Screen One: The Bullion Boys (1993)
Season 5, Episode 8
8/10
A thoroughly entertaining film-recommended.

This is a well researched film set in the summer of 1940 when, faced by the threat of an imminent German invasion, the British government orders gold bullion to be removed to Canada for safe keeping via the port of Liverpool.

What a first glance might appear an unpromising plot is however handled with much dry humour and with great attention to period detail, by an excellent cast of British actors all of whom contribute to an entertaining movie with a twist in the story at the end. Particular mention should be made of David Jason as Billy Mac the foreman, as well as Brenda Bethyn and Geoffrey Hutchins who feature in an entertaining sub plot.
