Innsmouth Legacy: A beautiful and haunting love story
4 February 2005
A young woman, far from home, gets the call from her family to return to where she belongs. She must chose between her new family and her true family in this heart-wrenching tale. The story begins with a husband who comes home to find a very frightening "Dear John" letter.

This movie is a short film, made by Edward Martin III. It shows that you don't need a large budget to make an excellent Lovecraftian tale come to life on the screen. The story, based on one first told by H.P. Lovecraft, is beautifully adapted into screenplay format. It quickly draws you in and you feel easily attached to the characters.

Mad Martian, the actor who plays Craig, displays a thousand emotions on his face during his performance in Innsmouth Legacy. Emily Hayes, the actress who plays Katherine, shows quite a bit of promise portraying the woman whose heart is torn. The characters in this story are compelling and believable. The imagery and scenes used for the movie are both ideal and quite stunning at times. There are still new things I am picking up and I have seen it multiple times.

If you like H.P. Lovecraft this movie is not only a must see, but a must buy. The movie is on the "Cosmic Horror Fun-Pak", a collection of shorts done by Guerilla Productions. It is jam packed with special features.

Innsmouth legacy includes subtitles in: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Polish. There is a Behind the Scenes slideshow, which you can watch with or without commentary. There is information about the movie and the H.P. Lovecraft festival. Not to mention the fact that they include "Alternite Endings". That is a ton of special features for a short movie. It makes it great for multiple viewings. I have seen it over a dozen times myself now.

The "Cosmic Horror Fun-Pak" has many other short films. They are all quite good. I recommend this collection of shorts to anyone who enjoys Lovecraft, horror or the unusual.
