Andaz (1971)
8/10
An enjoyable movie !
27 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Though full of some unnecessary situations, turns, twists, and accusations, rapes, deaths and what not, stuffed by the script writers, to add some spicy tales to the main plot line, i have still given 8 out of 10 to this movie ! Ask me why, and i would tell you to enjoy this movie, for it's vibrant music, a romantic lead pair, with a youthful, handsome Shammi, and beautiful Hema, who really fit into the cast of having lost their love once, but looking out for another role. Rajesh in his cameo as Hema's first love, and short span husband, destined to die accidentally, is stylish as usual, and enacts a carefree, devil may care attitude perfectly. However, Shammi has proved, that he is not only a lover boy, but a very capable and sensitive actor. The kids are great, too. Their song, Papako mummy se, pyar hain, is really heart warming . if only the director would have avoided the temptation to add all that unrealistic, melodramatic stuff, to this otherwise poignant tale of two lonely hearts brought together by destiny, it would have been a real Hollywood type of a movie, comparable to, Sleepless in Seatle , with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, with that cute son of Tom. This is where the Hindi film producers make a mistake of churning out a typical masala movie, with their own insecurity complex, that audience may turn it's back to a purely family drama ! though they have traveled some distance to progress, with such films as kuch Kuch Hota Hain, the additional melodrama is still a permanent feature. Those interested in watching good, clean entertainment, should also see the other ones like, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, with Amir Khan, Juhi, and some talented child artistes.
