Miracle (2004)

The team that learned to win.

Warning: Spoilers
A very uplifting and rousing telling of what many still consider a miracle in the sports world. Minnesota hockey coach Herb Brooks(Kurt Russell)assembles in his own way a once-in-a-lifetime team of individual hockey stars and melds them into an underdog U.S. Olympic team that shocks the world by beating an over-powering Russian squad in the 1980 Olympic Games.

Some very good hockey play provided by actual players turned temporary movie stars. Eddie Cahill is the only professional actor on the ice playing goalie Jim Craig. Patrick O'Brien Demsey, Michael Mantenuto, Kenneth Mitchell and Joseph Cure put in very good work as young hockey players that may have been a little intimidated in playing against the "pro" team from Russia. Noah Emmerich plays the long time suffering and reliant assistant coach Craig Patrick. Patricia Clarkson plays the understanding wife of the often aloof Coach Brooks. And what about Kurt Russell? He is perfect as Herb Brooks. But not as dynamic as his 1979 tremendous portrayal of Elvis Presley.

Hockey fan or not...the hockey scenes will get your blood pumping and your heart filled with pride.
