Serial Mom (1994)
1/10
"The only serial I know anything about is Rice Krispies." Total crap.

Warning: Spoilers
Serial Mom starts like any other day in the Sutphin house, Beverly (Kathleen Turner) cooks breakfast while her husband Eugene (Sam Waterston) get ready to go to work while their children Chip (Matthew Lillard) & Misty (Ricki Lake) prepare to go to school. All seems well but behind Beverly's average suburban housewife appearance is a twisted sick individual who has strange ideals & will murder to enforce them...

Written & directed by John Waters I pretty much hated every second of Serial Mom, now I know that me saying this is going to be unpopular but I don't really give a damn about reputations & I just just tell it like it is. The script is supposed to be a black comedy, it's supposed to be satire, it's supposed to be clever, it's supposed to be silly & it's meant to have a message about stereotypes & the way the press make stars out of criminals but I thought it was terrible & not one single aspect of it worked as far as I was concerned. For a start I was bored out of my skull watching it, I thought it was very dumb & there were plot holes galore. I hated all the character's in it, I hated the story, none of the comedy was funny or even remotely amusing to me & I really did detest it, I couldn't wait for the end credits to roll frankly. A lot of people seem to like it & I will gladly accept that maybe I'm in the minority because I don't but that still doesn't change the basic fact that I hated every second of Serial Mom & it's as simple & straight forward as that.

Director Waters has made something with all the charm & style of a made-for-TV soap opera, it's completely bland & forgettable. There's no scares, there's no excitement, there's virtually no gore so why does this exist exactly?

I was amazed to see that according to the IMDb Serial Mom had a budget of about $13,000,000, wow where the hell did all the money go? There's no 'name' actors in it, there's no special effects, there's no action scenes & it's set almost entirely within a couple of houses. I thought the acting was poor & Turner annoyed the hell out of me whenever she was on screen.

Serial Mom is a boring piece of crap that didn't do a thing for me & missed all it's targets by the proverbial mile, people seem to like it so perhaps it is worth watching but from my own personal point of view I'd rather have my fingernails pulled out that watch this again.
