Oranges and Lemons is funny Stan Laurel short
11 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Oranges and Lemons is a solo Stan Laurel short before his fateful teaming with Oliver Hardy. It begins as he is outside riding a bike-like machine that lifts some oranges up a conveyor belt and and drops them in a bucket that another man is carrying except the oranges keep missing the bucket! Stan switches places with the bucket man only now the oranges keep hitting Stan's head! This results in a orange free throw between Stan, the bucket man, and their boss who walks right in. After this is over, Stan encounters a heavyset man who tries to get an orange he can't reach. Stan gets a ladder that breaks on impact with the other man and gets that man's head stuck between steps! There's also some gags involving an elevator lift, switching hats (a familiar L and H gag), and more throwing of things. There are traces of the familiar Stan character although he can be a bit frantic here. Nevertheless, the short is funny from beginning to end and is well worth seeing for Laurel and Hardy fans.
