Review of Daniel

This movie was touching and undeniably realistic, even though it wasn't completely based on a true story. It was inspired yes, but the characters were highly fictionalized...Maybe it was Lumet's way of playing it safe since the issue he dealt with was extremely controversial

One thing that was caught me off guard was Susan's (as a child) calmness when she realizes that her parents have been killed, even though that later turns out to be false. Her indifference was brutal and it made lasting effect on me.

I still wonder why both the kids don't run to their parents in the prison when they see them after a year.. are they disappointed that their parents' priorities lie with something bigger than them?

I think the greatest thing about this movie is the kid who played Daniel...it was amazing how he dealt with his sister upon realizing that he had to be everything for her... He was pushed into the responsibilities he was too young to carry out, and he did it beautifully

The director does a beautiful job in representing a relationship between parents and their children living in a world that is demanding, irrational, and unpredictable.
