16 Blocks (2006)
7/10
Despite having seen this all before, this is a solid popcorn flick with just entertainment on its mind
7 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The basic plot has loser cop Bruce Willis trying to get Grand Jury witness Mos Def the 16 blocks from the lock up to the court house. Of course complications arise as hit men try to kill the witness, and the situation is revealed to be tied police corruption. The question is can cop Willis make it the 16 blocks in time? There is little that one can say critically about this movie. You either buy the premise or you don't. This is a movie that just jumps into action with a minimum of set up. We know the characters since they are more types than people, so we don't need to know much to get the ball rolling. If you can take the film as little more than a fast paced popcorn film, you're golden. If you want more than stereotypes then look elsewhere since this film will disappoint, because you'll have seen it all before (though to the movies credit the outcome is not always certain, which is nice.) Recommended to those who want 100 minutes of mindless escapist entertainment.
