Vampire Clan (2002)
5/10
What movie?
24 November 2002
I don't think this is a very popular movie, as I'd never heard anything about it. First of all, I wouldn't call this a movie. I'd call this a dramatization...sort of like if you go out and rent some videos of re-enactments of crime's or train wrecks or something. While the movie gets you into the story a little, it doesn't really have a timeline. You see what's happened, you see where it started, and then you see the details in between. But nobody really ever tells you Why?

The ...dramatization, if you will (since it states "based on actual events," albeit probably loosely...) starts with a girl coming home to find her parent's have been brutally murdered by her sister's new friends. The friends believe they are vampires. Now, I'm not spoiling anything for you as this all happens in the first five minutes, and honestly I think I could share the entire story in this review and I wouldn't spoil a moment.

The story behind the movie...itself is ok. We don't really see enough character development; I want to know more about WHY Rod believes he's a vampire and see THEIR world, an angle we aren't shown. Quite frankly, I think I could do a similar job if I got a few good camera's and a budget and me and my friends set out to make a film like this.

As for the acting...if this had great actors playing perfect parts, I think I could have given it a 7/10..the story and dialogue/screenplay hurt it a lot, but the acting tops the barrel off. While overall the teen's don't do that bad of a job, it's those rare moments that are shocking. You know when you watch outtakes of a movie where the actors crack up halfway into their line? Well, it's as if they kind of kept those cuts IN the final version of the film here...one scene comes to mind...when the father reacts to finding out his daughter skipped class that day. Overall, I just don't feel like I gained anything from this movie...I wish they had put some bizarre, frightening twist on the end..at least I'd do some research and inquire WHY the ending were so wierd, but the ending is as normal and drab as the rest of the film. (props to the opening pre-title though, that was nice.)

Well, it's 3am, sorry if this review was a little incoherant, blame it on my state of mind after watching this...Sorry, I give it a 5/10..hopefully others will find this more entertaining than I did...
