Review of The Rookie

The Rookie (2002)
7/10
Scores a home run.

A bit cliche in the making, but the casting was superb. Dennis Quaid did a great job of portraying an inspiring real-life hero, Jim Morris. Rachel Griffiths was also excellent as his wife. The contrasting father-son relationships were angst for the movie, but not thoroughly explored, especially Jim with his father. However, there was a certain efficiency in character development in the movie that delineated each character in a few lines in fewer scenes. These were not one dimensional people. I am not a baseball fan, but I seem to like baseball movies. Who can say why. It's no Field of Dreams, but I enjoyed this movie, it's lack of explicit sex and violence especially! Dear Hollywood, please make more like this one.
