a Rave. Altogether, the background was in my opinion adapted much better and in a much more creative way than, e.g., in "Romeo and Juliet". Of course, there are little flaws in plot and design, and this may not be the best movie of the year, but it certainly is the most innovative one I have seen so far, and it is definitely worth seeing.
