An Open Letter to JOEL SURNOW
15 May 2007
Dear Mr. Surnow:

I want to say hearty "thank you" for your hard work on "24" and other great television programs. It is nice to have shows that are not beholden to liberal dogma and are also on the cutting edge of entertainment. It's simply the best action show I have ever seen.

However, I have seen your new show "The 1/2 Hour News Hour" and I was disappointed in the product, and yet it has great potential to excel as all your other shows have. I beg you to consider my suggestions to the show:

1) The writing you oversee on the show is at times just plain crude. I cannot let my wife, children or myself watch this show because I don't want to be exposed to that sort of thing. Conservatives want clean fun. Not the gutter.

2) Crudeness is NOT FUNNY. Saturday Night Live (SNL) has been at its funniest when they engage in sharp satire, not in sick inappropriate humor. It takes little ingenuity for a filthy mouth to spew filth, but with a little effort and thought you can produce something truly funny. The SNL Harriet Myers skit a couple of years ago comes to mind, also the entire SNL William Shatner episode was also totally hilarious - yet clean. I no longer watch SNL today because it is just too crude and inappropriate.

3) Conservatives do not need to lower themselves to the liberals standards of decency, which is the very bottom of the barrel. "Conserving" the moral fabric of America is part of what we believe. Lets not mimic liberals modus operandi. After all those who like that kind of humor will still laugh at clean jokes if its sharp humor.

4) Having a CLEAN, conservative, satirical news show is something that would draw many people to watch - we conservatives want a SNL that's clean and willing to make fun of liberal icons. Remember your target audience.

Thank you for your consideration.

Feel free to e-mail me if you desire.
