you can say that the film Alexandria...New york is a film about memories after the film ended, i remembered Youssef Chahine's movies, especially his auto-bio films (Alexandria why - an Egyptian story - Alexandria again and forever)... I remembered what these movies held in truth, truth of self-being..and its rare to see the truth with someone's reality Alexandria...New YOrk shows the relationship of Youssef Chahine with America, were he learned his craft there, and lived one of the greatest love stories i've seen, and thats the basis the film was built on. The film starts where Yehia (youssef chahine played by Mahmoud Hemeda) visits new york because of a festival playing his movies there. And in the audience is Ginger, the woman that he loved when he first came to America when he was 17 years old. And she tells him then, after not seeing him for 25 years, that she gave birth to a son of his own. On the other hand, the son refuses to accept on having an Arabic father, and thats the conflict in the story. The film portrays the love story between the director and his colleague Ginger that lasted for over 50 years. In this movie you see a great romantic story that hasn't been seen in years through Yehia (ahmed yehia) and Ginger (yousra el lozy) in the scene of the departure, as Yehia returns to New York and then heads to his home Egypt. Youssef Chahine was able to create that scene and what meanings of tenderness, pain, beauty that is undescribable..Although there were different type of scenes like Yehia performing Hamlet on stage and dancing in the play Carmen. Greatness in acting is a degree Yousra held always, and in that film, she falls in the trap of portraying Ginger in 2 periods of her life and without a doubt succeeds.. Ahmed yehia, wait for him in great roles in the Egyptian cinema, and yousra el lozy has a great presence on the screen that steals the camera to herself, she is the next "soad hosny" That film confirms to us that Youssef Chahine is not 78 years old, but 28. He is full of youth in his heart and still is able to perfect his work
